A great many thanks to a AWESOME TKC TIPSTER who sent news of the further decline of Hyde Park my way.
I don't know if it's too small time for the paper or record but I think it's neat that the people in Old Hyde Park have taken their bickering to the Internets. The personal tone and indignation of this Internet "press release" is kind funny and stupid all at the same time. Check it:
In violation of Old Hyde Park Historic District's by-laws and Roberts Rules of Order, the board of Old Hyde Park removed John Gladeau as president without cause and without a vote of the general membership falsely alleging he had verbally resigned mid-term. John tried to present contrary evidence of this allegation, but was not allowed to do so by the self- imposed new president Martin Phillips, and Board members Lydia Carson, and Diana Herrera. In early September, John asked the board to participate in mediation with a City mediator to work out whatever issues they apparently had with his leadership, but they were unwilling to do so.Once again, I hear that this is a fight over gentrification . . . It's funny how nobody can tear a neighborhood apart like developers. Here's a quote from the other side that a well-trusted TKC source has offered about the situation:
John is a founding member of Old Hyde Park Historic District, Inc. In 1994 he spearheaded the effort to place the neighborhood on the Local Register of Historic Places and in 2004 he worked along side former board member Troy Koehne to place Old Hyde Park on the National Register of Historic Places.
"The former president, John Gladeau has been more self-serving than effective for the last several years and the rest of the board has tried to remove him. Now they are all fighting and destroying the reputation the Old Hyde Park used to have as a strong neighborhood."I don't live in Hyde Park but I've long contended that that place has more than its share of problems that are glossed over in big media profiles. To wit, there's even a silly Youtube video taking aim at Gladeau as this fight unfolds on the Internets far more quickly than big media can report.
On newscasts everywhere reporters are looking for local signs of the current Depression, I'm thinking that crime, class wars and this nasty neighborhood squabble in Old Hyde Park are a good example.

ReplyDeleteIt is a tough neighborhood and there have always been tough fights with each other and with Broadway Gilham a fake neighborhood group that claimed the same territory.
If a new group wrestled control away from John then they are simply tougher and smarter than he was and that means they are mean and clever enough to be good leaders in representing this area of Kansas City.
Gladeau is pulling his typical crybaby tactics. Somebody should tell that guy to move over gracefully.

I've moved back to Texas now but I used to go to an MCC church next to John Gladeua's house. He had the nicest father, Frank, but John never did a bit of work to take care of him. John never had a job the whole time I knew him but left paying the bills and making money to his partner.
ReplyDeleteYes, John did spend a lot of time running around the neighborhood like he owned the place. But seems to me he was mostly enjoying being the bigwig and not really caring much about no one else. And as remember, he did a lot of that running with Lydia Carson right beside him.
Last I knew David Scott lived in Hyde Park (east of Gillham) on Jannsen Place, rather than Old Hyde Park (Gillham to Broadway area). As far as your description of the man himself, yeah, I agree.

ReplyDeleteAs the person being targeted in online attacks by Howard and Lydia Carson, I would like to clarify a few things. When Lydia would lose her temper and scream at public official in meetings or in front of other groups like the Broadway Westport Council, I would try my best to repair the damage done. I also told her repeatedly as a board member her actions reflect poorly on the neighborhood. Unfortunately, being president I sometimes ended up with some of the blame for the damage caused by her behavior. Our neighborhood relationship came to be strained in recent years because the Carsons became members of a homophobic, radical, right winged church. Several of the current OHP members who hold control are also politically and/or religiously far right including the self-imposed new president.
ReplyDeleteAs far as what the poster from Texas said about my not taking care of my father. That is not only hurtful but untrue. Dad had Alzheimer's disease and I was his primary caretaker for almost a decade. I loved him with all my heart. As a child growing up on an Indian reservation, he did whatever he had to do to make sure the family had a roof over our heads and food on the table. No matter how menial the work. He did janitorial, raked yards and shoveled snow for a living. We lived in a shack made of railroad ties,tar paper, and stucco. Every winter he would bank the house with dirt to help insulate it from the cold. My partner and I never neglected him. We assured him we would never put him in a nursing home. He had a great fear of this because his own mother wasted away in one. In 2003, Dad succumbed to the effects of the disease and died peacefully in our home in his own bed. This is what he wanted.
My service to the neighborhood wasn't as a so-called "well trusted TKC source" said, "self serving." Over the years, I only did the best job I could to prevent Old Hyde Park from being overrun by crime, slumlords and encroaching types of development. I also worked hard to include all the neighborhood's diversity, such as renters,absentee property owners, and businesses. Coming from a poor family, I also believe it to be important to include residents from all socio-economic backgrounds. I'm not squabbling with those who chose to unseat me. There's no real power to be had in neighborhood association work. It's not like holding a political office. All you hope to get is the knowledge that maybe you did a good job and had a lasting positive impact while in service to your community. At least that's the way I always thought of it.

All of OHP's major accomplishments and battles won over a period of 13 years happened under my leadership. So that pretty much nixes your "not really good for anything" comment. and as far as pushing me down the stairs...well, have you ever noticed how a Slinky never quite makes it to the bottom step and you have to go down and restart it? You won't be smiling when you tangle your legs up in the coils and you fall and break your ignorant neck. I admit I have always been a fighter and I never let anyone trample on me.

I have never yelled at or bullied anyone in my community work. You're confusing me with the antics of Lydia. I am well-known for being soft spoken and articulate when I have appeared before City officials and committees. Name one Kansas City Public Official or City Department Head who can back up what you say.
I did attempt to speak at the last OHP meeting to clarify the matter with my board position but the rogue new President ran the meeting like a Nazi. He screamed and resorted to even pushing me with Lydia backing his actions.
You insinuate I am thought of badly by other neighborhood leaders.. give some names. Who are these persons who you allege think poorly of me? Provide some proof. I'm sure they won't mind being mentioned if they truly existed. The Truth: I get along quite well with the presidents of Hyde Park, Valentine, Southmoreland and other surrounding neighborhoods.
As far as committees are concerned, I have been asked and have served on various committees outside the neighborhood over the years including The Landmark's Commission(appointed by Mayor Cleaver,)Neighborhood's Annual Night Out Against Crime,(The Urban League)Hands Across the River(Councilperson Deb Herman was on it as well)and a host of others.
Come on...
Back up your assertions with something tangible rather than spouting pure garbage.

Job...My partner and I have done remodeling projects for years. I don't do the physical part anymore and the reason is really none of your business. Two big gorillas came into my yard and each picked up an end of an eight foot sign and carried it to a waiting truck and placed it in the truck and then sneaked back into my yard and got another one until they had taken all of them and then pushed the truck down the street so that we would not hear it start up and they got away with all of the $7000.00 worth of signs. I am not responsible.

One resides way up north and the other in an apartment in Valentine. You both said enough to reveal yourselves.
ReplyDeleteThe signs Howard is referring to are 7 foot tall aluminum street signs bearing the name Old Hyde Park Historic District. They were supposed to be placed along neighborhood streets years ago. Howard and his buddy Drew Herrara, Old Hyde Park's 2nd Vice President Lydia Carson's employee were on the committee to work on their installation. Of course, all they ever presented were excuses and the project was never completed. I repeatedly expressed to the board the danger those markers were in since they were openly stored outside in the back yard because we had no other place to put them. One could clearly see them from the parking lot over the 3ft gate. No one else on the Old Hyde Park board wanted to clutter their property with them so they continued to sit. We were not home when they were stolen. We were out of town for several days due to a family tragedy. I don't think the markers would fit in the back of my two door Cougar. Our utility vehicle is loaded to the top so they could not fit in it either. We don't own any other vehicles. All indications are they were taken from the parking lot side of our house.
Aluminum and other metals are being sought out by thieves with such aggression in Kansas City and other places, they are even stealing wire from utility poles. We had two large ladders taken the previous month. Also, contrary to what Howard says, they are not worth 7000.00. Sold for scrap they would bring at most maybe 300.00 to 400.00 for the entire lot of six.
Big money there, huh?
I cooperated fully with the detectives on the case. The scrap yards have been notified to be on the lookout for them. I really do hope they turn up so Martin Phillips and Howard Carson can install them where the sun doesn't shine. I know the nice detectives will appreciate not having Phillips and Carson constantly harrassing them. I'll even donate a can of Crisco to get the installation job completed. One other correction: They weren't "paid for by the City" as Howard asserts, they were acquired with a privately funded grant.
If they were stolen from your yard, why don't you make an insurance claim to at least recover the expense for the neighborhood? Or do you care more about yourself than the neighborhood? That's been apparent from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI do live in Old Hyde Park and my tired of all of the mud slinging. I just have one question: Does the board have a written and signed letter of resignation from John? I have been involved with numerous non-profit organizations that always required a resignation to be in writing for the sole purpose of avoiding this kind of mess. My concerns are for the well being of the area and the residents, not the board members and their petty fights.

ReplyDeleteAfter spending literally thousands of dollars on food and beverages for events,community building parties, post office box rent, phone bills when OHP had it's own number,flyers and mailings for dozens and dozens of meetings over many years, and a host of other things, most of the expenses I still have my receipts for, I don't owe this neighborhood a single penny! Furthermore, I didn't often ask for reimbursement because I didn't want to put a strain on the Association's finances. A couple thousand dollars in membership dues doesn't go very far in a year's time.
If I cared more about myself than the neighborhood as was insinuated, I would have asked for those reimbursements.

Because you don't even have the guts to identify yourselves publically when you post your lies and accusations says a great deal about the content of your character to anyone who reads this blog. I'm sure all this public internet "bickering" as Tony calls it, is good for Old Hyde Park and will contribute to it's stability and the wonderful reputation as a diversity embracing, close-knit community. I'm sure people will choose to buy in by the droves after reading how we treat each other in this neighborhood. Of course, I say this facitiously. It's actually very, very sad.
When Old Hyde Park Historic District,Inc. falls apart, remember Howard and Lydia Carson who started all of this stupidity with their slanderous Youtube videos and community webshot postings back in the spring of this year. Calling the president of the neighborhood a "Sodomite" in 6 languages including English was not a great idea for a neighborhood with a large gay, lesbian and transgendered population. Including in that video, radical, right winged Christian music with Howard swinging his arms wildly around, was not a great idea for a neighborhood with many belief systems, including atheism. Constantly attacking the president of the board with unfounded lies and slander undermined the foundation of Old Hyde Park. Most of those vids and pics were removed for terms of use violations.
Remember board members Diana Kennedy-Herrera, Drew Herrera, Martin Phillips, Paul Hensley and the others who sat back and did nothing to prevent things from escalating. They let the Carsons do whatever they wanted, forced me out with no valid written resignation and here we are, plastered all over the internet for the world to see.
Is this how the "New President" of the board and his members intend to do business? If it is, then by all means buy the houses of the citizens who bought into this area for its beauty, established neighborhoods, and neighbors that cared about each other and the area. I ran across this site when someone told me that hey your area is on the web complaining about the bickering that is going on between the members of your historical association members. It makes a person just so "proud" to be associated with a bunch of adults that act like spoiled little teenagers that want their person in office because he/she is cooler then the person now in office. I would rather either start my own associtation or join another group in the area that can conduct themselves in a respectable adult manner by doing things by the book instead of by the way the want to.

ReplyDeleteWhat it takes in most neighborhoods is a person who will try to get people together. Usually that is a woman who will work with everyone.
Some neighborhoods have special problems which might take a little bit of experience at being on time and listening at a meeting. It is a learn as you go occupation.
I met Marty at a meeting or two and I think he is very well qualified.
I live on Marty's block. That guys a tyrant. He pisses off everyone with his busybody attitude. I won't join that group as long as he and that Carson woman is on the board. The meeting I went to I thought John had a easy going style with people. There was developer there once and Marty tore into him but John tried to keep the peace. He got a lot of concessions out of the developer while Marty demanded the world.check out those Storage Units at 34 and Central. turned out nice.

He installed and replaced the banners for Hyde Park for years and told me last week while he was working on the Plaza Marty was a complete jerk to him. wanted him to trim trees and put up a banner on his block for free! ReplyDeleteWhy do say that the last two comments must be from John or Troy? Is it because they told the truth about Marty. I have talked to several people in the area, and they feel that as long as Marty is Lydia's puppet that the whole area will go done the toilet. On an earlier comment I read that Marty had bigger cahonnes then John did, well that comment sounded like something the Carsons would have said. The only way Howard would know anything about cahonnes, is if Lydia told him he had them. I suggest that the people living in this area demand that the whole "new board" be thrown out and that the association start over with all new people.

Let's face it, Marty is just another one of Lydia's errand boys. I wonder why? I noticed on the website they have the last newletter still listing John as president. Pretty strange to me.

And if it wasn't for JOHN and MITCH your little neighborhood would be taken over by the drug dealers and crack heads... Overland Park is where I moved here from two years ago. I love living in the city but I hate all this stuff going on right in my own area. ReplyDeleteFor your information, Southern Girl is not John Gladeau. It is actually someone who used to live in this area that moved to another state a couple years ago. Howard doesn't know everything like he thinks he does. Most people who know Howard and Lydia realize that they are nothing but hot air and liars. I believe that the board should be removed and fliers sent out to everyone that resided in the area and allow them to elect a new board. But then, what would Lydia do when her puppet boy is removed from office? Someone else mentioned that Lydia is being sued by former clients, well it is true because all you have to do is type in her name on Missouricasenet.com to see the listing of all of the cases against her and the ones where she is suing someone else. I know people that work in the legal field and they have told me that Lydia likes to throw her weight around and treat the clerks in the different departments like they are dirt under feet. Some of the current board members in charge should not cast stones at others until he takes a good look at his own. Some of those now in charge and their families are in great need of AAA and a good rehab center todry out. Mouths do alot of flapping when certain people drink, and some drink all of the time. Don't stand to close at the meetings because some try to hide it with gum. Guess what? Everyone knows, because the gum hides nothing.

The biggest laugh of one particular evening was when a bottle of whiskey rolled out of ol' Howie's glove compartment. Then Lydia almost got herself arrested for screaming at the cops. Mitch had to practically knock her in the head to shut her up. That was enough for us. John and Mitch, you guys need to get out of there like we did. You've put in your time. What causes HIV?

Most people get the virus by having unprotected sex with someone who has HIV.
Another common way of getting the virus is by sharing drug needles with someone who is infected with HIV.
The virus can also be passed from a mother to her baby during pregnancy, birth, or breast-feeding.
HIV doesn't survive well outside the body. So it cannot be spread by casual contact such as kissing or sharing drinking glasses with an infected person.
What are the symptoms?
HIV may not cause symptoms early on. People who do have symptoms may mistake them for the flu or mono. Common early symptoms include:
Fever.
Sore throat.
Headache.
Muscle aches and joint pain.
Swollen glands (swollen lymph nodes).
Skin rash.
Symptoms may appear from a few days to several weeks after a person is first infected. The early symptoms usually go away within 2 to 3 weeks.
After the early symptoms go away, an infected person may not have symptoms again for many years. But during this time, the virus continues to grow in the body and attack the immune system. After a certain point, symptoms reappear and then remain. These symptoms usually include:
Swollen lymph nodes.
Extreme tiredness.
Weight loss.
Fever.
Night sweats.
A doctor may suspect HIV if these symptoms last and no other cause can be found.

1. They have no license for there trade of work.
2. They don't file tax returns with the city or state, ever.
3. They both have expired license plates on their commercial vehicles for the past 2 years.

I was told this by a friend who I am close to:
ReplyDeletea couple of years ago John Gladeau signed a contract to lease a building and pay the property taxes from Lydia so he can open a restaurant at 2601 Holmes.
The verbal agreement was for him to buy the building after he sold the 2 houses he owned. He sold the houses and never fulfilled his promise(no surprise).
After Troy Koehne was fired. John Gladeau stopped paying his rent and insurance. Lydia went over to talk to John and Mitch, asking she is taking the building back and John finally agreed and says she could come over to pick up the key the next day.
She went over to pick the key up at their house and no one was home. Later that day she gets a fax from John Gladeau's attorney.
In the end John Gladeau was in the wrong. He forgot he signed a contract. His attorney chickened out. John wouldn't come out of his house to be served (coward).
Then at a board meeting he told her he was giving the building back to her. He still owes her $14,000.00 and thats not including the destruction from what Mitch Kreigler did inside of the building.
John Gladeau says he was bilked.
I really think there is a mental problem going on with John Gladeau besides him contracting HIV.
Wow....I want to be John Gladeau's friend so I can get screwed. No, not that way. LOL.

Here is what I know: There was no legitimate "rental agreement" John made mortgage payments DIRECTLY to the bank and also made all the insurance payments. Why would someone pay rent AND a mortgage payment on the same property?
She came crawling to John last December and asked to be let out of the purchase agreement and
He gave the building back to her just to keep peace and because he felt sorry for her dire situation. She failed to reveal she had another buyer lined up who would pay her more and she wanted all the profits all for herself. She didn't want to reimburse even a portion of what John had put into the purchase. Why? Because she is in extremely deep financial hock. Including a mortgage on another property that is quite illegal. Once he discovered she lied and manipulated to make him feel sorry for her, he decided to use an attorney to get her to stick to their original agreement. In the interest of keeping peace he decided it wasn't worth fighting with her over and gave the building back to her. The building was a dump to begin with so there was no so-called damage.
Then the market collapsed and the Carson's got stuck with not one but three empty buildings and three vacant lots they had hoped to make millions on. There's more, but you'll have to ask John personally about it. His number is still listed on the website. Really, it's nobody's business but Howie makes everything everyone's business. That's why that neighborhood association will eventually fall. No one wants to be involved with people who can't keep personal things personal.
I'm sure Howie will rave on and on spewing more lies. The hiv thing is getting old and no one cares so he had to try this next.

I have heard so many stories from people who work in the legal community about her and her slimmy and bitchy ways that I would not recommend her to represent a pile of crap!!! I have seen her blow up at so many meetings with different city officals and people that have been trying to help with issuses in the Old Park Community that it isn't funny. She just needs to take Howie and crawl back under the rock that they both came out of. As far as the neighborhood association goes, it has already started going down the tubes. Who wants to attend meetings that are ran by Lydia's puppet boy because she knew noone in their right mind would ever nominate much less elect her to be the president. I still believe that this whole thing (blog) was started by Howie because he has nothing better to do with his life. A real man would get a real job instead of working as an errand boy for his wife. The Carsons just need to get a life and leave others alone before someone else brings another law suit against them for the stupidity.

He started online attacks against Troy,John,Mitch, Scott Cuba the contractor the Carsons ripped off last spring, and even his own niece. He stayed up all night concocting several new videos under "Johnjaybird". He spent hours posting them all over the net. Except for this blog, none of the people mentioned above have attacked the Carsons online the way Howard has done. If Howard had the sense to stop his online terrorism, peace would return to the community. But, he won't. because he is so completely filled with hate. He cannot help himself. I just got an email today with an attachment showing John Gladeau and Scott Cuba did signed a contract with Lydia.
