A recent push by a power broker to make Mayor Funky a superdelegate is driving the Democrats in Kansas City nuts!!!
After a year in office, the vast majority of Kansas City Democrats still haven't warmed up to Mayor Funkhouser.
Even worse, one of the main Democrat contributors in this town WHO ACTUALLY SUPPORTS MAYOR FUNKY is pushing for the guy to become a Superdelegate.
Naive or ignorant folks in Kansas City would like to think local politics is about principle or public service . . . Sadly, that's just not that case, it's about cash and MR. PEANUT RUNS KANSAS CITY POLITICS WITH HIS BIG ASS BANKROLL.
What Mr. Peanut wants, he gets . . . Mr. Peanut didn't like Clay Chastain's light rail plan and it was quickly off the ballot. Mr. Peanut and his deep pockets control the purse strings not only for the Funky Bunch but also for a great many Democrat politicos in Kansas City.
And unfortunately Mr. Peanut believes that a bigger role for Kansas City's Mayor in national politics would be a good idea.
This is a tense situation because local Dems don't want to piss off their most powerful patron but they also have some major problems with Kansas City being represented by a guy with absolutely NO CLOUT IN THE DEMOCRAT PARTY.
There are a litany of reasons why local Dems don't like Mayor Funky, here are just a few:
And for those of us keeping track Mayor Funky's stance on the secretive push to become a Superdelegate on behalf of his
Obama is now in the lead and looks to have the nomination in his grasp yet Mayor Funky has refused to offer an endorsement despite Kansas City's overwhelming support of the guy.
Once again Mayor Funkhouser has proven that he's out of touch with his constituents.
The rumblings in the local Democrat party are far too significant to let their benefactor have his way. Put simply, once again Mayor Funky can't form a consensus even among people who are supposedly in his own party!!!
Hopefully, Mr. Peanut will take his gigantic bankroll and find and another pony to back because Mayor Funky has alienated far too many local Democrats to get the nod and his failure to win the role as a superdelegate (which should have a slam dunk) is simply the latest sign that Kansas City's Mayor is essentially powerless and has squandered every bit of his minuscule political capital.
Nice car, can I get a ride? Or some money?
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading The Star.
ReplyDeleteLink please? I believe you, I just haven't seen it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't read The Star's version of the super delegate story but Tony is always more entertaining than their columnists. Who wrote the Star's column on the subject?
ReplyDeleteI'll do it, I'm for Obama because I'm Black as shit.
ReplyDeleteYAY More Funky Bashing!!
ReplyDeleteTo put it simple, Mark shouldn't be a superdelegate because he's not even a Democrat. His action on issues that matter have been far more Republican than Democratic. Plus, he doesn't even vote and he has done zero for the party locally and nationally. I can name 100 more people better qualified for the position.
ReplyDeleteRest assured T, the Funk will NOT be a Dem super delegate. He MAY be a regular pledged delegate, but that it it.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason why the Northland voted for this clown is becuase the people up here are smart enough to not want another 4 years of a Pat Gray/Mike Burke/Steve Glorioso puppet controlling the city purses. The rest of the city is dumb as a Spears sister.
ReplyDeleteSo this isn't so, Jimbo. Are you going to follow Yael T Abouhalkah down the tubes with Mayor Funkenstein?
ReplyDeleteFunk is NOT a Democrat. He isn't the least bit progressive.
ReplyDeleteThis wouldn't have happened if the black guy had been elected.
ReplyDeletetony read th budget your pal wayne wants to cut jobs. funk has said he would like to cut midmanagement not the poor working stiff and besides whats with ed wolf you can saying about his 250,000 dollars but you dont mention waynes total package. i think funk ought to give wayne a 20 percent pay cut and see how he likes it
ReplyDeleteDidn't Ed Wolf retire early from 36 years as the head of Public Works? So he's getting pension money on top of the compensation the co-mayors are paying him? So much for the 5 year rule, him being so exceptional. Frankly I think as the head of Public Works he should be banned from City Hall until that the mess he made is cleaned up.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't Ed Wolf be more responsible for the accumulated mess that is the Public Works Dept. than someone who has been with Kansas City for less than 5 years?
What kind of salary was Ed sucking down for 36 years? Can we get any of that money back?
The mayor has been showing up at Democratic party events for the first time in his life. I cannot stand this kind of liar.
ReplyDeleteThe Star, if it was a real newspaper would focus in on all of the evidence that Funkhouser is nothing more than a bought and paid for shill for Nutter. But no one at The Star has ever shown an ounce of journalistic courage.
Amen true blue! I've been attending every Democratic event in this town for more than 30 years and I can assure you that Mark Funkhouser has never attended one until now.
ReplyDeleteaye
ReplyDeletethis city is so fucked up anyway
why does anyone care what funky
does.
we can all just move north of the river or to kansas
Wow Tony you really do have too much time on your hands. Who the hell cares?
ReplyDeleteGood reporting T. I wouldn't have known about much of this stuff without this blog and the comments.
ReplyDeleteJust another rumor from the king of rumors!
ReplyDeleteTKC: King of Rumors.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that's actually kind of cool.
Great work TKC. Funk Sucks.
ReplyDeleteyou can harping about wolfs pension what about waynes first job as a city manager getting paid the same as wolfs salary. not bad kay thanks for putting an arrogant and dislikable city manager.
ReplyDeleteWolfe is overpaid and double dipping as a political favor. Funkhouser lies once again.
