The Kansas City Library is suing the County . . . They have a lot of good reasons but it all basically boils down to money they need in a bad way.
Here's just a snippet from an extensive press release put forth the KC Library.
The Kansas City Public Library will enter into a lawsuit against Jackson County to petition for property tax funds that were withheld due to the current commercial property tax protest that is massive in both numbers and dollars. The Library’s lawsuit is initiated with the knowledge and cooperation of Jackson County and the Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders as they understand the potential, and unintended, dramatic effect of this protest on the Library’s revenue.Long story short . . . This is just more evidence of falling revenues for everyone in and around this town and the impact of a recession on Kansas City.
Thankfully, I only believe information I read on the Internet so this lawsuit doesn't really concern me but the many folks who utilize the library might be concerned that the place is forced to engage in a court battle in order to survive.
