Cauthen beats Funkhouser (again) in opening rounds of budget discussions

Nobody watches boxing anymore but I was thinking that the constant bickering between City Manager Wayne Cauthen and Mayor Funkhouser reminds me a lot of the classic brawls between Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta - It was basically one of the first race wars for modern entertainment.

In his latest move Cuathen suggests a more reasoned approach to Mayor Funky's panic mode politics:
City Manager Wayne Cauthen says following the budget course suggested by Mayor Mark Funkhouser would require eliminating more than 870 jobs and slashing city services.

In a memorandum issued late Tuesday to the mayor and the City Council, Cauthen said, “I cannot recommend” $78 million in cuts in a single budget year.

He said doing so would require him to recommend eliminating 872 full-time employees (or enough to staff the public works and parks departments) and closing Kemper Arena, the city jail, animal shelter, two fire stations and four community centers, as well as many other cuts.
What's great about Cauthen's move is that it clearly demonstrates the fire sale on City Services that Mayor Funky is trying to sell the public.

AND NOW, HERE'S THE TKC CONSPIRACY THEORY OF THE DAY!!!

In all this discussion, what' I've seen from Funkhouser's camp (once again) leaves me unimpressed . . . He's basically taking a page from the George Bush playbook and touting a crisis in order to bend the public to his will.

This concept was recently highlighted in an amazing book entitled "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein.

The book alleges that major economic policy shifts in nations throughout the world were pushed through while the citizens of these countries were in shock from disasters or upheavals.

This kind of tactic could explain the Mayor's stubborn and confrontational style and his self-described attempt to "shake things up" at City Hall. Certainly, I'm really scared of his wife's feet and her racial slurs have put so many people in shock along with Funkhouser's divisive politics. Nevertheless, eliminating City Hall jobs (literally, fighting City Hall) is never the wisest option.

And thankfully, not everyone in Kansas City scares so easily.

  2. Of course major changes are made during times of upheaval. The idiots that run governments never change anything unless forced into it.

  7. Yeah, Cauthen did it...he created this budget mess singlehandly...put us all in this mess...he had no help from the former Mayor or the other council members...or the 2 department heads now in the MAYOR's office...one of them the former auditor who can't seem to keep his own financial mess in order...yeah, they did nothing to help create this financial mess...Yeah, that's right...let's blame the black guy...that's the ticket...Boo Cauthen...For our race everything, outside of our race - nothing!!!

Guess we know who the original authors of the Race Creed were...
