While every white person in North Kansas City is celebrating their savior Mayor Mark Funkhouser, the rest of the city is soon to get a cold hard look at reality as a Mayor with NO COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT EXPERIENCE whatsoever has proven that the only thing he's really good at (just like former mayor Kay) is showing up for press conferences.
Last Night Mayor Funky introduced George Clinton and the remains of Parliament Funkadelic at Crossroads KC - A place that local "artist" (read: scumbag) Stretch set up in order to lift even more shekels off of KC's hipster community.
I saw the video clip on Channel 9 and noticed that not only did the (small) crowd not even seem to care but I also remembered that Clinton had been arrested a few years ago for cocaine possession.
So I guess that's what things have come to here in KC: In order to secure the Mayor's liberal, friendly image (while he kowtows to the ruling class up North) he'll appear with anybody who will contribute to his hipster cred no matter what their background.
Get used to these fun and meaningless appearances because they are the only thing this Mayor is good for . . . Put simply, HE IS ALL TALK.
He won't face the political hit and fix the sewers or KC's water infrastructure, HE WON'T EVEN SPEAK TO THE ISSUE OF CRIME, he has no plan to put an anchor tenant in the Sprint Center and he's counting of Johnson County (bi-state taxes - good luck) to handle the light rail fiasco that Clay Chastain has sunk this City into . . . Seems as if they only thing his amateurish and inexperienced camp led by his wife is good at doing is coming up with commercial ideas and nifty PR appearances.
Here's an example . . . The Westside has undergone a rash of burglaries and other instances of crime as of late (which I reported on earlier in the week), last night there was a meeting to discuss what neighbors and police can do about the problem. That's a far more pressing issue then who is going to introduce the bands for Stetch's money making scheme . . . Yet this situation isn't even going to be addressed by The Mayor's office until somebody is killed. Already, several of those high dollar houses on the Westside area have sold at HUGE LOSSES and it's clear that condo living close to Downtown KC isn't all it's cracked up to be . . This town's real estate bubble has burst and the Mayor is still striking campaign poses. I understand that the guy was just sworn in . . . But how long is it going to take for him to do something of consequence?
P.S. - The Red Bridge thing doesn't count considering that all Mayor Funky did was say a few kind words while Cathy Jolly and John Sharp actually put their name on the line and signed the petition to stop (delay) the thing.
