The phrase "Make it rain" can be defined in some circles as throwing a bunch of filthy money at an even filthier stripper in appreciation for her showing her naughty bits (Note: the purple lights of a strip club not only make everything look nicer but also hide the track marks). The practice is the equivalent to a "money shot" only it supplements alkaline man juice with currency yet still manges to stay just as degrading.
Anyway, while politicians have only a slightly better reputation than strippers it seems that they are ready to have some more money rain down on them because of tricky ballot language.
By Dec. 1, the Citizens' Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials panel is supposed to recommend new salaries for judges — who are significantly underpaid, according to a long line of speakers Friday — while also addressing the salaries of lawmakers.First of all, the notion that judges are underpaid is completely false. I haven't noticed a serious drop in murders or in crime, in fact, most people know that any statistical downward trend has more to do with how the stats are compiled rather than the reality on the street for most folks. So, just as I've always voted NO on every judge because of these facts . . . I don't see how they deserve a raise. Also, there is always a slight risk that any money given to a local judge will simply be gambled away.
Voters overwhelmingly approved a measure Nov. 7 that makes it easier for lawmakers to approve whatever salary increases the commission recommends. But critics say the wording of the state constitutional amendment purposefully disguised that part of the measure.
As for elected officials? Recently, Councilman Fairfield proved that more money is merely a phone call away after an important vote and Saundra McFadden-Weaver had more than a quarter of a million dollars floating around her bank account recently so I have to assume that all of the people on the Council are doing fine.
