re: "The Missouri Restaurant Association opposes smoking bans, saying it supports business owners’ right to allow smoking, said Brina Bruno, western regional director.
ReplyDelete"The association’s position: 'If a consumer does not like the smoking policy of a particular restaurant, that consumer has the right to take his business elsewhere. … Market forces should drive policy change and not government and special interest groups.' Ken Davis, a clinical assistant professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center, said that because of 'blue collar' demographics, Wyandotte and Cass counties’ populations have larger proportions of smokers, which could be a drag on stricter regulations for those areas."
perhaps some of us like restaurants and bars enough as an entertainment source to put up with the smoke whether we like it or not. lawrence, kan. clubs have earned more revenue from me than ones in kansas city recently, due in part to the lack of smoke to be found in them.
and, what are they saying, blue collar people smoke more? what else are they saying with that? even if nothing, i find the claim poorly supported. where does one get smoking data anyway? lots of people lie to their health insurance agencies about it, after all.
