TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS APPROVE EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAYS DESPITE PARENT AND COMMUNITY CONCERNS!!!

A controversial vote form last night's school board agenda has Kansas City Public School Officials waking up to community backlash.

The debatable policy . . .

Early Release Days passed every Wednesday for the 185-School Year Calendar.

It was a 5-4 vote and the Superintendent recommended the measure despite resistance.

In the aftermath of the decision parents are worried about:

- School lunches

- Substituting childcare for Wednesdays.

- Fewer hours of study for KCPS students.

Reality . . .

THERE'S WIDESPREAD RESISTANCE TO WEDNESDAY EARLY RELEASE ACROSS THE KCPS AND PARENTS ARE ALREADY ASKING THE DISTRICT TO RECONSIDER THE DECISION!!!

Developing . . .

Comments

  1. A nearly unilateral decision from the administration. Not just unpopular but counter productive when we're trying to earn back accreditation.

  2. Oh great now they;ll just be home alone or free roaming the streets that much earlier. Did they even consider the safety of their other citizens

  3. Of course not, @ 7:51 - they're trying to increase the safety of the Teachers and Administration.

  4. The safest place for kids is at school. This is a dumb decision and will increase teen violence in the city. The District must be in denial that their attendance is even close to being acceptable to allow students even less time I’m school. What’s nwxt? No testing.

  5. I wish they would make it Friday. Childcare is a huge concern and most people would be able to get out of work a few hours early on Friday afternoon, at the end of the week than Wednesday afternoon.
    Did nobody think of that?

  6. This city, regardless of which governmental organization it is continually makes stupid desions that effect people in negative ways and does not care. Vote out any and all incumbents, we need change.

  7. I'm starting to question if maybe the students in school might be smarter than those whose job it is to run the school district.

  8. Every district in the metro already does this. This is nothing new. You people complaining have no kids and only want to run your traps. Wake up dopes.

  18. @3:19PM-why don't you know your own kids schedule you good for nothing deadbeat father?

  19. SMSD absolutely does early dismissal for professional development each week. In fact, the only 2 school districts that don't do it in this area currently are KCPS and Hickman, the two unaccredited ones. Probably a coincidence.

This is what happens when people see teachers & schools as babysitters. It's one afternoon a week.

  20. ^^^^^They don't do it every week one or maybe two days a month
