Higher crime and generic competition didn't inspire this local biz to remain in this town's most embattled entertainment district. Take a look: Swirk Jewelry to close after 51 years on Country Club Plaza

Why not, the plaza is infested with bad things.
ReplyDeletehe seems nostalgic for how the plaza used to be. A real high class place.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I blame him.
The idiots bitched and complained about Highwoods until they sold because of the Save the Plaza crowd. Now a mall owner is running the Plaza into the ground. The owners just signed a contract with a Nike outlet store. Where are those activists now?
ReplyDeleteMaybe an artisan beard wax joint will go in that space.
ReplyDeleteHighwoods brought in all the run of the mill chains and chased out local business in the process.

ReplyDeleteThe Plaza is dead. Houstons will become a 54th St Grill soon. Looks like outlet stores are opening there shortly. This place is dead killed by chains and black youths. I say tear it down and build a new baseball station there.

ReplyDeletetation.extend the toy, build new tattoo shops.
It really is easy to wax poetic about how the Plaza used to be, but it was such a special place. It was the one thing I thought KCMO would guard and protect at all costs, but obviously not. Can't believe what has happened there.
ReplyDeleteA Lot of the Plaza Best stores are leaving.
ReplyDeleteThe Plaza is a has been shopping place.
Maybe the Mayor could leave town and take his friends with him. http://www.kmbc.com/article/rat-problem-on-the-rise-in-kansas-city/8671459
ReplyDeleteJust a matter of time until a wig/hair extension place opens there to serve our "urban crowd." Ain't diversity great?
ReplyDeleteTHEY HAVE A GROUP CALLED SAVE THE PLAZA HOW BOUT SAVE KANSAS CITY AKA KILLA CITY
ReplyDeleteTime to relocate / revalue "The Plaza" on the 'Kansas City Monopoly' board.
ReplyDeleteOn Monopoly board Killa city wouldn't even make it to Baltic Place , only Go to Jail spot , with the homosexual illegal bitchery liberals Boyz from the douchebag Hood !
ReplyDeleteThey need a good payday loan, pawn shop and dry cleaners on the Plaza.
ReplyDeleteSwirk's is a pawn shop. Sell a gem as a investment and then twenty years later he will buy it back at a small fraction of your cost. If you question the disparity Swirk will look you in the eye and explain that a gem is similar to a new car in that once you drive it off the lot you lose..... What is particularly disturbing is his alternative history of Swirk jewelry....Brian remembers the designers,ha ha what a outright lie. Many people remember the Swirk " jewelry " of the 1960s and 70s, a 10 foot x 10 foot room with your father fixing watches and your mother engraving and stringing pearls. There was no room for designers repairmen salesman and on and on with the lies. All of your lies have been rewarded with failure. And he is not closing for a lack of business.
