TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! MASSIVE KANSAS CITY HOMELESS CAMP SITE THREATENS UPSCALE DOWNTOWN RIVER FRONT REVITALIZATION!!!
We start New Year 2017 with more evidence of a homeless crisis threatening Kansas City and so much real estate speculation supported by taxpayer subsidy.
To wit . . .
SPECIAL THANKS TO KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WARNING OF A MASSIVE HOMELESS CAMP THAT HAS BEEN UNREPORTED BY MAINSTREAM MEDIA BUT REMAINS THE CAUSE OF CONSTANT NORTHEAST, RIVER MARKET AND DOWNTOWN WORRIES!!!
Here's a quick look at the site and a bit of an indication of scale . . .
There are at least a dozen super-size tents that occupy nearly a full city block with homeless campers . . .
Kansas City insiders acknowledge that the camp site is actually quite clever and protects the homeless from some of the elements, wind and interlopers.
Still, here are more FIRST PERSON deets on the camp . . .
"They're burning open fires to keep warm -- It's so close to very dry woods and nearby housing projects that it's a recipe for disaster. And it just doesn't make any sense. You have million-dollar lofts and condos and this homeless camp and its inhabitants are within less than two minutes walking distance away - That's also another indication of danger to people who are unaware that a lot of these folks are drug users or violent offenders who can't stay in shelters. Whatever the case, this camp site has grown to MASSIVE proportions and there are now HUNDREDS of people down there forming a town near the river and the railroad tracks. A lot of residents are aware of this problem and have asked the city to intervene and find real shelter for these folks. But we just hear back that "there's nothing that can be done" . . . When we talk about redeveloping Berkley Park, adding another streetcar line or more new housing . . . This homeless campsite and others like it need to be part of that conversation. And frankly I'm surprised that KCMO has let a homeless village of hundreds amass without stepping in and trying to help these people out of this illegal, dangerous and blighting tent city."
And so . . .
Last year's promises of a fight against crime, blight and dangerous housing have been completely unfulfilled while an illegal homeless village just a few steps away from the streetcar line, the River Market and so many new other developments not only presents a clear and present danger to luxury living space residents but also reveals growing economic disparity in Kansas City.
You decide . . .
What about the broken windows theory?
ReplyDeleteI guess tents don't have windows.
When the weather is okay, this KCMO tent city actually reaches a population of more than 500. That's bigger than nearby Avondale and Birmingham next to the casinos.
Deletegood reporting.
ReplyDeleteRiver front lofts seen right in the background. Only $3000 a month to live next to these neighbors.
ReplyDeleteThe city has a revitalization plan for the river front? Really?
ReplyDeleteI remember several years ago when the Flamingo casino was trying to come to KC they were going to finance an entire river front complex that even included retail space, bike trains, walkways and all kinds of safe space. The only problem was in a guy on Cleaver's city commission was trying to shake down the Flamingo to finance one of his personal projects and got caught. He later got caught taking bribes. That was NOT a case of blaming someone else for messing up river front plans.
So, I'm curious exactly what the big time river front plan is that the homeless are messing up....since there has pretty much been zero in the press about it.
"You have million-dollar lofts and condos and this homeless camp and its inhabitants are within less than two minutes walking distance away... ."
ReplyDeleteObviously the people living in the "million dollar lofts" should be evicted. It's just not fair that homeless people should have to put up with these insufferable nouveau riche snobs.
I'm confused, are these hobos or homeless and could someone please explain the difference?
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance.
Thesent people are homeless. Hobos are democrats who voted for Hillary and Sly.
DeleteLook these people don't vote, don't contribute to campaigns, don't generate grants so why would our leaders care? They are out of site and that's whats important.
ReplyDeletePerhaps history will repeat itself: When The Mob was putting together River Quay in '71-'72 the biggest impediment to getting suburbanites down there were the hobos/homeless.
ReplyDeleteThat is until the bums started being found floating in the Missouri river.
But are they killing one another every day like that other group of people do here in Kansas City?
ReplyDeleteKCMO should hire Giuliani as a consultant but only if all parties agree to implement his recommendations.
ReplyDeleteHe turned New York around under more diffucult circumstances than KC.
Chicago used to be called the city that works. No more. KC is unfortunately similar in some ways now.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea.
ReplyDeleteLet's send the coons to live down there and the homeless will scoot.
Then the coons will all shoot each other.
Then the area will be cleaned out to build on.
^^^^^ white trash. No humanity.
ReplyDeleteThese homeless have free streetcar rides to and from the downtown library where they hang out all day keeping warm and surfing on the web for porn.
ReplyDeletesad day for KC.
ReplyDeleteWe can't help our most vulnerable residents.
130 Nig Nog murders and you dipshits are worried about some homeless tent bandits.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of wimpy losers. Gotta be Republicans.
""They're burning open fires to keep warm -- It's so close to very dry woods and nearby housing projects that it's a recipe for disaster. "
ReplyDeleteExcept it rained today.
Buckets.
And it's still wet and damp and now foggy.
So there is that...

ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago ?????
The Flamingo Casino came to KC in the mid 1990's along with former SAMS TOWN Casino and the former Station Casino & Argosy Casino.
Sams Town opened in August 1995
damn near 2 Decades ago + ,,,,,each decade = 10 years,,,,,,,
that'd be 20 years ago,,,,,
This "camp" has been there since at LEAST the 70's. Go back in the Star and one ill find reports of this camp and the people in it. The Star seemed to run down their and interview someone every time there was a cold spell.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt pay $5 to stay anywhere near Kansas City. This is the armpit of America.
