Let's talk tourism to start this Kansas City weekend filled with fun, lame and somewhat notable attractions . . .
To wit . . .
A QUICK COMPARISON WITH BIGGER, BETTER CITIES INSPIRES POINTED CRITICISM OF KANSAS CITY TOURISM STATS THAT ARE UNCHECKED BY LOCAL NEWZ!!!
Thanks to our blog community for doing the math . . .
Remember Visit KC claims Kansas City hosts 24 million visitors each year.
Meanwhile . . . Denver attracts record 16.4 million visitors in 2015
And so, with a heaping helping of sarcasm our blog community sends this note:
"Is Denver not in the same league as Kansas City? Denver only attracted 16.4 million visitors last year. Kansas City claimed 24 million visitors. Any chance KC was fibbing about that 24 million???
Accordingly . . .
Like it or not and with respect to civic pride, it simply doesn't stand to reason that Denver hosts fewer tourists than Kansas City. More importantly, accurate accounting of tourism numbers is important because the data is used to justify City Hall subsidy of hotels, transit efforts and possibly a new airport.
Think about it: Denver is a bigger town, with much more notable attractions and they've got legal weed.
It might sting Kansas City residents to compare themselves with Denver and possibly come up short but the reality is that by locals demanding more realistic figures from public organizations like VisitKC, might end up saving a buck in the long run.
You decide . . .
The only way to figure this out is to have KCMo reform marijuana laws.
ReplyDeleteLegalize it.
And then do another comparison.
Another conspiracy theory as presented by the "insiders".
ReplyDeleteSame story different day.
More tomorrow.
Kansas City is surrounded on all sides by small towns. The family comes into town for a day, it's four visitors.
ReplyDeleteDenver is not.
There now, that wasn't so difficult, was it?
Unless your fictional "insiders" have some evidence to the contrary, but I could grow old and die waiting for that evidence to surface.
Denver has many notable towns as neighbors. Plus they have actual attractions.
DeleteHow many visiting family and friends do you take to stare at the Missouri River?
Data doesn't lie.
Of course it's bullshit
ReplyDeleteLyin Sly and whole crew are full of bullshit period.
ReplyDeleteThat's why they refuse audits
6:39 thats right! We come into town from Independence once a week and the family down in Gardner to! The cousins from Olathe, and the in laws from KCK as well!
ReplyDeleteLOL don't forget Liberty
ReplyDeleteDenver is just a much bigger cow town that happens to have mountains next to it.
ReplyDeletei try to get back whenevr possible, especially when frinds are in town.
ReplyDeletetommy,
harrisonville mo
Don't be silly. The choo choo will fill that hotel and bring in gabillions of visitors every day. Forever.
ReplyDelete@6:39 - You don't know what you're talking about. Denver is also surrounded by suburbs. Colorado springs, Aurora and Boulder are easy day trips.
ReplyDeleteUh, GOLDEN, famous for Coors! WHEAT RIDGE, CHERRY HILLS, ENGLEWOOD,....and More!!!
ReplyDelete6:39,.KCPS finest.
Denver doesn't have a chance of survival without an 18th & Vine district and a toy train.
ReplyDeleteand and COLORADO has Ski Resorts and more Military type places than Missouri,, Air Force Academy and Cheyenne Mountain and several other bases.
ReplyDeleteWhich draw even more people to Colorado & Denver !!
But Kansas City bullshit artists are always trying to be like New York or Los Angeles,,, in their Fantasy illusions and bullshit !!!
6:39 it's "for" idiot !
ReplyDeleteSince each streetcar rider is counted 4 times maybe they applied the same method to count visitors. 6 million sound s'more plausible.
ReplyDelete^^^^^ Lol!

ReplyDeleteTHE DENVER POST
SWF, wild red filly, seeks bareback rider for midnight rodeo.
Lyin' Sly and his cronies are corning a family driving in from Overland Park to see a Royals game as tourists.
ReplyDeleteThe shuck and jive show just never ends with these clowns.
Lot of unreporting going on in this dirty little town.
ReplyDeleteI would guess 8 million tourist a year. Otherwise we'd have a lot more male proustites.
ReplyDeleteGiddy Up cow girl
ReplyDeleteDenver has no mlb which attract huge crowds especially when winning
ReplyDeleteWhat is despicable is KC Star and Business Journal publish the figures in the press releases from City Hall s if they were fact. No investigative investigations of the outlandish claims.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's see, the streetcar has 5 million riders an hour.
ReplyDeleteSomebody should be in prison over City Hall's claim of 24 million tourists.
ReplyDeleteWhat we're really good at here in KC is destroying what's left of our own credibility.
Denver is a real city, you're not.
ReplyDeleteKC really wants you to believe that there are 24 million people who have been here and now know KC sucks ass?
ReplyDeleteWhen them thar facts doesn't agree with mah idears that I has with no real reason as to why, I jus doesn't bleeve them facts. I'm so smertkc. I got that thar intreenet, and daggummit, I'm a whahight mayun! Respect my cipherin dalgummit!
