Here's a photo and a really good question . . . Our inclination is that taxpayers are probably stuck with the bill . . .
The question:
KC INSIDER: The streetcar needs a tow today. Who pays for that????
Tell us if you know . . .
UPDATE: They say the streetcar is running again after a stop that jammed up and SHUT DOWN the ENTIRE LINE . . . But clearly a great many transit activists have been shamed by this latest tragic episode.
$100 million.
ReplyDeleteKC has payed too much so far.
Answer: The people who voted to have a streetcar and be taxed for it. I.e. the people in the TDD who are benefiting from it.
ReplyDeleteROTFLMAO... where are the cheerleaders when you need them? They tried it -- in the darkness of night-fall. This keeps getting better. If a street car is being towed then the hype about temporary stoppage and track issues... In the case of the streetcar only having minor mechanical failure and limited track shifting issues, the lie detector determined... that was a lie.
ReplyDeleteLet us hope the Feds will keep it out of service until a complete safety inspection is done. Apparently, no one was hurt this time, but...
ReplyDeleteHey Tony did you hear about Steve Crotchrot from The Pitch?
ReplyDeleteHE'S GOING TO WORK AT THE STAR, LOSER. SOMETHING YOU CAN NEVER ATTAIN.
Ooooooo. Fierce!!
DeleteSly has three streetcars; two are used in service and the third is backup. If one breaks, why don’t they put the backup one in service and just have it detour around the broken one?
ReplyDeleteBecause working at the Star makes someone a WINNER.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is seriously funny stuff.
8:14 PM
ReplyDeleteI know, right. LOL
Crotchrot fits right in with the stories he's been spinning lately. He's a sellout. I guess he couldn't pay his bills at the Star - so he decided to join The Falling Star, who has been laying off in bulk for the past few years. Great career move for a so-so journalist who moved to the other side a few years back as well.
Way too much time in front of the computer Tony.
ReplyDeleteBut keep plugging. One less taking up space in public.
Awwww. Streetcar fall down go boom?
DeleteThe towing, like all the other maintenance and repair, will be paid out of the massive financial surplus the incredibly popular streetcar is generating.
ReplyDeleteWhat it lacks in margins, which are ZERO, since it's free, the geniuses who brought KC this wonder plan to make up in volume.
Proving they know about as much about economics as they do transportation.
All aboard!
New rule!
ReplyDeleteHipsters on broke down streetcar call for help on Obamaphones.
OBAMA pays!!!
Well lemme do some News-dog math here. That brand new Pete 389 out of the box runs a little shy of $400,000. That's with no tools, no accompanying anything, straps, chains, fluids, jacks, bars, etc. The Company, in this case Midwest Tow has to charge accordingly in order to, a.) pay for the truck, b.) pay for the driver and c.) make some margin of profit. Given this is a winch job, that traditionally costs extra by the way, and the caller, in this case the Streetcar Authority gets billed from the time they hung up the phone to the time that streetcar is back in the barn and not a minute less, at an average going rate of $250 an hour, plus mileage, AND, they're hauling what would be considered "delicate" cargo, this tow bill will run between $15-20-k. Throw in if it was a Police initiated tow you can tack on an additional $500-$700. Small change considering but it's a $20,000 ticket to an agency that hasn't generated one cent of revenue.
ReplyDeleteKmbc just announced during the 9pm news that the streetcar is back up running.
ReplyDeleteBack up and running? Shit let's just skip an investigation and let this tin can roll! Who gives a shit about safety in Killa City!

ReplyDelete^^^ Consultant working late. At least your getting paid well.
ReplyDeleteAre those "core wards" the ones that you've gerrymandered to ram this thing through again?
LOL....the Bear leaves town for a couple of weeks for some R/R and when he gets back....wtf.....nothing new in Killa City. Niggers stealing and the Tuna Can off the rails.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shit hole.
We're better than this KC. We're better than this blog.
ReplyDeleteDon't hate but show how you can support our city. The goal is to make us BEST in the nation.
10:27 must be a middle school teacher rehashing lines she uses to get the kids to behave on field trips.
ReplyDeleteShut the fuck up.
Is that Sly James operating the tow truck? Whoopee!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe goal is to make us BEST in the nation.
ReplyDeleteLMAO rah rah boom boom go team go
The goal is the loot and shake down taxpayers and leave them as the ultimate bagholders when shit wears out.
ReplyDeleteThat's the iconic image, the towing of the Davie Johnson mobile shelter.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the tow company is going to withold the city's property until they sell city hall to pay the toe bill. That's how the cities tow buddies do it to the tax payers when they get towed.
