Today the bus serves as an alternative to denizens of a Downtown transit scheme that has FAILED to live up to expectations so far.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY STREETCAR LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF JUNK ON MONDAY THANKS TO A TRAGIC SHUT DOWN ACROSS THE ENTIRE LINE WHICH REFLECTS POOR PLANNING AND $100 MILLION WASTED!!!
Remember this comes after constant break downs on opening weekend and user complaints about bumpy and horrible rides . . .

Developing . . .
There is a reason streetcars went out of business 50 years ago. If this was about "transit" they could have put in a fleet of electric buses and run them for free up and down Main, to the Plaza and over to 18th and Vine all for less. It's about style over substance and egos over economics.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really bad. And they want another one? No thanks.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the driver thought they'd extended service to the Plaza already and forgot he/she was driving a streetcar and not a bus.
ReplyDeleteHow many months did they test this 19th century transportation?
ReplyDeleteIt went off the tracks. A derailment.
ReplyDeleteIt should be shutdown until a federal safety inspection has been done on the entire line inspecting every square inch.
Oh wow! This is bad! Now all the suburbanites who hated the streetcar anyway will still hate it, and the 100,000+ riders, the people in midtown who voted for expansion, and the people who already love the streetcar will still love it and not worry about a minor mechanical glitch.
ReplyDeleteTony's Circle of Influence.
Toot toot, clunk clunk. Skid.
ReplyDeleteSo was it a derailment?
ReplyDeleteI think that says more about the city and our streets than the actual streetcar. We need to work on fixing streets in order to improve transit for buses as well.
We can do this!
They want more money for this, that's a shame.
ReplyDeleteThey shouldn't even think about asking for an additional line. Screw that.
Streetcar is a FAIL.
ReplyDeleteI bet David Johnson pissed his pants today... like the toddler he is.
ReplyDeletelets not get our shorts in a bunch just a small glitch. at least it was not going 100 mph. trust the city fathers just look how they have reduced the crime and murder rate.
ReplyDeleteCan't get this thing working right, what a shame. Do you think they released it too soon?
ReplyDeleteAnother scheme that has left our mayor looking stupid. Why can't get get anything right in Kansas City? That's my question. We we have so many things our city can be proud of after the World Series win. Overall Kansas City is a great place to live. But every time we propose some big project like this it always ends up in disaster. You'd think we'd learn by now.
ReplyDeleteKC streetcar = bad, expensive joke.
ReplyDeleteSo when is it going to be fixed?
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you this, Sly and the gang should rethink any streetcar extension plan until they get the thing running properly. If they put this to a vote and then it breaks down that could ruin the whole thing which KC should really consider. We need to be forward thinking about transit but it also needs to work.
ReplyDelete6:17: Everyone's gonna want a streetcar in their neighborhood. Not.
ReplyDeleteSly and the gang really don't care if the streetcar runs or not.
ReplyDeleteTheir claims of being great leaders of a world class metropolis have already been endlessly made.
It's not transportation.
And, in the location downtown in which it has been built, it really doesn't have a chance at real economic development, which would require it to run between dense residential and a commercial center with jobs.
Now, on to Mike's hotel, a new airport terminal, and turning Kemper into a sports center.
And Sly and the gang won't care how any of those adventures actually turn out either.
Amateurs playing with other people's money is great fun for them, but rather painful to watch.
6:17, are you crazy when you say the suburbanites don't like the streetcar and the midtown people are riding it? The ridership has been primarily suburban families looking for a way to entertain their kids for free.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm sure there were problems for people who traded in their buggy whips for automobiles too but, dang, this is a black eye on all those who backed this pork barrel filled monstrosity. Just move over and let the busses run!
ReplyDeleteThis is the real legacy of Sly James.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we didn't let him get his hands on the airport.
7:05 is truth.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, this will finally convince the City to switch the streetcar route back to buses which will service the needs of the citizens better.
ReplyDeleteIt does not appear that anyone was hurt this time. Let’s hope the Feds will keep the KC trolley out of service until testing can be done to ensure it is safe.
ReplyDelete^^^^^ if we're talking a safety issue, the streetcar could be shut down for more than a week.
ReplyDelete7:05 PM Great observation!
ReplyDeleteJust one of the many reasons these clunky and obsolete transportation systems were taken out of service in the previous century.
ReplyDeleteJust park it over in the Jazz District. Nuthin' goin' on there, anyway.
ReplyDeleteAt a press conference, the KCATA reported that niggers had chewed through the wires.
ReplyDeleteBEFORE OPENING: GET READY TO RAIL
ReplyDeleteAFTER OPENING: GET READY TO FAIL
#kcstreetcar service is suspended until investigation is complete.
@RideKCTransit buses still in service for riders.
Buses can do miraculous things like turn corners, avoid lane blockages, and change routes as needed.
A school bus crashed into a house today. Maybe we shouldn't build any more houses. They are 4th century BC technology.
ReplyDeleteBut they rarely cost 100 million. ;)

ReplyDelete^^^ Does that count consultants paid to spam blogs?
ReplyDeleteThis entire blog is spam, big guy, including your 20 x daily cut and paste jobs.
ReplyDeleteSorry the grown folks don't respect your "safe space" you little pussy.
^^^^^^^ Is that why you're here in middle of the night reading, participating and engaging? Seems like you visiting so late at night is a pretty good endorsement of this work!
ReplyDeleteSo what did we do when the FREE Train ride broke down? We gave away free rides on the bus. So now the bus is also paying for the TOOT TOOT to not run. More advanced economic development.
ReplyDeleteLet me get this straight. We own a train that DERAILS while going less than twenty miles an hour in the summer season. We are going to expand this TOOT TOOT so that it will carry people down Main Street into the Plaza in the winter when its icy.
Your tax dollars at work......in another of the endless line of Afro-engineered city projects.
ReplyDeleteIt's called a learning curve, people.
ReplyDelete10:29, a learning curve, huh? Like that KCPS level of not fully accredited learning curve?
