Kansas City has consistently failed to include minority contractors in a slew of high-profile development projects and now a behind the scenes debate over MBE/WBE rules could force out a minority owned business out of city hall over petty paper work concerns.
To wit . . .
BAD-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TELL US THAT THE MINORITY OWNED BIZ THAT CLEANS CITY HALL COULD LOSE THE CONTRACT BECAUSE OUT DATED METHODOLOGY UTILIZED BY THE CITY MANAGER AND HIS HUMAN RELATIONS DEPARTMENT!!!
This is a minority owned firm that has proven successful over the years and right now there's a behind the scenes fight over the contract . . .
Even worse . . . A new, out-of-town firm is looking to take over the biz and their pitiful promises to rehire workers who currently clean up City Hall have fallen flat.
People assume that City Hall is dirty but actually the facilities are quite tidy and firm is part of the reason why . . .
But here's where it's might get interesting . . . If this minority owned biz gets the boot, the current City Hall record of excluding minority owned contractors at the new Cerner site, in the construction of the streetcar, the development of the hotel and every other major project might be called out.
Reality . . .
MINORITY CONTRACTORS THROUGHOUT KANSAS CITY HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED WITH THE PALTRY LEVEL OF PARTICIPATION AND CITY HALL ROAD BLOCKS TO SUCCESS!!!

Whilst Mayor Sly has been great about touting developers for his pet projects, there's word of a growing number of MBE/WBE contractors left out in the cold and now these complaints are growing louder during e-tax time election time and one concern after the next.

What city departments like to do is have businesses bid on jobs then not following through on the winning bid contracts. They claim "budget cutbacks" or some other lie. They waste millions of dollars of other peoples time. Either they are getting free estimating services or the prices do not meet their low ball Walmart mentality.

What ever happened to "Lowest, most responsive bid"? I don't understand why anyone should get preferential treatment over another contractor for any reason, especially race, age, sex etc..
