TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY'S TEAM REJECTS HOCKEY IN FAVOR OF COMMUNITY CENTER AMID KEMPER ARENA TALK!!!

While City Hall still attempts to try and figure out what to do with Kemper, AWESOME INSIDERS reveal that the Administration of Mayor Sly James favors YET ANOTHER community center instead of a more ambitious plan that could bring hockey back to Kansas City proper.

Background . . .

There are two competing plans for Kemper Arena.

The Foutch Bros have a "youth sports hub" in mind read: Yet another Kansas City community center.

Meanwhile, the plan from Wichita's Steven Bros is more ambitious and not only includes hockey but also a Hispanic music venue, boxing and even MMA events . . . Turning Kemper Arena back into a local attraction rather than another money losing line item.

And here's where things get ugly . . .

MAYOR SLY'S ADMINISTRATION FAVORS PUSHING THE CITY HALL INSIDER FOUTCH COMMUNITY CENTER PLAN INSTEAD OF OPENING UP THE BIDDING PROCESS!!!

The Foutch contingent is represented by Northland Super lawyer John Fairfield and we can't help but notice that Foutch is earning a great deal of school district and city biz as of late . . . Their winning is deserved for the most part and the innovative company certainly is on the upswing. However, even a cursory view of Kemper's finances and maintenance needs reveal that their community center plan is a loser.

Sadly . . .

THIS KANSAS CITY INSIDER DEAL STUBBORNLY SUPPORTED BY MAYOR SLY'S ADMINISTRATION DOESN'T ADD UP IN THE LONG RUN!!! AND MAYOR SLY'S OFFICE SEEMS TO BE USING CITY STAFF AS HIRED GOONS IN ORDER TO SUPPORT HIS MISGUIDED OPINION!!!

The point here is that very few people @ 12th & Oak have the courage to stand up and tell the Mayor that he's wrong. His myth of popularity persists even if has only been won by competition against some homeless guy who only raised a few hundred dollars to campaign against just about every corporation and law firm in Kansas City.

Accordingly . . .

There are still proponents of this deal but Mayor Sly's inability to think outside the box when it comes to Kemper threatens to leave Kansas City with another doomed community center rather than a venue that could actually attract a paying crowd.

Developing . . .

  1. TKC, you should know this by now. Lawyers are only good at spending other people's money. Sly's business experience is limited at best.

  2. Think outside the box?

Burn the box down! I am sick of paying for that White Elephant.

  3. Give it back to the Kempers. Make them pay for it.

  4. These back room deals are the way City Hall works. Sly, Troy and the corruption crew will figure a way to get what they want.

  6. We have hockey in the metro area at the Independence Event Center (or whatever it's called now) and the Sprint Center can accommodate hockey as well, why on earth would we need Kemper Arena for hockey events? All they could possibly be talking about is poaching what few events require a large ice rink from Independence and the Sprint Center, how does that add anything to the economy?

As for MMA, boxing, and Hispanic music ... there are plenty of venues for those events too, including the same ones that host hockey events.

I'm honestly not sure about a 'youth sports hub' but it certainly sounds more like something that does not currently exist than a venue that will do nothing to add new events, just poach events from other venues.

Let them tear it down. They want to.

  8. Two Words: MEGA CHURCH.

Church of the Resurrection is investing in property all over town. JUST GIVE IT TO THEM. They would invest a ton in it. And the area around it. No TIF or any other financial jujitsu. Just let them take it off the City's Books!

I'm not a religious sort, but in Houston, Joel Ostein's turning a sports arena into a Mega Church completely revitalized the surrounding urban area.

    This would work.

  10. Reasoned response 812. HOWEVER, it does not play into Tony's conspiracy compulsion. SO, you will have to endure the repetitive chants from TKC hoping for just 5 more hits.

Predictable as watching one of those ant farms they sell to kids.

  11. When the Sprint Center campaign was in full swing we were told Kemper would remain a viable arena with lots of use. Just another lie told by the "civic elites".

  12. Cordish wanted Kemper dead from day one. Less competition for P&L District. Sly continues deception with refinancing of $297 million P&L bonds for two years prior to and during 2015 city election. Lowering projected city/taxpayer portion from estimated $15 million to $5 million.

What was taxpayer cost of this refinancing deception? Five million?Ten million? Defer paying $10 million for two years by adding to the principal. Maybe the bond dealers and bond lawyers know. Do they get their standard fees? Who are these civic leaders? Try refinancing any personal loan.

    Ka-ching!

  13. PAY TO PLAY IN KCMO

I've selected just a few names from this sole quarterly report to remind and emphasize to the reader that politics and business are cohabitating bedfellows in a Kansas City world where money greases the wheels of conduct. This is from "58287 January Quarterly Report 01/15/2015".......please recall that incumbent Mayor James had no serious opposition in this election. At the time the following contributions were made to Mayor Sylvester James' campaign there was no question as to the election's outcome. So, why do you think these people (and these are just a few) donated money? See how many of these names you recognize from recent news postings on TonysKansasCity.com

This all good, and a waste of time to consider here. The NEW information on Katie Horner's failed relationships and full on obsessed sex life under the post with the NAKED NEWS girls is more interesting and just as likely to change the world.

  15. OH! OH! OH! OH! OH!

Make it a Mega Church AND a "community center." That way the more mobile thugs...er, sorry: disadvantaged youth in town can either be saved or just go on and head off to hell.

All in a location no one cares about.

    Total win.

  16. Community Centers don't make money. Just another tax drain. Hate to be the next Mayor . Maybe this is why the good one's don't run for office.

  19. Because NIGGERS don't play much hockey, this must be used for something else like say, another basketball center? Then, the NIGGERS can congregate down there and tear up that area too.
