Again, on the record Jackson County officials aren't allowed to comment on employment issues and probably want to stay far away from this talk about the fate of the Senior Advisor for Policy and Communications to the Exec. but this BEHIND THE SCENES TKC SNEAK PEEK offers a scintillating glimpse at the reality of local political life and the fortunes of a former City Council woman and State Rep. Top 3 consequences of the Jolly termination
Word of the Jolly termination yesterday has now made its way across the street so I can verify that she was in fact fired from her pad at the county. It was well known that she was almost never there, had not been coming in more that a couple of hours a week for months, and had stopped even creating the appearance that she was doing anything of substance for her $75K. We had tried create an over/under betting pool on when/whether Sanders would have the "stones" to ever fire her, but NOBODY in our office of 7, including me I must say, thought he would ever do it. Needless to say, yesterday's events came as a bit of a major political surprise. Also interesting to me is that I hear that she was offered nothing in the way of "severance" other than an escort to the door. VERY strong move by the CE. I also hear that Mrs. Taylor/Jolly was irate.
As usual, I am less interested in the justifications (or lack there of) for canning an overpaid political hack, and am much more focused on what we can deduce from the events at hand. The following is a short list of those deductions:
1. The county executive just made a very public and very strong move. Clearly, if he was concerned about the fallout of firing the Jolly/Taylor faction, he would have held his fire and let her ride out her time in comfort, just as she had been doing. Most politicos would have tried to buy her off with kindness (i.e.- lots of taxpayer money and the freedom to continue to "work from home"), Sanders on the other hand seems to have given Jolly/Taylor a very public middle finger.
2. Scott Taylor's mayoral chances took a severe shot. Even though most have a rather dim view of Taylor and his abilities, the couple has worked extremely hard to position him for a mayoral run. Like it or not, the Jolly/Taylor's had counted on Sanders as being a key component of their election strategy. Tonight, Wagner, Justus, or anyone else already jockeying to be the next mayor just picked up a new series of well-connected friends friends.
3. Harry Truman was right, if you want a friend in politics, buy a dog. Georgia Sanders and Cathy Jolly were purported BFF's from way back in the day. Let's fact it. it's why Jolly got a sweet $75k pad at the courthouse in the first place. These events show that the Truman dictum is correct, friendships are fungible as politicos jockey to position themselves for their own self interests.

Isn't it funny as soon as Cathy talk to the FBI she get fired for not showing up.
ReplyDeleteMike and Georgia could have talked with anyone who worked around Cathy Jolly in Jeff City or in City Hall and they would have heard that Cathy is lazy, self-absorbed, and above all vindictive if she feels threatened. And because Cathy knows she is lazy and self-absorbed, she feels threatened most of the time.

ReplyDeleteWhat's saddest of all is that not a single word has been uttered about what ANY of these people even try to do for the taxpayers and county residents who pay their salaries and who they're supposed to be there to serve.

Jolly will shortly show up on some other public or nonprofit, or that of some corporation who gets sold a bill of goods that she can "get them inside" the system.
Jackson County and KCMO are cesspools of incompetent insiders who just go from one failure to the next.
And all at public expense.
During her tenure in her most recent make-work job, how much money has been wasted?
What a joke.
How will Mommy buy me new costumes and dance lessons? We need that $75K a year much more than any taxpayers do. And so what if she and I stayed at home alot? Just like Mommy tells me all the time, WE ARE SPECIAL!

ReplyDeleteWhere can you simply stop showing up for work and not be fired? How is it that an employer is mistreating an employee who quits showing up for work and terminates that employee? I would say that Ms. Jolly was simply arrogant.

ReplyDeleteI think it's disgusting that someone who is paid $75K per year by taxpayers and doesn't show up for work or do anything was not fired when she first started pulling this shit and is not required to pay back the money she was paid.
