TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KCPS VOTES FOR NORTHEAST KANSAS CITY THACHER ELEMENTARY DEMOLITION!!!

Tonight we are sad to report the tragic aftermath of a vote that didn't give much regard to the earnest efforts of parents and the community.

THE KCPS VOTED TO DEMOLISH THACHER ELEMENTARY TONIGHT IN A CLOSE VOTE CONTESTED BY PARENTS AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY!!!

Here are the deets:

"The school board voted 5 to 4 for Thacher demolition. The North East Chamber of Commerce offered $5000 earnest money for additional time. Gunnar Hand offered on alternative that would have only torn down the fire damaged portion, but school board members were advised by their "experts" that it was not a viable option.

Save Thacher, Save Our Schools offered a proposal that was in line with the school's master plan to provide wrap around services to the students, but in the end, five school board members decided that extending the soccer field and adding additional surface parking was more conducive to the learning environment of KCPS students."

  2. How's that innovation working out for the school board? Im sure Ashley and Sly influenced Gunnars bullshit vote and proposal. Gotta love how corrupt the school board and city are and the blatant disregard for the will of the taxpayers.

  3. School board is training ground for city council. It's all the same pile of shit!

  4. In this town the tax payer voice is never heard! The local government has a agenda, and you cant fight it, and you can try but you will never win! just look at the history here! this is a city run by pricks who are self serving and throw enough flakes of lies to get the public to support their bullshit.

  5. Its not the city of fountains, its a city of lies, deception, and misappropriation of your tax dollars, hone in on the fire dept, thats just the beginning!!!

  7. I would love to see a young college student who is after a investigative reporting career , do a story on this town, once your done digging into all the corruption (because it will take you at least 4 years) you will be at your graduation, and if you do it right you will have gained national attention, and more than likely a job with a big network.

  8. The Board made the right decision. It is time to move on.

  9. Oh really? What to you propose the land gets used for? a quarter acre to grow weed? The city leaders understand that, but they grow their weed outside of district. Kinda smart actually, but not fair to the people they prosecute for doing what they have done for years here. They say whats good for the goose is good for the gander, in Kansas City that is never applicable, and as citizens not only should you wonder why, you should regain control of your city, and make it one of the best cities in the world because you did!

  13. Maybe we can get lucky and the Fat Bowtie, Troy Schulte, Art Benson, the entire school board and the entire council can be locked inside the building before the wrecking balls start swinging.

  14. We believed that preserving Kansas City's oldest school building and providing services to the students, community was a better use than surface parking and a soccer field on Independence Avenue.

It is not consistent with the school district's or the city's master plans. Demolition was the cheapest option, and everyone knows that we don't have money just laying around...

  15. 12:01 is partly right.
What passes for local government in KCMO actually DO live in a small farm town.
They just think, behave, and spend money like they live in a serious metropolitan area.
Most of them are empty vessels waiting for someone else to tell them what to do with $1.4 billion of YOUR money.
And they don't have to wait long!

  17. Repurposing buildings, community activities, wraparound services, and all the rest sound fine, but what all that really means are buildings operated and maintained at public expense with marginally financially sustainable nonprofits providing whatever they might think is important and mostly hustling for more "funding" from foundations, corporations, and most likely, governments at various levels.
The KCPS spends many millions of dollars supposedly trying to teach young people and has always been a trough of tax money that supports a whole menagerie of contractors, consultants, and hangers-on, yet year after year the educational results have been generally abysmal.
    A modest proposal:
Let the teachers teach, the administration run the district, and the parents emphasize the importance of hard work and getting an education to their children.
Everyone else go home and find something else to do.
