Right now there is a great deal of controversy among urban core media denizens over a recent radio switcheroo.
To wit . . .
BACKLASH AND JUST A BIT OF FRUSTRATION ARE EVIDENT AMONG KANSAS CITY URBAN CORE RADIO LISTENERS IN THE AFTERMATH OF NEWS THAT KPRS WILL NO LONGER FEATURE RADIO LEGEND TONY G.!!!
Tony G. has a career with KPRS that spans more than 20 years and he is deservedly considered a pioneer throughout the industry.
Here's an excerpt of the best perspective on the Kansas City media hot mess:
"For an URBAN station (i.e., supposedly BLACK), KPRS is ran by white managers (only two are black). Only 2 people in the sales (out of 10) staff are Black. With all due respect to Mike Carter, he's listening to the wrong people and surrounding himself with too many "YES" people who are only in it for themselves. You really wouldn't know the station is Black-owned if you're not a student of history . . . I am ASHAMED of what they have turned themselves into now. They are no longer pillars, but the laughingstock of the community."
To put this in perspective . . . Tony G. is to KPRS what Johnny Dare is to 98.9 The Rock - And radio insiders realize that Tony G. has a bigger market share in terms of urban core demographic percentages than Johnny . . . But the comparison is about clear as we can make it to suburbanite readers.
Anyhoo . . .
For quite some time the Kansas City media landscape has been changing but this move from KPRS has already resonated throughout the local media scene.
Developing . . .
This is their loss. Tony G. can easily pick up at any other station and take his audience with him.
ReplyDeleteAnother bad move from Carter Broadcasting Group.
Total bullshit.
ReplyDeleteAt least half of the staff is black and by the way, David, Mike's brother looks white more than black so the dumbshit probably counted him wrong. That staff by the way, for the most part has been there forever. Mike Carter is a loyal guy who sticks with his employees through some pretty serious shit, I kid you not. So all of you miserable race baiting fucks who wanna stoke the Race issue, are fucked with this one.
By the way, Mike also prohibits a great deal of the more sicking Rap Music with violent lyrics and hate women songs.
Mike Carter and his family are exactly what the American Dream is all about. The biggest haters in the community, are now and have always been, those blacks, cellularly imbued with entitlement issues by way of the Liberal Narrative that wants to keep da bruthas on the Democratic plantation.
ReplyDeleteKPRS has been a positive force in this community for decades and will continue to do so, long after everyone forgets who Tony G was.
Johnny dare isn't like standing on rock solid ground either. He's looking at another pay cut if he wants to stay in radio. Who needs these over paid jocks. Play the music and shut the fuck up with the jabber is what the listeners are saying.
ReplyDeleteWith any internet savvy person able to effectively program their own playlists and stations, who needs a DJ? Obsolete profession.
DeleteHope they get rid of Johnny Dare.
ReplyDeleteFace it, the era of the DJ is OVER.
Good Riddance.
Who in the fuck is Tony G.? And why does he insist on segregated radio?
ReplyDeleteTony G is just another nigger who wants to make everything a race issue is who he is
ReplyDeleteWhy u got to call him a nigger, u r a racist. Shut the fuck up
DeleteAnonymous racist are always so internet tough say that bullshit in a room full of black people pussy
DeleteTony your anti white racism is taking control again. You need to figure out how to run a silly little blog before you start managing broadcast radio in this town.
ReplyDeleteThe Bridge is trying to be KKFI but plays lame music. KKFI is like COINTELPRO at times? They need DJ shows mixing local and regional music.Talk radio is oooovaaaa!!!

ReplyDeleteKPRS is still around?
ReplyDeleteFor that matter; Radio is still around?
I thought radio is where dead tree journalists like Kraske go to die.
That latest stunt giving air-time to Alonzo was the last straw!!!
ReplyDelete7:33 AM You might know something about his character but KPRS is a horrible radio station and one of the most prevalent for playing abusive music and lyrics. Sorry, you're dead wrong on that.
ReplyDelete12:57
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure I never listen to it but they always tell me that
??
KPRS was a great easy listening station in the 60s. Bring that back!
ReplyDeleteDamn shame they would fire the man, he's the only reason I listened to their station.
ReplyDeleteNow on to Sirus.
Tony G? Never heard of him. Unless you're talking about Tony Gonzalez
ReplyDeleteDrive time is dead. Time to move beyond terresstrial radio.
ReplyDeleteAgree that Johhny dare needs to GO!
ReplyDeleteKPRS is terrible, plays music full of sex, cursing & violen. You wonder why there are 100 murders a year. What has KPRS or Michael Carter done for the community?? What exactly?? NOTHING, but continue to pimp the community out.
ReplyDeleteI like the quiet storm, good for fudging.
ReplyDeleteThe station is old you can tell it's ran my old heads... time for change get some new younger folks to dj face it ppl as old as tony g don't know what the youngsters like to listen too and as far as johnny dare he has lost his edge over the years so to see him leave wouldn't suck as bad as it would have years ago
ReplyDeleteWho in their right mind, would give any time to Alonzo Washington.
ReplyDeleteKPRS has always been garbage. With and without Tony G. He and Sean Tyler were the worse of the lot.
ReplyDeleteIm couldn't even talk to mr carter. Im a Dj at that. A. Winfrey. Tony never retired my calls. Too up on him self.
