TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! GRASSROOTS PETITION CHALLENGING KANSAS CITY AMBULANCE SERVICE BILLING OUTSOURCING NOW CERTIFIED!!!
Kansas City voters have now proven successful in challenging a complex local healthcare policy issue that was rammed through despite objections from the community.
To wit . . .
GRASSROOTS PETITIONERS SUCCESSFULLY GATHERED ENOUGH SIGNATURES TO CHALLENGE KANSAS CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT AMBULANCE BILLING SERVICE OUTSOURCING AND THEIR EFFORT WAS RECENTLY CERTIFIED BY THE CITY CLERK!!!
Again, this was a MAJOR SMACKDOWN to an effort championed by Mayor Sly James, Councilwoman Jan Marcason and a few others.
The petition to stop outsourcing of Kansas City Fire Department ambulance billing services resonated in Kansas City's urban core and among petitioners for many reasons but not limited to increased ambulance costs, loss of payment flexibility and privacy concerns.
Overall the petition effort was tremendously successful. This small group of volunteers gathered more than 10k petitions and in the end the number of valid signatures received was 8,078 which more than satisfied the 7,143 signature requirement.
Take a look . . .
Now what happens???
Mayor Sly and City Council are confronted with the prospect of either repealing the objectionable outsourcing ordinance OR putting it to a vote.
Expect a bit of debate on placement . . . However, City Charter language is pretty clear and a court order to put the Citizen Initiative petition on a more November ballot is already a tricky potential City Council ploy that organizers hope to thwart.
Kansas City Insiders say that the next proper vote date would be the City primary in April where there will undoubtedly be a hostile reception given the local interest in this matter and Council hopefuls might not want to speak on a subject that so negatively impacts locals and inspired so many to stand up and petition against.
Developing . . .
Insider deal to be sure, not even the company wanted to go through with it near the end.
ReplyDeleteYep. They might have pulled this outsourcing off had they not picked a company based on who knew who but when word got out it was over.
ReplyDeleteMore firefighter drama.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like this in other cities, folks.
Another win for the legal prowess of Dan Cofran who was hired to write the petition! White leadership gets things done.
ReplyDeleteCofran might as well design a yard sign with a swastika and burning cross integrated in the design.
ReplyDeleteHe is and will be the Great White Hope Candidate.
Firefighters can only count to ten...because their boots are too hard to take off to get em to twenty. Hence the accounting outsourcing. Besides, it'll keep the IAFF's hands offa the money.
ReplyDeleteSo when did day-to-day operations of the city become this big of a deal?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, when it promised to save the taxpayers money but eliminate some union stooges.
It is often said that people deserve the government they elect.
Not often that voters choose to spend more money to get nothing in return. But we'll see how it pans out at election time. I suspect this will pass.
ReplyDeleteRight you are, 6:49.
ReplyDeleteIt's
not
like
this
in
other
cities.
Not at all.
This bunch at City Hall rules by force, not by consent.
ReplyDeleteAnother win for the Unions and for City workers.
ReplyDeleteThey will fight outsourcing of any kind even if the outcome is good for the taxpayers and the City. One more reason to move to KS.
True - Go to a firehouse in Mission and you will see that they are busy all day - go to a firehouse in KCMO and they are sitting around doign nothing until a call comes in. Thanks to a great union contract, our Fireman seat around, play video games, watch movies.
ReplyDeleteSo keep renewing taxes with vague ballot language - give a blank check to the City and we all get screwed.
I'm sure La'Tanya does a great job collecting from customers who don't pay their ambulance bill.
ReplyDelete10:02 Was that racist?
ReplyDeleteAnother big "screw you" to the Sly James regime.
ReplyDeleteJust the simple fact that so many valid signatures were collected indicates how much people are fed up with Sly James.
ReplyDeleteIt is about send KC jobs out of state plan and simple. These position will never be done agin in KC if outsoutced. We need a Mayor and Council that bring jobs here not send them out of state.
ReplyDeleteCity Hall isn't a charity.
DeleteKCFD is out of control. Failure after failure. When is Sly going to step up and clean house??? How many more mistakes and lawsuits will the citizens have to pay for?
