Consider this follow-up to news that we reported FIRST . . . The Kansas City Toy Train Part Deux all comes down to "Freedom Wards" on the East Side despite Mayor Sly's pitch to a community he hasn't done much of anything for during his tenure . ..
Accordingly . . .
CHECK THIS 1ST PERSON PERSPECTIVE FROM TODAY'S MAYOR SLY EAST SIDE TOY TRAIN PLEA!!!
Take away from the mayors event today: "No really trust us this time we're going to help the east side infrastructure with the new street car"
More . . .
Well the mayor has Hartsfield and his church in support and other churches. One of the proposals sent to city manager was looking to freeze the property taxes of home owners in the new taxing district for a set amount of time . . . Looks like the mayor has finally realized he ain't getting his toy train without the east side. Guess we'll see if this is just another broken promise from city hall.
Developing . . .
Better title TKC:
ReplyDeleteWill revs run or ruin the toy train?
You can fool the people sometimes,
ReplyDeletebut you can fool KC all of the time.
Shame on YOU Sly
ReplyDeleteThis is where payoffs come in handy!
ReplyDeleteWhatever. This stupid streetcar idea will fail. NUFF SAID.
ReplyDeleteFreedom doesn't have any wards!
ReplyDeleteSounds like he is trying to buy votes. Isn't that illegal?, Oh maybe not in CK.
ReplyDeleteThe economic future of the city in the hands of the least educated and most easily manipulated.
ReplyDeleteBear in mind that the good and well-intentions cream of this area can't even make an event flyer that isn't usually riddled with comical spelling and grammatical errors.
Yep, sounds about right to me.
Make that "well-intentioned" lest one of you rubes gets uppity.
ReplyDeleteSo, what ur saying is that we're screwed???
ReplyDeleteThere are some wise black folk in Killa City. They are not all hoodisrattis urbanis. Makes one wonder if the "wise black folk" will see thru the GRIFTER reverends on the take and the dancing fool in the bow tie ?
ReplyDeleteKilling this stupid ass Toy Train waste of money would be a good start for turning this shit hole around. Send a message to the dancing fool at the top of 12th and Oak. Vote No...
The Toy Train is a ticket to nowhere. A billion dollar boondoggle is what it will be known as if this passes. This turd on a dump can't afford a billion dollar hit.
Vote NO
Of course they should vote yes, since city hall has kept all the promises they have made to the east side for the last 30 years.
ReplyDeleteGuess the mailer saying voting on building transit to the east side is "Jim Crow" didn't work, Gwen. Maybe if Rodney and Craig get some more of that sinquefeild money y'all can put it on a billboard that suburban commuters see.
ReplyDeleteHaha.
Freedom ain't free.
10:14 yo steetcar ain't free. not for poor folk.
ReplyDeleteThese idiots will believe more of the same empty promises like always as long as it's delivered by "one of our own." They see dollar signs and aren't smart enough to realize they will pay all right but no one I'd really lining up to throw money down the rabbit hole. They need their votes momentarily then once they get it will laugh at hoe gullible they are and forget they exist until next time.
ReplyDeleteAll of you shut the fuck up. It's not the east side that will pay for it - hell, there is hardly a tax base there - it is the rest of us in KC who have been gerrymandered out of the vote who will pay for this boondoggle. And yes, please look up this word, "boondoggle." No other moniker is more appropriate.
ReplyDeleteIf anybody thinks that building anything, including a rail line, will change what's going on on the east side, they've spent as little time there as Sly has.
ReplyDeleteThis latest is pandering and vote-buying at its best.
Does anyone really think that what's been missing on Independence Ave and Linwood is a streetcar?
Wouldn't yoou think that an idea that's supposed to be so wonderful could stand on its on merits?
This is nothing more than an attempt to undermine Freedom. They could have worked out something with Freedom in the early stages of the TDD planning but instead decided, "fuck 'em, we can do it without them." They ignored or chose to forget what Freedom did to the translational research tax and they will likely pay for that mistake.
ReplyDeleteSo this means that Freedom has a chance to become the REAL voice of the people.
ReplyDeleteSlippery Sly sinks!!!
The real voice of the minority of black voters?
DeleteSounds potent.
You know what WILL transform the east side? A massive organized effort by KCPD, KCPS, and Parks & Rec. We need to do a better job of keeping kids in school, keeping them out of trouble, and arresting/prosecuting criminals.
ReplyDeleteAlso, more jobs would be nice.
The approximate amount I will pay for the TDD assessment translates into my house already going up in value by 25% if the TDD passes.
ReplyDeleteI know that is false, property in the TDD will automatically go down as a person will buy in the lowest tax areas which will be out of the TDD.
I am voting NO.
Sounds like a real estate genius right there!
DeleteNo wonder your too poor to live in brookside!
Don't worry, vote how long time east side activists jim nutter and patrik Touhey tell you too, boy! Be a good tobey
KCMO has finally got the government we deserve. Clean Sweep next time.
ReplyDeleteIt's my fault, I hadn't been voting lately. That will change if I have to crawl. Believe it or not, thanks TKC for all the info.
This may pass. After all, KC likes most projects if they are told somebody else is gonna pay for it.
ReplyDeleteYep, the old carrot in front of their noses works pretty well in CK.
ReplyDeleteFederal government must match at least 50% of total cost.
ReplyDelete500(total cost) - 250 (mandatory minimum of 50% federal funding) = 250
Of the 50% cost remaining, 90% will come from the stadiums, plaza and Power and Light.
250 - 90% = 5% total construction cost to tax payers
Sounds to me like the rich just keep wanting to get richer. The stadiums, plaza and power and light are entertainment and the tax collected from these areas will make up a large bulk of the remaining cost, most actually.
Further, we need to bring money in from other cities. Kansas City used to be the top three places to hold conventions. Lack of public transportation has made other cities more appealing, costing us millions. This includes the republican convention we just missed out on.
We have already spent so much money on downtown, including P&L, opera house, new loft housing. Those investments will go to waste if we don't make the city more appealing to companies. Please look at Seatle and it's light rail, which appealed and attracted several technology based business to the Seatle area.
It's time to thrive and not die KC!
How are we to repair the roads, infrastructure, school system, ect, if we can't find the money! New jobs and new residents increase our tax base. We need them to want to come to Kansas City.
I know I will be deleted, but stop listening to the lies. Feel free to question my view as I am pro-streetcar. At least my side is asking you to research question A while some other organization are just straight up selling you a lie. Get the truth for yourself. Let's not give all this money to another state.
I hope this information at least encourages you to get the facts. The ads on TV are deceptive AT BEST. What is their motive.....
Thank you, blog moderator, I hope we can continue an honest conversation.
