Not only on the wrong side of the KCI single-terminal question, Fael reports that "I'm much more on the pro-side of this argument" referring to the "Little Toy Train That Can't" project.
"City officials have a large contingency fund to help pay for the project" writes Fael, but later adds "Most Kansas Citians at this point aren't fully aware that the $100 million downtown line could quickly morph into a much larger, $600 million or more project later this year." So, like a politician selling "pie-in-the-sky", in the span of a few sentences, Fael has made the jump from $100 million to $600 million, with the caveat that residents approve a one-cent sales tax increase. Yeah, that sounds about right, doesn't it? I mean taxes are SO low currently!
Let's do a quick summation of the recent Fael Follies:
New KCI Terminal = $1.2 Billion
Toy Train = $600 Million
...let's call it approx. $2 Billion
Hmm....if "economic development" is the desired goal of Mr. Fael, and the other propagators of publicized propaganda, couldn't you get much more BANG for the buck by backing business, building, and bus development in the targeted zones?
Building a new airport terminal and streetcar line to spur economic development is like buying a cattle ranch because you enjoy the occasional hamburger! If you just spend a fraction of the $2 Billion directly on ground beef, you'll have hamburgers out the wazoo!
