KANSAS CITY PAYS FOR HUGE COST OVERRUNS @ PRICEY KCPD EAST PATROL!!!

KCPD is busting their budget for East Patrol in much the same way that clothes rarely seem to be able to confine Kayden Kross.

Let's not forget that KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS warned of a $20 million dollar East Patrol change order back in May.

Today . . . Dead Tree Media finally seems to be "concerned" and helping to make a lot of excuses . . .

KC East Patrol crime lab project continues to be a concern

Money line and a call for Kansas City forgiveness . . .

"Kansas City officials admit a $57 million budget for the East Patrol campus seriously underestimated land, design and other costs. But they say they're now focused on solutions instead of blame."

Lolz . . .

IN OTHER WORDS . . . YET AGAIN NOBODY IS GOING TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A KANSAS CITY BUDGET SCREW-UP THAT'S WORTH TENS OF MILLIONS!!!

And this might be the best example of why Kansas City doesn't deserve local control of police if they can't even manage a budget for a local police station.

  1. So the real oat of the new airport will be closer to $2B.

  2. Money quote:

“I’m not going to second-guess what somebody should have done,” Mayor Sly James said when asked how the original $57 million budget for the East Patrol complex mushroomed to an estimated $74 million.

In other words, Mayor James has no interest in either the integrity of the City's capital improvement process or in accountability for those making multi-million dollar decisions with tax dollars.

At the same time, Mayor James wants a new toy train, a new airport, a new convention hotel, local control of the police department, and a stronger role for the Mayor in City government.

Perhaps it's time for one of those "adult discussions" the Mayor is so fond of....

  3. Pathetic response, Mr. Mayor. Absolutely pathetic.

  4. So halt the project right now and stop ripping off the tax payers! Like that is ever going to happen. Seems to me if ol' Sly baby wants to fight crime he would start right here. Lining those pockets cost a lot of money these days.

  5. Give the Mayor a break. His hands are tied on this one. He had a budget and it went over what more can a guy do. He said stop killing each other, they didn't listen. Damn being Mayor is hard but at least he tried. Tony please invent a word to describe how completely worthless and incompetent city leadership is. Our current language does not currently have one to describe this level of ineptness.

  6. That's right, 10:23. It's not like the Mayor should expect to get an ACCURATE budget in the first place.

Or that he might ask the City Auditor or City Manager to look into the cause of the discrepancy and whether the City's process, models and assumptions for estimating capital construction projects are valid.

Or that he could put City staff and their hired consultants on notice by saying, "I don't know what happened, but it damn well better not happen again."

No, it's just business as usual at City Hall. Just like with the JJ Inferno- never interested in holding the fuck ups accountable.

  7. The Mayor promised that Kyle would be featured on Jay-Z's Magna Carta and look what that cost.

  8. I heard it was the gay officers bath house that was causing all the overuns

  9. It's 17 million and counting over budget. It's not like they painted the building the wrong color. This is the very definition of incompetence and why you should not approve any more tax increases.

  10. Try to buy property to build a fast food joint and you get the same problems.

  11. The first comment is 100% corredt. Our Mayor is an embarassment. Show some guts and lift back the curtain, MayorSly, or are you afraid of what the people will discover if you do? Step aside so someone with the guts to challenge the status quo can become Mayor and treat the taxpayer's money as if it was his/her own, and not let millions in waste, incompetence (and corruption?) pass without even batting an eye. Disgraceful. Weak. Complicit?

  12. How do i get a contract with the city? I could parlay fifty bucks into a massive retirement fund in no time.

  14. What Sly really said is - I have not intention of holding anyone accountable. They might turn on me and start outing me.

  15. How much power do you think a mayor has over corruption?

Just managing the violence as a result of the corruption is overwhelming.
