A conversation with a KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDER revealed a surprising trend at City Hall that should offer some interesting developments over the next couple of years.
The statement was simple and clear: "The honeymoon is finally over."
To wit . . .
THE CITY COUNCIL FINALLY SEEMS TO BE STANDING UP TO MAYOR SLY FOLLOWING A SERIES SLIGHTS AND BULLY TACTICS!!!
No, it looks like there isn't going to be any bowling sessions in the near future for Mayor Sly and the City Council.
And this isn't just hearsay, here are some facts to back it up:
THE CITY COUNCIL STANDS AGAINST MAYOR SLY'S MOVE TO CHANGE THE CHARTER TO A 'STRONG MAYOR' FORM OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT!!!
Mayor Sly's strongest supporters floated the idea and they were almost universally rejected by the Council with the not so notable exception of Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Circo who isn't allowed to have her own opinion any longer.
MAYOR SLY HAS BEEN MAKING APPOINTMENTS AND FORMING COMMITTEES WITH MINIMAL INPUT FROM THE CITY COUNCIL!!!
City Council has favors to return as well and the Mayor is much more accustomed to handing down orders than looking for ways to cooperate or collaborate with the Council.
The appointment of a KCPD Local Control Coordinator and the Charter Commission without even a note to City Council were seen as nothing less than an insult to Council from Mayor Sly.
Best of all . . .
BEHIND THE SCENES: CITY COUNCIL IS TIRED OF TAKING THE FALL FOR MAYOR SLY'S BAD IDEAS!!!
Since he took office, Mayor Sly has been functioning like an executive and assigning ordinances and projects for the City Council to push forward. Council Dude Scott Wagner has dutifully taken marching orders and endured more than a few public smackdowns for his trouble. Now there's word that as reelection season approaches, the Council is tired of being treated like employees of the Mayor and they seem to want more influence and input into the legislative process heretofore completely controlled by Mayor Sly during this political epoch.
Notice that Councilman Reed is no longer afraid to publicly debate with Mayor Sly there haven't been as many volunteers to carry the Mayor's water on new issues.
Reality has sunk in and a major hit to Mayor Sly's popularity on the Airport and Streetcar issues have the Council rethinking their blind allegiance and questioning the Mayor's strong arm tactics.
Developing . . .
This would have been better news if it happened 6 months ago.

ReplyDeleteWELCOME TO DETROIT
Kansas City voters are stupid
Do we have a city council? I thought they were trying to play vegetables to Sly's Maggie Thatcher.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! What took them so long.
ReplyDeleteHow did a Black man become mayor
ReplyDeleteKing Kong will just snag Cindy Circo and drag her to the top of the Power and Light if he doesn't get his way. Then what?
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will both jump!
ReplyDeleteGood.
ReplyDeleteBlind allegiance to a power hungry mayor and his pals is how we turned our cities into third world countries. Drive across the river to KCK and see how a mayor becomes a millionaire.
ReplyDeleteSaw it coming on all sides. Time to heal wounds for the sake of Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteMilton Friedman smiles from the grave.

ReplyDeleteGo to Carrabba's in OP, he (Kyle) was working there a week ago....busing tables.
ReplyDeleteB/c Sly is getting his marching orders from somewhere else and they don't like they aren't included. It's about damn time they spoke up. Problem is - it may be too late. Choo Choo and dig up that airport fast.
ReplyDeleteyou start talking about illiterate children people hear more home invasions around the corner
ReplyDeleteWe have to keep KC's wealthy happy. We have to get those development deals made and contracts passed out.
ReplyDeleteSly doesn't seem like a bully at all. I think it's just Tony reacting negatively to the bow tie.
ReplyDeleteThen again, when is the last time the mayor was at a community meeting?
1:42 - talk to any staff at the City - he's a BULLY!
ReplyDeleteHe's no bully, instead, he just seems to be another negro, who's caught up in the tribe mentality of "I'm the king here and you shall obey". Fuck him and the white horse he rode in on!
ReplyDeleteI have no respect for Kansas City city hall. From the mayor to the council. Its ok however time will soon tell. Kick all their asses out. And yes Councilman Micheal Brooks we are starting with you pastor.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm off to Carrabas tonight. Yum.....
ReplyDeleteDoes a strong mayor form of government mean no dumb ass city manager?
