TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! WESTSIDE RESIDENTS RAGE AS MoDOT TURNS DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOOD INTO DUMPING GROUND!!!
MoDOT has bungled traffic control in Downtown Kansas City and now they're actively blighting a neighborhood with dangerous debris from their ill-conceived construction project.
On the bright side, both the new gentry and old school residents have united in order to call out MoDOT's dangerous dumping on Kansas City's Westside.
Just to offer a bit of perspective . . .
CHECK OUT MoDOT DUMPING IN A KANSAS CITY RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD AND EXPOSING RESIDENTS TO DANGEROUS DEBRIS!!!
These photo clearly show how close MoDOT dumping comes to this vibrant Kansas City neighborhood.
Sadly . . . Whenever I mention the Westside, some d-bag hillbilly from a trailer in the sticks reveals their stereotypes and the fact that they're out of the loop . . . In reality, Kansas City's Westside is one of the most eclectic neighborhoods in the metro and combines working-class housing stock with art galleries, new restaurants and more traditional fare from longstanding Latino merchants. MoDOT construction is in the process of destroying a great deal of this progress and killing organic economic growth in Kansas City with this toxic mess.
There's an effort to reach out to our two Council Members but they've spent most of their tenure so far screwing with the Toy Train Streetcar rather than listening to residents - Following the arrogant example of Mayor Sly James.
So . . . This blog post is simply a way to record the dumping ground that has caused so many residents to rage.
As if these pix aren't bad enough, we have more reporting on this mess as soon as the weather heats up a bit.
For now, this is just a reminder to mainstream media newsies that KANSAS CITY'S URBAN CORE IS NOT A DUMPING GROUND despite suburbanite stereotypes.
Still . . . I guess to garner interest . . . It's worth nothing that this dumping is close to the Crossroads as well and those condo/loft dwellers complain even louder than most residents.
DEVELOPING . . .
You think that's bad, TKC? Just wait until streetcar construction starts!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some construction work being done to me on the bridge.
ReplyDeleteGuess I will have to go check this out then call local news teams to come see what TKC is calling illegal dumping instead of progress of some sort.
you forgot to mention the westside has delish coffee and a cool airplane,
ReplyDeleteLook Tony de plane, come have some coffee as we watch de plane land.
ReplyDeleteThis really is a shame. They couldn't get away with this in Waldo.
ReplyDeleteIdiot, that's because Waldo has higher voter turnout.
ReplyDeleteTony, if "under a bridge" is "residential neighborhood" then the Westside has bigger problems that construction debris left on site for a few days.
ReplyDeleteCheck back later when this project is done and see if that debris is still there.
And no, this would not happen in Waldo because Waldo doesn't have Interstate highway bridges crisscrossing the neighborhood.
"d-bag hillbilly from a trailer "
ReplyDeleteTony, you had something to say about stereotypes?
Nice sign, residents face fines and jail if they litter but MODOT can dump in our neighborhood with impunity.
ReplyDeleteTony does not like Waldo because when he was regular at The Well, women could not get past he BO that surrounds his person to even find out how the pillows of fat around his groin had made it next to impossible to see anything that remotely looks like a penis anymore. So, Tony has "Waldo Issues."
ReplyDeleteKCMO owns that land, MODOT sold it to them for $1.00. So I would contact Sly's Action Center, 311.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you contact the Action Center you sit through 5 minutes of phone trees offering options where they do not have to end up talking to you. "Did you know you could go to our web site and be forgotten quickly?"
ReplyDeleteVibrant is a code word for trashy and run down so the MoDot garbage should fit right in.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tony's Man-Crush Jason Kander can help?
ReplyDelete8:49: You evidentl;y have access to a computer, so don't call 311. Send them an email at actioncenter@kcmo.org. I send copies to the mayor, the city council, and appropriate news media. Just about all the issues I've reported got taken care of except for the damn sweet gum tree that's tearing up my sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteCity does not care about Westside. Look at the mess at 20th & West Pennway; it has been there forever. Sly doesn't have time to deal with these issues. He has to force a trolley on us.
ReplyDeleteYes where they chose to do this is an issue but the larger issue is that you and I couldn't get away with doing this opennly ANYWHERE in the city.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that they chose what is perceived as a minority neighborhood just shows they know how to play on stereotypes and keep us arguing about race and legal staus when the real issue is...one set of rules for us and one set of rules for them.
He heeee
ReplyDeleteWell I going to Kansas Shitty
ReplyDeleteKansas Shitty here I come!
Don't worry the city's going to clean it up later. ROFLMAO
ReplyDeletethe large delegation of bums living under the bridge praised the added privacy this affords
ReplyDeleteWestside is a real convenient and close by dump for all this construction. Got to keep construction costs down so the favorite sons contractors can put more money in their pockets.
ReplyDeleteIt could also be shady (cheap) sub contract haulers who are supposed to dumping this stuff to an appropriate place. And like everything else City Hall is to busy screwing up or blinded with visions of grandeur to even notice.
ReplyDeleteKansas City's Westside is one of the most eclectic neighborhoods in the metro and combines working-class housing stock with art galleries, new restaurants and more traditional fare from longstanding Latino merchants.
ReplyDeleteJust a matter of time until the RICHard Florida hipsters come in and take over. Then all the above folks who created this will have to leave because they will no long be able to afford living there.
City Leaders could affordably change the name of this area of Westside to some thing more appealing to visitors, perhaps the "Sacred Beach of the Holey Vagigi" in honor of Russ or something.
ReplyDeleteWe won't be safe until everyone at the top in City Hall is institutionalized and completely detoxed from the effect of overdosing on the Richard Florida Hallucinogenic Kool Aid. That means starting with Russ Johnson first. The mayor second, and on down the food chain.
ReplyDeleteSadly . . . Whenever I mention the Westside, some d-bag hillbilly from a trailer in the sticks reveals their stereotypes and the fact that their out of the loop
ReplyDeleteSort of the way when you mention Independence.
"they're"
Or Johnson County.
ReplyDeleteGood gravy, Tony took the story of the Leawood couple whose home got raided by a police tactical squad with assault rifles because they bought something at a hydroponics store, and somehow managed to turn that into "suburbanite whining."
That's a lot of pictures of the same thing. Tony, como se dice 'eclectic' en espanol?

ReplyDelete7:42 AM FTW!!!
Good God man, what better place to dump the crap! I remember beating 'ol West High in football 86-0. Those were the days. Does anybody on the west side even bother to go to high school anymore?

ReplyDeleteYee-haw! Kansas City named second-most redneck city in country
The web site ran a photo of a battered old barn, identifying it as “City Hall in Kansas City, MO, where the rednecks meet to make important legislative decisions.
ReplyDeleteOne KC?
ReplyDeleteThe area should be fenced off but since no suburban white kids are in danger who cares?
ReplyDeleteSo Tonys going to cry because his cousins don't have a place to sleep now. looks like that debris came from right above from where it was deposited to me. Doesn't Craig have another column for you to print? Rather read it than your constant whining about progress.
ReplyDeleteI was in the Westside area a few Months ago. It didn't look so great. I have only been in K.C. for a short while 2 yrs. What area are you talking about that is flourishing and doing so well?
ReplyDeleteIt's a dump. That pile looks right at home in the Westside.
ReplyDeleteI know when my kid's play under freeway overpasses they'd be in hog heaven with all that rebar!!

ReplyDeleteWestside under-bridge clean-up efforts are called, aptly, Spic-and-Span.
