TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY QUESTIONS THE MORAL AUTHORITY OF MAYOR SLY JAMES REGARDING RECENT "TWERK FEST SHOOTOUT" PARENTING ADVICE!!!

Questions regarding the Mayor's moral authority on recent "tough love" parenting advice have created a stir behind the scenes in the world of Kansas City news and politics.

Consider that last year Mayor Sly's son was arrested nearly as many times as Lindsy Lohan which is a rare feat even for an aspiring hip-hop artist.

Let's also stipulate the aspiring hip-hop artist KJ is a young man but acknowledge that at least one victim of the recent Kansas City Twerk Fest Quintuple Shooting was 20 years-old and legally an adult as well.

And so . . .

A COUPLE OF ELITE LOCALS RECENTLY GAVE TKC A SHOUT OUT REGARDING MAYOR SLY'S HYPOCRISY WHEN IT COMES TO HIS HARSH PARENTING ADVICE TO KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS!!!

From our first Kansas City Power Broker Newsie . . .

"Do you not see the irony of the mayor complaining about parents not parenting their teens? Kyle James was a role-model of a young man? Who knew?"

A political reality . . .

"This is why Kyle James' problems are a problem for (Mayor) James. He can't take the moral high ground."

This is important because KJ is a rapper and what's good for his career isn't going to play well in the world of politics. Both KJ and Mayor James have discouraged pundits and media from making comparisons between the two but when it comes to ALLEGATIONS of public fighting, assault and verbal abuse against police officers . . . Media isn't out of line to ask these questions of both public figures amid persistent problems.

Similarly . . . The Mayor's effort to tell other people how to raise their kids and then refusing to speak about his own family life doesn't play well in Kansas City.

A final observation from the local media mover & shaker . . .

"The Mayor seems unwilling to say 'hey I know better than anyone what it's like to deal with messed up kid' . . ."

Now, this newsie communicated with TKC off the record and we're not sure if these questions will come up in subsequent interviews . . . It's worth noting that the last guy who put Mayor Sly on the spot for questions about KJ is no longer working as a newsman.

Finally . . .

ANOTHER KANSAS CITY POLITICAL INSIDER not only reminds us that the Mayor's son was near a fatal shooting last Summer which hasn't been mentioned recently . . . But also . . .

"The fact is, Mayor James is going to have a problem speaking to the issue of parental responsibility as long KJ keeps up his 'hardcore rapper' routine. The Mayor can yell at reporters all he wants, the voting public can easily sniff out the contradiction and it eats away at the Mayor's credibility whether he likes it or not."

So . . . Once again TKC ASKS because Kansas City mainstream media won't . . .

DOES MAYOR SLY HAVE ANY BUSINESS GIVING PARENTING ADVICE TO KANSAS CITY WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING HIS OWN "CHALLENGES" IN THIS AREA?!?!

Also . . .

SHOULDN'T KANSAS CITY MAINSTREAM MEDIA BE ASKING MAYOR SLY ABOUT KJ'S PERSISTENT PROBLEMS AS WELL WHEN A DISCUSSION OF PARENTING ARISES?!?!

Before anybody else and because we (obviously) don't have an editor . . . This question goes out FIRST to the TKC Blog Community.

  1. It's a tough issue to be sure.

Let's discuss it over some fine scotch and cigars.

  2. The way you attack Sly's kid is really pathetic. Do people attack your mom for all of the disgusting things you post on here?

  4. "Mayor James says this type of repeated violence proves young people need more options for things to do, but says creating alternatives isn’t always easy.
“What are they supposed to do? When they go to the Plaza that’s a problem, okay — so what exactly are we expecting these kids to do? Stay at home watch TV? That’s not going to happen,” said James.
Mayor James says in the city where there’s violence there’s not much else.
“It’s not lost on me that a lot of these issues occur on the east side or out south where there is a scarcity of other things, movies, restaurants, jobs, education,” he said.

    NEWSFLASH TO MAYOR JAMES:

Boredom? Seriously? You think these acts of violence are occurring because the kids don't have enough to do? How fucking stupid and out of touch are you?

First, regardless of whether you like to twerk or not, this event was a dance. Isn't THAT something to do? Why the fuck are metal detectors and armed security guards necessary at an event like this in the first place? Think about it.

Second, these kids have had plenty to do over the years. Remember when When Bannister Mall was open and hopping. That had LOTS of things to do. Movies, food, jobs, shopping- you name it. And the reason it is now literally a hole in the ground? Because of kids just like these!!!

They are out of control. They rob, steal, intimidate, threaten, and commit acts of violence. No member of the public wants to be subjected to that. And neither do any business owners. So the businesses close their doors and go on down the road to places where they are safe, welcomed and wanted.

There's plenty to do on the Plaza and in Westport. The reason these kids are run out of there? Because they do not know how to be civil and behave.

And I don't care if you want to talk about Bannister Mall, the Grandview Skating Rink, Ruskin, banquet halls, the Plaza, or even Westport where your kids' friend was killed. It's NOT their presence in these places that causes the problem. It's HOW THEY BEHAVE WHEN THEY'RE THERE!!!

Maybe instead of making excuses for this behavior, you should have the balls to identify the REAL source of the problem. You can start by giving Bill Cosby a call. I KNOW he can answer your question, "What do we expect them to do?"

And until you have the courage to do that, you, sir, are just another part of the problem.

  6. A politician's family is generally kept out of the political meat grinder unless she drags them in to the circle. This "tough parenting" advice from Mayor James is a bit smarmy considering the mayor's kid is a real downer in the moral turpitude scale.
Mayor, you need to run your comments through your advisors. This is another failed attempt to speak directly to the residents of Kansas City. We know you are a step-up from Funkhouser, but just how high is that tread?
Sir, we can't consider your son's youthfulness... he is a whole lot older than some returning Vets.
Is he a disadvantaged, unemployed, under-educated, poor minority youth?
James? Funkhouser? is there a difference?

  7. 9:53 You should Google search "not politically correct". It doesn't mean "stupid fucking dumbshit".

  16. The whole black ghetto culture thing is out of control. Need to start cracking down on this shit not feed it, comfort it, aid it, and give assistance to it.

The white trash culture sucks also but at least they are not being financed and supported by public money.

  17. 9:42 for Mayor!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sly's kid is not a kid. He's an adult and is responsible for his own actions. His actions wouldn't even merit attention if he weren't the mayor's son.

The 13 year olds at this party gone wrong at 3 AM are another story.

  19. White people create!

  20. Definitely parents need to step up to the plate and grow the hell up. The problem you have in this town is that you can't even identify both parents over half the time. Hell KC is prime recruiting ground for the Maury Povich show. If you can't get the parents off drugs, out of the bars and identified how the hell are you going to get them to even fake acting like real parents? In the mean time thousands of single people (without the rug rats) are over paying taxes to build schools so the little thugs have a place to play with their drugs and guns. It ought to be a freaking felony to collect welfare, food stamps, school meals, tuition assistance or medical care without two tax paying parents on record and they should be required to have at least been married to collect social benefits from responsible tax payers. Now Sly might be full of shit in missing the boat with his own kid, who knows, but one thing for sure. This city has an epidemic of hoe ass mothers who are nothing but punk factories for street gangs. Unless someone gets the hell on the stick KC will rank with the worst in no time.

  22. "KANSAS CITY QUESTIONS THE MORAL AUTHORITY OF MAYOR SLY JAMES"

Tony, YOU question the moral authority of the mayor. That does not necessarily mean that "KANSAS CITY" questions it, and if that is so, then produce something more than "I say so" to back it up.

Another bit of advice: Have the courage to own your own questions and opinions without glossing them with "Everybody is questioning . . ." as is your increasing habit.

  23. The mayor is a politician. Nothing more, nothing less.

Acknowledging KJ wouldn't be good for his career. I don't expect the mayor to do so. Kyle is a grown man.

What we need to focus on is the kids and how we can help them. 5 teens shot is 5 too many. That's the place to start and if we can get the schools together with the parents and maybe with some leaders then we should do it and not just look to place blame. We've got to do better.

    ReplyDelete
  24. and here I thought Sly was going to be a good mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's the biggest part of the problem, Ms. Allen.

Holding people accountable for their actions is seen by many as laying blame. Call it what you want, but the first step in helping these children is helping them to see that their choices have consequences.

Make good choices, good consequences will follow. Make bad choices-like going to TWERKFEST until the wee hours of the morning- and bad consequences will follow- likepossibly getting shot.

In any event, these kids need to own the choice (i.e. to be at TWERKFEST) and own the consequences (e.g. They got shot).

Nobody did this to them. They did it to themselves through the choices they made.

  26. Sly Sez "don' be try'n to be playin' dem blame game now, ya hey'ah?"

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't disagree with you completely. I'm just saying that teens don't always make the right choices and that's why the parents and the schools need to step up. I don't think the Mayor can be expected to help the situation.

It starts with parents and then schools because that's where kids learn the most. We need to address that situation before we get into politics as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  28. why don't we see this trouble at white and haspanic partys. its called self respect

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kids learn the most from the home/parent. not the school. at home is where they learn right from wrong. in too many cases the parent doesn't support the school so the kid doesn't even learn simple math. bill cosby comes to town, speaks to the kids, school officials claim this will make a difference. reality...kids see it as entertainment and a way out of class. sounds like a success story to me
