TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! CURSE OF THE THIRD TERM!!! JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE SANDERS FACES A BEVY OF CHALLENGERS!!! WILL HE RUN?!?

Recently, talk of an upcoming election has been circulating through the grapevine of Kansas City politics.

To wit . . .

ALREADY THE NEXT RACE FOR JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE LOOKS TO BE A HOT MESS!!!

And this makes the next political move for Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders all the more interesting . . .

Let's take a glimpse at the contenders who are already coming up in a race where the campaign starts sooner than local politics think . . .

I've asked around and heard from insiders . . . Not for a second does anybody believe that Outgoing Missouri State Senator Victor Callahan is going to hang up his spurs and become a lobbyist. His war chest is HUGE and just like the current County Exec - His Eastern Jack support is strong . . . Probably stronger than Mike Sanders at this point. More importantly, Mr. Callahan isn't afraid of stepping on Democrat toes in a primary election fight. Like it or not, Mr. Callahan is the top contender for a Jackson County Executive Challenge.

County government has always been a starting point for outsiders and political neophytes to begin their election hopes . . . To wit, former Chiefs footballer Deron Cherry is not only active in politics and civic issues but his connection to The Chiefs would ease tensions over recent stadium spats. Let's not forget that time and time again JaxCo Exec Mike Sanders hasn't endeared himself to African-American political leadership in Jackson County. So, a strong cash connection and nearly a built in voting bloc makes might power Mr. Cheery into the local political arena.

Finally, most think Theresa Garza Ruiz will use her support in the Ward Parkway corridor and City Hall to make a run at the County Exec job. High name recognition and top level political connections could be her secret to success.

And then . . .

LET'S NOT FORGET THE JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE THIRD TERM CURSE!!!

Third terms have always proven disastrous in Jackson County. There are a lot of examples but the career of Katheryn Shields always stands out.

People forget that she had a great deal of momentum as a powerful, local political lady until a consistent string of bad press and a mortgage hot mess took her out of Kansas City's political scene. The career of Katheryn Shields confirms the Jackson County Executive Third Term Curse and might provide a reason for Mike Sanders to look elsewhere for his political future.

And so . . .

Congressman Cleaver doesn't look like he retiring anytime soon as some have suspected.

However . . . A Mike Sanders run for Missouri Attorney General as Current AG Chris Koster moves on is an option that's now gaining an increasing talk.

Whatever the case . . . We know that the JaxCo Third Term Curse and the likelihood of a great deal of competition should give County Exec Mike Sanders a moment of pause as he calcuates his next move.

DEVELOPING . . .

Comments

  1. You forgot about a state senate seat. Missouri likes musical chairs.

  2. 1. Koster lives in Jefferson City. And even if that residency issue doesn't matter, it would be hard to believe he would run for Jackson Count Executive instead of governor.

    2. Yes, Victor Callahan will almost certainly run against Sanders. He will be a formidable.

    3. That would provide an opening for a non-Eastern Jackson County candidate. Maybe Jason Kander if he loses to Schoeller.

Also, didn't Tony predict that Bill Skaggs would run against Ryan Silvey? What happened to that?

  3. Callahan's big Indep School District win over KCMO impressed everyone. Cherry is very likeable and Sanders has done a good job. In a dog fight it goes to the Big Dog. Callahan wins.

  4. Mikes enemies will assure him a opposition. He has not made to many friends except for Steve Boo his bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  5. And none of this will make any difference to the residents of the county who could certainly benefit from some above-board copetent government.
Just the usual JaxCo swirl of politicos looking for the next taxpayer-funded gig to land.

  6. Callahan is a thug and voters realize it, and won't vote for him, regardless of how much money the deviant has!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Cherry, please!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm giving money to Sanders' opponent, whoever it is.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Can anyone make some news. Other than sports and politics?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sanders will need money while he has been running around as party chair others are stockpiling money.

    ReplyDelete
  11. What about Beto I hear he is thinking of running also.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sanders has to make a decision fast before others do.One thing is sure he will have a tough reelection.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You can only stay County Executive for so long and if you look at those who have not beaten the curse his future is not bright so enjoy your fifedom ,it's coming to a close.

    ReplyDelete
  14. He can always be Mayor of independence.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Callahan would stomp Sanders. Voters may know Victor is a thug, but they also know he will actually DO something.

And Cherry is a Republican who sells alcohol for a living. His connection to the Chiefs will make him lose those voters pissed about the stadium deal or those concerned about the fox watching the hen house. I seriously doubt Cherry can win.

Garza can't win either, and she would do well to look at what happened to Crystal when she got big headed and power hungry.

The AG talk is just a blustery diversion by Sanders as he tries to try to flush out his potential opponents. That way he'll know if he needs to cut a deal or not (a cushy no-show job at the county, perhaps?). He'll leave it out there just in case he runs into problems either with weak financial support or a strong opponent.

No, it will be Callahan. The rest is just posturing by those fishing for a deal from Sanders.

  16. How foolish all the above comments are. Do you not know a ton of deals will be made before the filing is complete.

You people are really bereft of knowledge and experience in politics. Much has to be weighed and assessed before anyone will take on an incumbent. Do you think for one minute Callahan will not weigh how much he has to spend to take Sanders down against what he can gain in his campaign chest.

Callahan has bigger plans and he is smirking as he reads your statements about him.

I guess speculation makes for some news but is really a waste of time at this juncture. Except Garza does not have a chance in hell.

  17. I think with Callahans 750000 per the financial diclosure he has thought it out and has the money.

    Mr. Tony,
I hope and pray that Mr. Sanders gracefully exits public office and public life. He is such a disappointment as a politician. Sanders' obsessive need to be in the public eye is unnerving and rude. I do not like Mike.
Should Sen. Victor Callahan choose to run I will support his candidacy wholeheartedly. Sen Callahan would not have to spend much of his colossal war chest to chase tsetse fly Sanders from office. Sanders' appearances to his office are akin to the Albino hummingbird spotted in the area this summer- rare.
The likely candidate is Ms Teresa Garza Ruiz. I can support her if she chooses to really take on this dog fight.

  19. zzzzzzzz...

  20. I'm surprised that commenter hasn't suggested Beth for County Executive.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The point is 1035 that someone will run.And I am sure Mike will make some other run not to incur Victor rath.Too bad for Mike there are term limits in the State it forces people in his race.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Theresa is waiting if Victor does not run either way a tough race against someone under 80.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Theresa's career is over. She will be lucky to remain on the legislature. Watch.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Senator Callahan is a man of action and character. Some people mistake knowledge and determination as being brutish behavior, but results do not lie.

    ReplyDelete
  25. All I know is I would rather have an acid douche before having the chubby infidelity queen Garza as County Exec or County dog catcher.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hope Congressman Cleaver remains in place for several terms, but if not I'm sure Mike is licking his chops and wants that seat. Vic has represented his constituents well in JC. Love TGR, but not sure she can beat Mike or Vic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Miss Sweetie Pie speaks the truth. Mike needs to read that comment again and again and realize how much he's pissed off those who put him there.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Although I wouldn't support Garza, contrary to Ms. Pie.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Victor would like nothing more than to publicly slap Mike Sanders.

    Nobody doubts that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Garza Ruiz vs. Victor? That should be uncomfortable for her husband.
