A quick thought for this evening . . .
Jeremy Ploeger is a Kansas City businessman, he's politically active and he's helping to revitalize the West Bottoms with his new professional indoor football franchise.
Mr. Ploeger deserves a lot more press than what he's getting.
At any other point in Kansas City's history he would be a media darling. Sadly, corporate content distributors and timid newsies based in the suburbs don't realize the magnitude of Mr. Ploeger's efforts.
Unlike so many large corporations or real estate developers: He's really not getting the royal treatment from City Hall in terms of tax breaks or subsidies. While I'm sure there is some consideration, it's not nearly as much as this town has offered for other business ventures.
More importantly, Mr. Ploeger genuinely seems to care about Kansas City sports fans and residents of the urban core.
"It is a true honor to be able to bring a top caliber indoor professional football team to Kansas City. Football is everything to our city," Ploeger said. "That is why I guarantee that when you, your family, or friends, come to Kemper Arena to watch our team play, you will have a great time."
It's a nice sentiment. More importantly . . . .
Mr. Ploeger's brand of sports ownership and political activism is something that reminds us of old school Kansas City movers and shakers who also understood the importance of civic involvement.
So often local media is willing to celebrate any hipster art project or lost cause involving pets . . .
Meanwhile, guys like Jeremy Ploeger are often overlooked because they hold strong political opinions, they aren't afraid to shake things up and they're willing to take risks. Mr. Ploeger is a classic Kansas City success story and his efforts remind us of a nearly forgotten time in this town's history when successful business people earned community standing by way of their accomplishments rather than simply because of the their various affiliations.
TKC was thrilled to BREAK THIS STORY and preview what could be a significant biz, sports and cultural development for this town. But in the aftermath . . .
We hope Jeremy Ploeger is successful with his football team and we invite local media people to pay more attention to up and coming Kansas City power player.
Nice shot.
ReplyDeleteJust what we need. More sports.
ReplyDeleteThis will last maybe one season and lose somebody a bunch of money. Then the team won't be able to pay the city the rent due on Kemper and the taxpayers will have to pick up the tab.
ReplyDeleteAbout time for an emergency meeting to pass the ordinance transferring the new taxes you just approved from the community centers to this farce.
Next!
Who is this Ploeger guy?
ReplyDeleteI like the cut of his jib!
Best of luck to Jeremy, he is a good guy.
ReplyDeleteHoly shit T, are you gonna swallow too? This guy ain't Lamar Hunt, Ewing Kauffman or even David Schoenstadt. Keep some perspective.
ReplyDeleteJeremy is crazy. MD Alam crazy.
ReplyDeleteLike Tony would ever pony up for a ticket to see that. I'll bet with a few more dick suckins like this post he can expect a few free passes.
ReplyDeleteIf Ploeger is involved there has to be mob ties. The world's easiest Pulitzer goes to the reporter who finds the connection first.
ReplyDeleteYou guys don't get it. Tony respects mob ties and guys who came up without doing white collar crime. They're a lot more honest than these corporate crooks you've got running KC.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with some hard fought success.
The latina standing left of Jeremy is good to go. Let's see a LOT more of her.
ReplyDeleteMob ties? Really? Maybe he's just a hard working guy that really does have good intentions. Try being a optimist and enjoy another reason to be proud of your city! Its a great effort to bring business here and give KC familys something to do!
ReplyDeleteNot everyone is so enamored of this guy.

Judging from the article, it may be beneficial to consult Mr. Kander for an opinion.
Give it a rest!
ReplyDeleteA car salesman. Could it get any richer?

ReplyDeleteCar salesman? So, is he a partner with the RIzzos?
His campaign finance reports were a mess. Some quarters he only received contributions from one guy, a gas station owner, and he spent the money on "lunch" and clothing.
ReplyDeletePloeger did a turn on Calvin and now Tony's doing a turn on Ploeger who must of dumped a hot load that Tony could not refuse in order to create 2conjoured puff pieces for a loser.
ReplyDeleteComped tickets will full cocktail and snack bar bennies at every home game will get a beaner's attention.
ReplyDeleteIf mob is involved it explains why some said Moreno was there.
ReplyDeleteThese sort of enterprises rarely work. Unless they are fantastic, I can't imagine anyone going to Kemper to watch them.
ReplyDeleteThe T-Bones and Mavericks are exceptionally well run minor league franchises. They are beating the odds.
When I saw those ladies, I thought perhaps it was a team for the Lingerie League. That might work.
The good thing is that a goofy looking guy gets to have a bunch of hot women (most of whom are taller than him) stand close to him.
This ain't real. J&M Management isn't even registered with the Missouri Secretary of State. And can anyone provide an address for their office? Google can't.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? Jeremy Ploeger has a criminal record a mile long, and he's 'running' a sportsteam? Probably a front for money laundering.
ReplyDeleteJealousy seems to be at all time high on this blog..........losers.
