TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! IS IT TIME FOR THE KCPD CHIEF TO TAKEOVER OFTEN VIOLENT KANSAS CITY PARKS?!?
Here's an important bit of perspective regarding our beleaguered Kansas City parks.
Right now, Northeast Rep. John Rizzo has a bit of legislation in the works that would give greater authority to the KCPD Chief when it comes to parks and policing.
Check out HB 1360 . . . Here's the most important part:
"Authorizes the Kansas City Chief of Police to determine whether city parks should remain open between specified times in the interest of public safety"
It seems nearly as simple easy to focus on as Diora Baird in a bikini trimming hedges.
In Northeast and all over Kansas City there are more than a few parks that DESPERATELY need more security and this simple reg offers a way to effectively direct enforcement in way that's determined by local police.
Example of why this bill might be needed from just this week in local news: Man Shot and Killed at Kansas City Park. The murder was in broad daylight but nobody can tell me that urban core parks in Kansas City get safer at night.
So, while everyone is working to fight for a bigger part of the budget . . . This Missouri House Bill might do something even more important and help to make Kansas City Parks safer.
Slowly Kansas City is becoming a Police State.
ReplyDeleteWhy Obama's latest executive order is scary.

Great! Now KCPD can be responsible for preventing crime in our city, forcing children to attend classes, keeping kids off the Plaza, and opening and closing the city parks. Then we'll all complain that the city has become a "police state."
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the police department seems to have their hands full with just trying to prevent crime? When are these other city departments/agencies going to step up and do their jobs? Why does it seem that everything falls back on the police to deal with?
KCPD can't even fight crime in Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell it's an election year when even the weakest most ineffective legislators have big ideas for someone to pay for and accomplish.
ReplyDeleteIf Rizzo wants to work on municipal issues, he should run for city council.
9:33,
ReplyDeleteNot when you've got a judicial system like Jackson County dismissing charges or giving lenient punishment for violent crime...
That's right, 9:33.
ReplyDeleteI don't care who is in office, but this type of ordinance is despately needed.
P&R board and staff have buried their collective heads in the sand when it comes to what happens in their parks from midnight to 6 am.
What "murder"?
ReplyDeleteWords do mean something.
From the reports I read, the dead man got a shotgun from his car and approached two men in another car.
If someone gets out of a car and approaches me with a shotgun, after telling him to "drop the weapon," he's dead if he doesn't.
There probably is a lot more to this than we know, but it surely sounds like self-defense to me.
Finally, something the mounted unit could be used for. Up until now, it is the most collassal waste of money in KCMO.
ReplyDeleteKC and St. Louis have two of the highest crime rates in America. What do they both have in common? State control of the police. Get rid of state control and hold the city accountable.
ReplyDeleteThe reason crime is awful is because as a community, we fail to police OURSELVES.
ReplyDelete11:30,
ReplyDeleteNice try, Yael.
i cant speak for st louis but this city turns everything to shit when it gets its hands on something!! i prefer it to keep its shitty hands off the pd
ReplyDeleteCity control of the ambulance service has sure paid off, huh?!?
ReplyDelete11:30,
ReplyDeleteNice try, Yael.
If the city had local control of the PD, for the last four years it would have been run by Funkhouser.
ReplyDeleteBe careful what you wish for!
agree. keep the kc council far away from police.
ReplyDeleteThat's it, give bureaucrats like the KC police chief who answers to nobody more power!
ReplyDeleteYeah, like that punk ass 9:33 said. They can't even fight crime in the city.
ReplyDeleteYeah, good job 9:33 keep it up. That punk ass obviously knows what he is talking about. Errr, well maybe he does. Although he never actually posts anything else other than that. Ok so maybe he's just a dumb ass with a one liner.
Oh well, moving right along.
