TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! UMKC LAW STUDENT CHRIS MILLER COULD BE THE NEXT YOUNG KANSAS CITY POLITICO TO REPLACE JASON KANDER!!!
The Missouri House is a proving ground for young politicos in Kansas City and recently I was lucky enough to meet with a young hopeful who is working toward his law degree and a promising political career.
Now that Jason Kander fights for the Missouri Secretary of State job . . . 25 year-old Chris Miller wants his shot at the Missouri House and believeS he can create continuity for constituents in the 44th District.
Like Kander, Chris Miller wants to make ongoing ethics reform a major part of his legislative work and he has a lot of new ideas about his campaign and a possible new gig in Jeff City when I talked to him recently.
"I think it's important for Kansas City to have young, energetic people who want to represent them," Miller said. "We've seen all the things that Jason Kander accomplished and I would like to continue in that mold."
I talked with Mr. Miller about his experience in politics so far and his basic approach to Missouri problems. He's a progressive Democrat but he really does seem generally excited about what I consider the soul-crushing idea of a campaign that would last almost a year.
"I think this race is won by doing the footwork, walking the district and knocking on as many doors as possible. Nobody is going to work harder than I am and the people of 44th District will see a lot of me in the future," Miller promised.
I believe him but what was also interesting is that this young guy seemed to have an appreciation and balance between classic KC politics and his progressive ideals.
Example: While it's nice that Miller wants to walk the District . . . This is also important . . .
CHRIS MILLER IS SOON TO ANNOUNCE THAT HE HAS ALREADY RAISED $15K IN A MONTH OF CAMPAIGNING!!!
This is the Ward Parkway District so cash is a key component to success.
We expect to see more of Mr. Miller and look forward his campaign.
Here's a bio of the newbie Kansas City politico, profiled first on TKC. Natch. Check it:
Public service has always played a central role in Chris Miller’s personal and professional life. A life long Missourian, Chris attended Truman State University, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science. As a student he seized the opportunity to put his belief in service into action, working for Secretary of State Robin Carnahan in the Missouri General Assembly. In Jefferson City, Chris immersed himself in the legislative process and was in a unique position to work on important issues impacting Missourians like the Safe at Home Act which works to keep the address of victims of domestic violence confidential so that their abusers cannot find them.
Recognition of his commitment and achievements led Chris to serve as president of the Young Democrats of Missouri. During this time, he proved himself as an effective leader, engaging young people statewide and growing the organization’s capacity to connect young voters to the political process.
Shortly after graduating from Truman State, Chris chose to make Kansas City his home, attending the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law. Chris chose UMKC after falling in love with the Kansas City community while working on a statewide campaign in 2007 and 2008. In addition to pursuing a juris doctorate, Chris is also active in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City, volunteering as a mentor for area kids.

Looks effeminent
ReplyDeleteNot enough real world experience. Get out of school, get a job in the real world, and then run for office kid. Maybe then I'll consider voting for you.
ReplyDeleteJust another career politician in the making. Someone who will have never had any real life experience. Will have never worked for a company that sells a product or service to anyone but government. Can't understand basic economics. Nothing but contempt for citizens. Both parties are full of these types. We would get better representation if we drew names from voter rolls.
ReplyDeleteWhat does he think about unsolicited bulk email?
ReplyDeleteChris - you should defintely consider the thoughts of people who spend their whole days on blogs writing anonymous comments while wishing they could do something as ambitious as you are doing. Keep it up - I know what it's like working on a statewide campaign and going to Law School and I'm excited to see how you can use that experience to benefit you in this race. I think it's a breath of fresh air for this city to see a guy like you (and others like you) get interested in politics and run for an office, rather than just assume your entitled to it.
ReplyDeleteJust another lame operative, with no real world experience, that will keep KC sucking hind teet to the rest of the State...think Jolie Justus...what has she done for KC?
ReplyDeleteHe has only lived in 44th district for a month. I could not vote for him because of that reason. Who knows how long he will be living in the 44th! Has no idea of the needs of the 44th district.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for the poor soul that has to run against this young man. Old timers like me don't have the knees to knock on all the doors like this guy will. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteDoor knocking sounds gay.
ReplyDeleteConsidering it's a redistricting year, the amount of time that he's lived in the district is irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteKid is jockeying for a position at a law firm post graduation. Duh....
ReplyDeleteHe should be looking for a job and not getting into politics.
ReplyDeleteno fucking shot. 10k from mommy is not legit fundraising T
ReplyDelete"He's a progressive Democrat" + worked for Robin Carnahan. When will the folks in South KC understand that libs can't run anything? All libs can do is get a cushy government job that allows them to hire other libs. Net accomplished - nothing!

ReplyDeleteDidn't do too well in the spelling department in school, huh?
K.C.Mo. grad, I presume.
He's not related to Dishonest Dan Miller, is he? Kinda see a resemblance.
ReplyDeleteugh, just what the world needs, another politician or lawyer. both are doing so much for our country.
ReplyDeletethis guy looks like the poster child for gay? bi? curious?
ReplyDeletehe's a joke.
ReplyDeletehe used to be a big boy
ReplyDeleteThe voters in the 44th are going to hate this guy. everything they don't want. He doesn't know what he's doing. Can't we get a serious candidate? How about someone who lives in the district for starters?
ReplyDeleteHe just moved into the area... doesn't even own a home in the area... Why is he running... I live in the 44th hope someone else runs I would hate to see a Dem lose the seat!
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad. There are a lot more qualified people than this guy. He will not represent anything but himself and the people deserve better.
ReplyDeletegotta love people who have NO real world experience, but wanna try and tell people who do what to do, he should try and get laid first. then a job and then maybe just maybe run for some type of office.
ReplyDeleteBet he has never ever seen pussy outside a magazine.
Dorkfish
ReplyDeleteSo this guy wants to go into politics? Is that because the circus isn't taking applications?
ReplyDeleteIs he a bottom??? Will he swallow??? If he does he has my vote!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Chris Miller.
ReplyDeleteSome of the comments would lead one to wonder why anyone would want to enter into the world of politics and subject themselves to scrutiny under the bright spotlight. However, Chris Miller obviously wants to do some good in the world, and sees the need to register a position and represent the will of the people through hard work and self sacrifice.
Character, willingness to work hard, and a certain ability to put up with the hassles of public scrutiny are rare traits these days, and should be appreciated where found. Certainly you can find certain of these traits in many individuals, but very rarely can you find the three combined as they seem to be in Chris Miller.
Discounting a person’s ability due to age or appearance does little good when selecting our elected leaders. The character of a man is what should be evaluated. As a big brother to Kansas City area kids, I am sure that Chris Miller can say that he is making a positive difference. How many others can say that they impact their community in such a direct and positive way?
Hard work comes in many forms. Chris Miller is a past president of the Young Democrats of Missouri, and is currently pursing a JD in addition to participating in the big brothers program according to this article. None of these things are easy. How many others put forth this much effort to make a difference in their own personal life, let alone their community?
Hopefully Chris Miller will be evaluated on the merits of his positions, ideas, character, and work ethic. I have no doubt that many of the constituents in the district will have the opportunity to meet Chris Miller face to face, and I hope that he runs into at least a few who can engage in the level of discourse and careful consideration appropriate when selecting an elected representative.
Grizly adams, aka Chris Miller,
ReplyDeleteSolid write up of yourself. Now if only you could get someone else to like you, you will be on your way.
