Channel 9: Voters Approve Zoo Tax Increase
Examiner has the most clever headline: Happy feet at the zoo; sales tax passes in two counties
Before this is spun into "It's really not the will of the people because so few voted," let us remember the famous Harvey Cox quote, "Not to decide is to decide."
ReplyDeleteThe people who DIDN'T vote were not motivated enough by this issue to bother spending the five minutes or less to go to the neighborhood polling place and cast their ballots.
And in not voting, they left the decision up to those who were motivated enough to vote.
True 5:49. I was number 125 at 6:30 last night. Those who stayed home will wake up to find other people raised their taxes and they will be angry and want to occupy the zoo or something but they won't get that it is partly their fault.
ReplyDeleteI'd give anything to fuck that chick.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason to vote in KCMO or Jackson County because tax increases will always pass and crooks will always get elected.
ReplyDeleteOf course now there will be hundreds of thousands of tourists flocking to our zoo, spending money on food and lodging so I suppose things will be great.
Actually, the Henry Doorly Zoo -- which charges a pretty steep admission fee -- in Omaha attracts something like 1.3 million visitors a year.
ReplyDeleteThe St. Louis Zoo attracts 3 million.
The KC Zoo brings in about 700,000 visitors in a good year.
So yeah. With upgrades financed by this sales tax, you could easily see hundreds of thousands of additional visitors to the KC Zoo.
2:28.
ReplyDeleteThe Omaha Zoo isn't tax payer funded. Omaha Zoo Admission is $13.50 for adults and $9 for children. Kansas City is $11.50 for adults and $8.50 for children.
The St. Loius Zoo admission is free.
