Kansas City July First Friday 2011

Let's quickly review that state of Kansas City's art scene this month with a quick look back at the extremely hot Crossroads First Friday . . .

First off, this lady with a rather gully Mohawk was definitely the most interesting person in the crossroads last night.

REACH is one of the most talent and top rappers in all of Kansas City . . . He and his crew were setting up shop in their usual alley spot.

Merchants on the street were selling some art to go but this bit of graffiti caught my eye as much as any painting.

"Family Guy Dog & Suds" sported some rather nice fashions and while I was ordering a hot dog I was surprised to find out that he's a rather talented photog in his own right.

In the alley behind the Keyhole Gallery was the "Treason If the Reason For The Season" painting competition which drew the biggest single crowd of the night.

This painting is my favorite because it seems to capture the sense of fun of the 4th of July weekend event.

I almost hate to admit that there's really no angle of the Kansas City skyline that I don't think is kinda cool.

These rockabilly singers were touting the upcoming Fringe Festival.

Last night seemed to be mostly about street art . . . Maybe because it was too hot to be crowded inside any gallery.

Finally . . . A bit of Kansas City Crossroads diversity . . . I snapped this shot on the go only because I couldn't figure out the theme with 50s era drag queens and their short Mexican companion.

All things considered . . . First Friday July 2011 was a lot more interesting than I anticipated and a surprise that this event is still going strong.
