TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! BEHIND THE SCENES WITH FORMER KANSAS CITY STAR MOVIE DUDE ROBERT BUTLER AND HIS NEW BLOG!!!
Over the weekend I was blessed to be selected as one of the judges for Kansas City's Independent Filmmaker's Coalition "One Night Stand" short movie contest.
Even better, it was fantastic meeting some of the artists using the world's most powerful artform to put Kansas City on the map in global cinema community.
It was a GREAT CROWD and Screenland Armor was near capacity with moviemaking hopefuls, their supporters and actors.
Former Kansas City Star writer Robert Butler was a veteran judge of the event and is one of the most respected names in the local independent movie scene.
Luckily, we were able to talk just a bit about his new blog:
Butler's Cinema Scene
His bloggy venture is already making waves and, in typical blogger fashion, one of his posts was recently poached without a link-back from former mainstream media colleague. Still Bulter remains confident about the future of his online endeavor.
"It's a great way to keep publishing that was never available to me previously," Butler said. "The response that I've received has been great and it's allowed a stage of sorts to help me put together other projects that I can incorporate into the context of the blog."
Clearly, Bulter is keeping busy after life at The Star, he's planning a partnership with the K.C. Public Library and might even incorporate video reviews into his repertoire.
BUT WHAT'S IMPORTANT ABOUT BUTLER'S NEW BLOG IS THAT ONE OF KANSAS CITY'S GREATEST MOVIE RESOURCES HASN'T BEEN SILENCED AFTER LEAVING THE LOCAL DAILY DEAD TREE MEDIA OUTLET . . . HE SIMPLY CHANGED HIS "LOCATION" AND TOOK HIS GAME TO THE INTERNETS!!!
Leaving The Star didn't end Butler's ability to write AMAZING reviews or share his knowledge about local movie news . . . Instead, his content remains available to anyone in the world with Internet connection and a desire to get their movie information from one of the most knowledgeable and respected sources in all of Kansas City.
Bob is just as nice of a guy as there can be in media. I wish him the best. 41 fucking years and the Star drops him on his ass.
ReplyDeletePoor guy. Reduced to the pathetic status of blogger.
ReplyDeleteThats sad.
Let me guess some Perez Hilton type (or worse) will replace Butler.
ReplyDeleteNope, it "didn't end Butler's ability to write AMAZING reviews..." but it might have ended his ability to make money from it. Though that doesn't matter as long as he can get an apartment in his mom's basement.
ReplyDeleteWhile at that horrible dead-tree KC Star, he at least got paid.
ReplyDeleteThere are no ads on the blog, so I assume this is sort of a hobby.
Funny how nobody can make any money writing on the internet.
Butler is a great guy. I'm making his blog a regular read. Thanks Tony.
ReplyDeleteDead Blog Media is next up.
ReplyDeleteTony judged the soft porn category.
ReplyDeleteThe category that produces an endless diet of super-hero movies to pubescent males who are not expected to develop normal adult coping powers had a secret judging panel.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Butler's reviews over the years. The "special to the Star" reviewers (i.e., freelance) just aren't cutting it for me.
ReplyDeleteDigital delinquents-idiots are running amok on the InterWebs - Blogs with no end in sight . . If Bob can get through all the noise is the question. Thats the challenge.
ReplyDeleteWell, hard to imagine doing a movie blog without graphics and youtubes. He needs to learn this medium before I'll link to him.
ReplyDeleteProblem is he might destroy his hard earned reputation by linking in to the Kansas City blogspot clique.
ReplyDeleteBest to avoid the like-dislike button so adolecents with too much time on their hands don't click their friends idiotic comments 201 times so it stays "most popular".
ReplyDeleteSomeone is really soreassed at the adolescents this morning.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is really lucrative. If Bob uses adsense he might get lucky, hit the jackpot and and earn $25 a month.
ReplyDeleteI attended a local festival last Friday night, the usual type with lots of rides for the kids and carnies pushing stupid games with no takers. The real shocker was the fact that you couldn't tell the carnies from the crowd. Almost every person was covered in tattoos, obese and ugly as sin. The kids were as horrifying as the adults where all the boys were dressed up like gang-bangers and the girls looked like drug addicted whores. If that's the future, then there isn't much of one.
ReplyDelete09:12 Someone's been reading Kunstler's Klusterfuck America again. I'm a weekly attender of those services as well, my friend.
ReplyDeleteSenate bill 978 – a bill to amend the criminal penalty provision for criminal infringement of a copyright, and for other purposes – may be used to prosecute people for embedding YouTube videos. If a website embeds a YouTube video that is determined to have infringed on copyright and more than 10 people view it on that website during any 180-day period, of 1 or more copyrighted works, the owner or others associated with the website could face up to five years in prison.
ReplyDeleteI understand Arianna is still looking for bloggers. No pay but you get the "privilage" of being a Fluffington Post blogger.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Butler is smart enough to look for other opportunities besides "blogging" and tweeting into the wind hoping someone is noticing.
ReplyDeletebutler will win.
ReplyDeleteButler is now, and always has been my favorite movie critic.
ReplyDeleteHis blog is really cool, and I think his reviews will actually be far better than in the past.
No one will look over his shoulder. Best wishes Bob!!
