TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! OVERLAND PARK MAKES POLSINELLI SHUGHART PC A $4 MILLION OFFER TO MOVE FROM THE PLAZA!!!

Kansas continues to go after business in Kansas City proper with a vengeance.

Check it:

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TELL US THAT OVERLAND PARK JUST MADE A SWEET OFFER TO POLSINELLI SHUGHART PC REGARDING A MOVE THAT WOULD TAKE EVEN MORE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES TO OVERLAND PARK AND OUT OF KC PROPER AT THE COST OF A MERE $4 MILLION!!!

And while local politicos running for office want to blame Kansas incentives and policy at The State Level . . . It looks like our middle-class busybody residents might be a big part of the problem in this instance as well.

To wit . . .

THE DORKS WHO WANT TO "SAVE THE PLAZA" MIGHT LITERALLY BE DRIVING A LAW FIRM OUT OF KANSAS CITY GIVEN SO MUCH OBSTINATE CRITICISM!!!

Face it, these dorks are never going to be satisfied.

So, $4 million (to start) and much more friendly building rules and regs make the move VALUED AT $70K PER PLAZA OFFICE LAWYER a viable option.

Meanwhile, whether it's shooting in the urban core or bad business sense in Midtown . . . The people of Kansas City seem hell bent on their own self-destruction.

  1. Crime, high unemployment, poor infrastructure, poor City Hall,
who would not want to leave.

  2. This is a ploy by POLSINELLI SHUGHART PC to get what they want and more from the City for their Plaza project. Call their bluff, let them go! The worst case scenario is KC would be rid of a bunch of development lawyers.

    Ditto.

And lets not forget the self serving idiots who'd rather save the Plaza/KC skyline from any changes (Kansas City Place/American Century). As in Mary O'Halloran, Steve Glorioso, along with many other historical society idiots hellbent on preserving a historical vision of our city instead of promoting growth and change necessary to compete with any other city. So, businesses will continue to flock to the Kansas suburbs while KCMO will continue to decline.

  4. Who owns the Plaza? I wouldnt do any business with KC.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Agree. Ploy.

  6. This is pure BS.
First of all - how many of the Posinelli attorneys are licensed in Kansas? Very few.
Secondly - there is no reciprocity between MO and KS for a law license.
Third - what is the cost associated with preparing this many attorneys to take the bar? High.
Fourth - what is the amount of billable hours lost to the firm while their attorneys are in class or studying?
    Very Very High.
Threats to move or offers such as this are just smoke they are using distract us.

Using your logic its also clear that Johnson county is on the decline while KCMO gains. Please! Nice try-but you're off the mark.

  8. Ok, so OP wants to pay a bunch of money for more lawyers. Bye bye! While Kansas is cutting education to the bone and beyond, they sure seem to find money to float bonds for any rich corporation that asks. Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah, let's get rid of the law firms and cater to special interests. What could possibly go wrong? A little advice, just like the Obama and the unions have learned, now would be a good time for all special interests to lie low. You'll have plenty of time to catch up with the begging and whining. Right now we need to take care of the people that pay your taxes.

  10. Sanders Buddy Could Make Millions2/9/11, 9:00 AM

I hear that Mike Sanders's buddy Bob Mayer stands to make millions if this OP deal goes through. Mayor is a big developer in OP, who has suffered huge losses on speculative real estate deals.

His pal Mike "Mr. Conflict of Interest" Sanders has been helping out Bob Mayer with county fund support for some of Bob's JaCo real estate. What's more, Sanders keeps Bob Mayer's wife Sandy on the County payroll and benefits, even though she cannot really do any work because of her brain cell deficit. I sure hope Bob and Sandy and Mikey disclose all their conflicts of interest real soon. Even the patronage arrangement that pays Sandy close to 100K a year for no work.

Its called an investment. Keep Kansas attornies working at the expense of Missouri. Ks taxbase grows-bonds are paid. Not to mention every state in the union is cutting education to the bone and beyond.

I hear that rumors make great conspiracy theories.

    ReplyDelete
  13. People have always wondered why any one would hire Sandy Mayer, so it may not be a conspiracy theory -- it may be an explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The rascals from Kansas are at it again.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 7:33: Agree 100%. Let's not forget the Plaza is not "our" Plaza. It's private property. And it began as a shopping center--a monument to commercialism, for heaven's sake. 50 years from now will people be protesting changes to Oak Park Mall???

    ReplyDelete
  16. I do not think there is a question that Bob Mayer is up to no good generally so it is quite believable that he is trying to profit behind the scenes here.

It is pathetic how sanders keeps Sandy on the public payroll as a payback to a dirty developer like Bob.

Mansur should look into the conflicts in the Mayer/Sanders relationship.

  17. Anne McGregor supports businesses leaving Kansas City.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's a total bluff. Polsinelli isn't going anywhere. This is Highwoods lawyers, Husch Blakwell, trying to force the City agree to more crappy suburban buildings in the crown jewel of the City. All you scumbag, bloodsucking lawyers should be ashamed of yourselves!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bob Mayer has been desparate for years since he lost most of his cash in a community bank failure. He needs Sandy's income from te county and a promise of a retirement income. He would do anything for money, and Sanders is just the type of corrupt politician who would work with Bob and Sandy Mayer.

  20. Midtown in general could benefit from a mass exodus of people fleeing to the plasticized burbs.

Less traffic, noise, pollution, crazies, and all the rest of the crap all this so called "growth" has produced.

    Lawyers? Shame?

    Now thats rich!

Yes, lets discourage any progress on the Plaza. That'll keep KCMO prosperous. Let all the old folks look out their windows to see the old school Plaza fade away from existance.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Who is Bob Mayer?

    ReplyDelete
  23. What the Plaza needs is more suburban influenced franchise style strip mall shops. A Walmart or Costco and the obligatory Burger King and Wendys and McDonalds on each corner. Oh and a Home Depot.

    That will bring prosperity.

    ReplyDelete
  24. We need these guys to stay put.

Legions of well dressed lawyers populating the Plaza for years to come, spending money, buying suits, booze, parking BMWs on the street.

    Its tradition.

Think of the business built in down there.

Wrongful death litigation from Plaza Flash Mob attacks.

Badly burned victims of expensive coffee spills.

    Hell yeah they're stayin!!

  25. 2/9/11 10:07 AM

Nobody is suggesting adding the chain stores you mention to the Plaza. A building full of taxpaying lawyers earning the city and state revenues is quite a different proposal. The building, along with the business model all fits into the Plaza.

He is a third rate real estate investor with first rate dreams.

Bob Mayor married into a politically powerful Hispanic Family, who enriched themselves through political contracts and grants of public money.

Bob Mayer thinks he is someone, but he just lives off other peoples' scraps.

If he is involved in this deal at all then you can be sure that his role is crooked as hell. He has no ability. He is just willing to do whatever the crooks need done.

He brings no money to the table. The use of Sanders for patronage to employ his wife and access benefits is completely accurate.

  30. This article is perfect for those of us who ask “Who’s dumber, City Hall or the thousands who follow it's every move?” – only to realize we’re part of the problem precisely because we’re even asking this question.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really, let them go? Then whine about businesses moving across the state line? Kc is shooting themselves in the foot...we'll soon be dead.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @8:10am Get your facts straight. The majority of Polsinelli attorneys are licensed in both Kansas and Missouri. That makes your comment is both undeducated and invalid.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 11:23 - You are in no position to call someone else uneducated. Read your post and try to re-write without grammatical and punctuation errors.

Everyone else - This is a bogus story. OP is not offering Polsinelli $4M to move. If the offer was real, the firm would move in a second. They need the money.

    ReplyDelete
  34. $70K per lawyer?

They must have laughed at that offer.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thats why we need to get rid of those clowns in city hall, put in some new people. And get rid of that freaking E-TAX we are losing to many damn jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Will Polsinelli even be around two years from now?

    ReplyDelete

  42. Polsinelli wouldn't even think of moving for only $4 million. They'd get at least $20 from the City and State, easily, if they tried.

Kansas and Missouri do have reciprocity for law licenses. All they have to do is hire someone to fill out the applications.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I want to know why they need to build a new building in the first place. They have very nice offices on the other side of the plaza.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Let's see Plaza building, JOCO burb near exit XX on I-435. Who wins.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The address is what they want. They'll stay put. If they didn't care, they would already be in JoCo.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If $4 million was on the table, they would immediately move. Dey need da moolah.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Who cares? The good firms are downtown.

    ReplyDelete
  48. They don't care about the address and they dont need the cash. They want the space. The firm is doing well and has well-salaried employees that pay a lot of earnings tax. The building isn't being TIF'd and the people who are screaming do not understand the parking plan, the traffic plan or much else..

I dont care where the firm goes frankly, but all of these emotional arguments and statements not based on fact are ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 8:10, you are dead wrong. PS has a lot of lawyers licensed in KS. A few years ago, KS had a window for reciprocity and most lawyers went throughbthe steps of gaining their KS licenses at that time. They also don't need the money. The firm is not built around development law anymore and did not dry up the way some firms did. They have expanded over the last few years, not declined.

Your entire comment is bogus. Did you get fired from PS or do you work for Funy's office?

    ReplyDelete
  50. The people of OP don't want them either. We would rather have curbs and sidewalks and additional police.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is the only way Kansas can add business is to buy them from KCMO?

You would think with all the money kansas offers to new companies that they would get somebody, anybody at all from out of the metro. But nope, it's 99% kcmo.

Even so, they are not leaving kcmo. This is not a suburban office park firm.

But they will play the states against each other to get a better deal.
