TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! CO-MAYORS FUNKY AND SQUITIRO SCREW UP THE MAYOR'S CHRISTMAS TREE FUND ONE MORE TIME!!!

The Mayor's Christmas Tree is going to be another hot mess this year.
Even worse, once again Gloria Squitiro's meddling ruined what could have been an inspiration during harsh times.
Of course, the Mayor's crew wanted to turn the event political . . . A great many of you d-bags have noted that local GOP hot shot Cathy Nugent was in charge of the hot mess . . . Her fee was quite a bit more than a lump of coal and YES, she is allegedly a friend of GOP consultant Jeff Roe.
It gets worse, the "celebrity" guest for the event is Celina Tio (???) some high priced chef that might be familiar to a great many old women watching The Food Channel.
And there's where it gets really sad . . .
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MANY, MANY YEARS THERE ARE NO MAJOR SPONSORS AND NO MAJOR GRANTS FOR THE KANSAS CITY MAYOR'S CHRISTMAS TREE FUND!!!
As time goes by, we're getting further and further away from the legacy of Jerry Cohen, the chairman of the Mayor's Christmas Tree fund-raising committee for more than 45 years. Cohen kept politics out of the mix of this fund and had a much more stable record than the disaster the local institution has become under Mayor Funky's watch.
Go ahead and blame the recession . . . Everyone even remotely involved runs away from this thing screaming to the hills that Co-Mayor Squitiro is nearly impossible to work with and seriously hurts progress.
The only bright spot in all of this is that my homegirl Darla Jaye will be hosting and promises to keep politics out of this beloved holiday event . . . It really is a nice holiday tradition that has been horribly twisted and neglected under the leadership of Kansas City Co-Mayors Funky and Squitiro.
jealous.
ReplyDeleteEven Christmas in KCMO is about the self-important personalities and ego-boosted losers who constantly show up making money from every event or activity there is.
ReplyDeleteCan't we just light a Christmas tree and enjoy the holdiay, family, and friends, without all this insider crap?
They really RUINED it last year when they had stigall there. Did he wear that damn Gestapo outfit? That's not really Christmas. Darla is pretty upbeat, she may be able to salavage this year. Combine Hisoner with tough economic times, thank you w. and it's no surprise there are NO major sponsors.
ReplyDeleteAnd how much did they pay the friend of Jeff Roe to organize what used to be done for free? $10,000! That's a lot of money that could have gone to the needy.
ReplyDeleteI better go get in line at the Kohl's for those Cham-peen sweatpants doorbusters.
ReplyDeleteIn a move that emphasizes Kansas City's racism, a Latina was not chosen to host the ceremony.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mother Earth was savaged for crass commercialism by the cutting down of a tree.
The Christmas tree is a slap in the face of Muslims.
ReplyDeleteI really hope Darla is doing this in the spirit of Christmas. If the Co-mayors start appearing on her show im done with 980. This administration has ruined this KC tradition.
ReplyDeleteSo, if there are no grants or sponsors, what are they giving out to the poor?
ReplyDeleteIsn't some dealership giving away a car? That' sorta major.
ReplyDeleteCan you prove they don't? It's easier for the MCTF to produce a list of sponsors than for you to spew a bunch of unsourced, unfounded (and therefore probably not true) allegations.
ReplyDeleteYou don't even bother couching it in "word has it" or "sources say," because word DOESN'T have it and sources DO NOT say.
Start offering concrete evidence for the dumps you take or expect to be called out.
EVERY TIME.
Aristocrat Motors is offering another car, same as last year.
ReplyDeleteYOU LIE.
this is a beloved holiday event? you lie again
ReplyDeleteSadly for all, just the choice of Darla Jaye Nobody from talk radio shows that this year's Mayor's Christimas tree has gone to the dogs.
ReplyDeleteNo sponsors. no big names. unpopular mayor. moron wannabe introducing the mayor and filling the time. at least they'll get some radio station hype for it they wouldn't have gotten had they not chose someone from kmbz.
the graphic funny as hell tony. donations will be up for the salvation army this year cuz the Mayor's Christmas tree is going to be a bust.
Funk should bow out and go live in the country... take the note from LBJ.
Funk & Company's not going to be lucky like W was to FOOL THEM ONCE and then FOOL THEM AGAIN! Not without the US Chamber paying for it and it appears they aren't.
Who in the world is Cathy Nugent? It takes a "hot shot" to plan a Christmas tree lighting?
ReplyDeleteAnd finally, how many of the city hall insiders are making a buck on this?
These people just can't figure out that behavior has consequences and the e-tax vote is right around the corner. Do they think that behaving responsibly for the two weeks prior to the election is going to convince the public to give them the money?
Is four chickens and a coke hired again? Why are the Christmas Tree Fund meetings held via phone conferencing? Why were the city hall attorneys banned from the earlier meetings.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they sell the nude pictures of Tara that hung in the 29th floor john to raise funds? (Pictures no longer available? ask the Star for copies.)
Seriously, the Food Network is pretty big.
ReplyDeleteI am on the Plaza and there is a big black cloud. Funkhouser is inching his way along the sidewalks with his leftovers in a bag. He is dressed like a sexton, doom and gloom clings to him.
ReplyDeleteFood for thought, two years ago the couple who won the car from Aristocrat Motors turned down the gift because the taxes were too high.
ReplyDeleteAristocrat is not major at all.
The whole event is lame. Skip.
ReplyDeleteyes. skip.
ReplyDeleteWas that Gloria in the doggie bag?
ReplyDeleteThe truth.
ReplyDeleteSponsors this year were Hallmark and Crown Center, Randy Reed GMC, Kansas City Power & Light, Price Chopper and Tension Envelope. Randy Reed supplied a Buick Regal 2-year lease being paid for by Randy Reed and KCP&L. A $5 donation allows people to enter a Jan. 2 drawing for a chance to win the car lease.
The lie.
YOU LIE, TONY.
YOU ARE A DISCREDITED LIAR.
Why didn't Aristocrat decide to sponsor this year?
ReplyDeleteEveryone in this city hates us. They wont give us no money. I am all over town acting like a real fool. But it don't make no difference. I am a uneducated fool. I wanted to be somebody so I made myself the co mayor. I was a baby catcher for over twenty years. I am a worthless Bitch.
ReplyDeleteIn faith,
Gloria (the bitch) Squitiro
Sorry Tony. I think you pulled this story out of your butt. Crown Center and Hallmark were the major sponsers, as was Randy Reed who donated a 2011 Buick lease for 2 years. All the Price Choppers are promoting the Mayors Christmas Tree fund, and KCP&L was also a major sponser. So much for no sponsers, Huh Tony?
ReplyDeleteAs for Cathy Nugent, she did a great job putting the event together and is NOT a friend of Jeff Roe!
As for the event tonight, it drew at least 15,000 people, who donated to the Mayors fund, Toys for Tots, and Harvesters.
It was a great event, with beautiful music, and the spirit of Christmas. The Tree lighting and fireworks were beautiful.
Maybe you should have "reported" AFTER the event, instead of before. You could have gotten the real information, if you had gone to Crowne Ctr.
11:00 you must be Gloria. Crown Center is ALWAYS the major sponsor. Price Chopper is ALWAYS involved. KCP&L is involved because Mike Chesser is tight with Funk. They have paid for the car for the past three years, so no news there. Tio made it through a handful of episodes and is hardly a celebrity. Cathy Nugent is a big Republican operative, just like Roe, and she was paid $10,000 to do what others did for free. No grants were even applied for. After all this, the question needs to be asked: how much in dollars was distributed to people in the form of Price Chopper gift cards? Got an answer for that, Gloria?
ReplyDeleteWe've been attending for 20 years - went tonight and have never seen such a low turnout. Also, where were the fireman - usually a truck or two and fireman collecting donations?? None to be found tonight.
ReplyDelete1:12
ReplyDeleteA city vehicle collecting donations??? That must have been on Barnes watch. Likely for her campaign
It was freezing outside most of the night. Crowd looked good and from where I was standing seemed packed. The candles were a nice touch and the entertainment was good.
ReplyDeleteThe car for the raffle looked good to me and everyone seemed to be enjoyed the event. Why does your hatred of the mayor have to taint everything?
Chef Tio made it farther than a few episodes, she was eliminated in the semi-finals so give the girl a break and celebrate our hometown girl done good.
The Rockhurst Choir was fabulous and the Symphony as usual was superb!
That group that started off, Octarium or something like that was great too.
It was a fun event so give credit where credit is due.
