TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! MAST TAKEOVER AFTERMATH HAS MANY KANSAS CITY RANK AND FILE FIREFIGHTERS PISSED OFF!!!
Sadly, TKC does not feel vindicated by the current hot mess related to the MAST takeover by the Kansas City Fire Department despite the fact this blog noted it would be an unmitigated disaster.
Unfortunately . . . What TKC Tipsters told us of the impending FAIL, has now come to pass.
Here are the highlights:
Yesterday, we talked about the pension mess currently facing Local 42 and the fallout that has their current leaders embroiled in controversy.
Now we hear it's worse than TKC TIPSTERS originally suspected:
SOMETIME SOON LOOK FOR A $23 MILLION AMOUNT TO SURFACE RELATED TO THE COST FOR THE KCFD TO COVER MAST PENSIONS!!! REPORTEDLY, THIS BIG CASH PAYOUT IS COMING RIGHT OUT OF FIREFIGHTER COFFERS AND COULD BE THE IMPETUS OF SOME MAJOR CHANGES IN UNION LEADERSHIP!!!
But, in the grand scheme of things, Union squabbles always have a way of working themselves out.
More important to the healthcare of Kansas City:
A RECENT CITY HALL REPORT IS SOON TO REVEAL THAT RESPONSE TIMES ARE ALREADY DOWN FOR THE KCFD AMBULANCE SERVICE!!!
The figures that I'm hearing:
Northland response times were at 82% of calls answered within the ambulance service guidelines.
That figure has currently fallen to around 60% of calls answered within the recommended time.
Let's not forget that brain drain among MAST executives that were either forced out or didn't want any part of the KCFD takeover that was the brainchild of current Union leadership.
Currently, the hot topic among leftover MAST folks is the high number of unfilled shifts for ambulance workers, rock bottom morale and a rather frightening rumor that Kansas City ambulance services are running so poorly that the Union Busters at AMR might be called in to fill in the gaps.
All things considered . . .
THERE HASN'T BEEN A WORSE TIME TO GET SICK IN KANSAS CITY HISTORY!!!
So take care and thank just about everybody on the City Council other than Ed Ford for this current government healthcare mess that didn't meet with any Conservative or Tea Party protests because nobody told Glenn Beck.
Developing . . .
Hyperbole thy name is blog.
ReplyDeleteI hope they hit the urinals.
ReplyDeleteThis is a John Sharp mess.
ReplyDeleteWe have tried to have numerous meetings to get answers for your actions. You keep cancelling. As a member of your "rank and file", quit avoiding us by cancelling our requests.
ReplyDeleteEwww. They didn't hit the urinals!
ReplyDeleteOk, well regardless of how much you put us down here is the truth. We have some amazing Paramedics and EMT's who worked for the former MAST and now FD(plus some not so amazing ones its true). The level of skill and knowledge of the EMS people who work for FD is far greater than any in the area, and probablly the country for that matter. KCFD has put EMS in the toilet because of their lack of expreience and hurry along attitude torwards the entire situation. The "rank and file" EMS members haven't changed, we still are and always will be some of the most highly skilled EMS providers in the nation. Look at our cardiac arreest save rates. Historicly, the only city in the country with better save rates has been Seattle WA, home of the American Heart Association. Well for the last several years KCMO has been number one in the country, beating out Seattle for the number of cardiac arrest saves. FD has put the citizens of KCMO at great risk because of their lack of knowledge and lack of concern for the health and well being of the citizens.
ReplyDeleteFD: The Bravest
PD: The Finest
EMS: The Forgotten
And now we have an explanation as to why Local 42 is so committed to the Mayor's re-election. If service is down (money issue is secondary) then ALL council incumbents who voted for the take over, including Hermann who is running for Mayor, could be toast on election day. This is a damn serious issue. Everything pales in comparison to life and death.
ReplyDeleteThese councilpeople don't care about the rash of murders in the city; why do you think they'll care about this?
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to get sick in KCMO, be sure to do it at a meeting about taxpayers financing a new hotel. There's pleny of money and attention there!!
Sounds like one hot mess to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks TKC. I was thining you are sort of like wikileak. tonyleak?
ReplyDeleteAnother unintended consequence!
ReplyDeleteSubsidies for the TWA repair base; the P&L District underfunded; the contracted out infrastructure group. Wait until the results of the billion dollar sewer repairs are undertaken by a department led by someone who knows nothing about sewers. What could possibly go wrong?
Why can't we ever really think these important decisions through?
This pension buy in is going to cost the City (taxpayers) more than Power and Light, because if Local 42 gets it then Local 500 will also. Someone needs to read these ordinances and ask the committee it is assigned to a lot of questions when they have public testimony.
ReplyDeleteSend Louie and Sherwood to jail and get this over with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "City that Works", Mark Funkhouser.
ReplyDeleteSay ... when DO we get to the end of the FUNKHOUSER SUICIDE WATCH?
