Sadly, so many white people in this town falsely assumed that Riley was attempting to pretend that he was Irish because he employed the color green and shamrocks in his current Jackson County Race.
Even worse, local media reported this claim without doing even a modicum of fact checking or research and Riley's assertion that he has always used green and shamrocks has remain ignored.
Regarding this shamrock issue, local media has been so stupid and biased in their reporting that they've even dared to question Terry Riley's blackness.

News flash: White people don't own the color green or shamrocks so this whole argument is based on nothing but Kansas City's ongoing and out in the open racism.
KC Star columnist Yael Abouhalkah didn't even have the decency to properly correct his stupid accusations on this subject.
Sadly, while this bit of discovery is important and it proves this town is dominated by media who don't know what they're doing when it comes to election coverage . . . It might not help Riley so much.
TKC is the first news outlet to report:
"Taxpayers Unlimited and the Greater Kansas City Fire Fighters Local 42 have endorsed and are supporting whole heartily Fred Arbanas for County Legislator."
So, while the old school sign of support from firefighters is important to KANSAS CITY'S ONGOING TACIT RACISM, it's a long ago memory or former support that has now aligned to support an elected official that has been around for nearly a lifetime.

But the fact remains there is something sneaky in putting the shamrock there in the first place. He never used it again until now. Why? Like everything Riley does...when he gets backed into a corner about something he has done he claims racism. Just wrong.

Apparently TKC is only interested in the INSIDER AUDIENCE. Maybe 200-700 readers, including cubie employees working in KCMO and JXCO? Actually, for a blogger, that's pretty big numbers in a town like this. Hence, TKC pretty much only does KCMO/JXCO politics.
I think that's small potatoes since most people don't even LIVE in those jurisdictions.
Yet, no one has managed to do the TKC version out in JOCO where the real economics are! They might try, but haven't used the TKC "dig up political dirt/political machine" model of the community that cut it's teeth on Pendergast Politics!
Maybe JOCO just doesn't give a shit about old style machine politics from KC, Chicago and NY?
Let's just note that as less important KCMO's economy becomes in this multi-county metro area, the less relevance their machine politics, and KCMO/JXCO and blogs like TKC has.
I bet fully 2/3rds of this Metro area doesn't even CARE what KCMO/JXCO officials do! Maybe the only ones who are are those INDIVIDUALS who have no skills other than political ones...and they just compete with each other for wasteful six figure salaries!

ReplyDeleteI know Terry Riley very well. At times I've hated him and others I've really liked him. He has that affect on you. He is both a soft spoken giant who has a soft spot for kids and a terrible bully who threatens and attacks. And yes, he used that Shamrock in the past and now to pass as white. Why? He believes most white people are racist and will vote for a white over a black every time. Why? Because in his neighborhood people will vote for a black over a white every time. I'm sure there is some truth to both but it is not an absolute. Alan Wheat and Cleaver to name just two of many who were elected from the same area without Shamrocks or other tricks.
