Thanks to one of many political vendettas carried out yesterday, Acting City Manager Troy Schulte is now virtually powerless.
This was nothing more than payback for Former City Manager Wayne Cauthen getting thrown out of City Hall like a hobo.
I always knew there would be pushback for the surprise attack against Cauthen and it came yesterday.
"City Hall has a new department called the Capital Projects Office.
The measure passed the Kansas City Council on a 7-6 vote after supporters resurrected it Thursday for a third time.
Council members, led by Terry Riley and John Sharp, said the Capital Projects Office will enable the city to more efficiently handle construction projects and reduce a $175 million backlog."
We've talked about this thing for weeks on this blog and it finally went down without much pushback. The secret to victory was Mayor Funky flip-flopping on his old promises to support the City Manager.
GET IT STRAIGHT, MAYOR FUNKY SOLD OUT THE GUY HE RECENTLY CALLED "HIS CITY MANAGER" SIMPLY BECAUSE HE WAS GETTING LEFT BEHIND BY COUNCIL PEOPLE KISSING UP TO THE HEAVIES!!!
The Heavies love Cauthen and Troy just got in the way. The good news is that Troy is staying until the election and he might even hang on to the job afterwards since it's nearly ceremonial at this point.
Of course there will be some exceptions to my characterization of the move and the new department head will answer to Troy in some respect but for the most part the details of these projects now run through a new office won't be as tightly controlled by the City Manager. Local government just underwent another major shakeup simply because the City Council has yet to figure out how to get along . . . And of course, because the Mayor's word is worthless.
And now wait for the money to show up on Funky's campaign finance report.
ReplyDeleteSo, is this just CIMO by another name?
ReplyDeleteI've always said that more bureaucracy was the answer to all organizational problems.
ReplyDeleteAll this gamesmanship needs to stop. Vote them all out! This is the worst council ever. At least the Cleaver bunch got a few things done before they went to jail. The Barnes bunch spent all our money but they did it with class and professionalism. This group is like the NEW Jersey City Housewives reality show. I keep waiting for one of them to upend a table.
ReplyDeleteIt's not all of them. If you look back, you will see that it is usually the same core crew that is doing something flakey (or, if you prefer, funky).
ReplyDeleteThe women are spitefull and mean. The men are arrogant and stupid. They can't work together unless it is to attack someone. Who are these reasonable voices?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. They all need to go. Then, the new council can hire an honest city manager.
ReplyDeleteThe current city manager is honest, and the people that voted him into office, with the exception of the mayor, are by and large, good people. There are several I would return to office, and several I would not. Hopefully more people will pay attention to the next election and cast intelligent, thoughtful votes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to disagree with you 1:39... the New Jersey Housewives are far more entertaining. And if you want to see furniture moved, elect Michael Fletcher. He's tossed a chair or two in his day.
I bet Shulte last longer than The Co-mayors.??
ReplyDeleteKeep Troy, dump Gloria.
ReplyDelete8:28, yes this is CIMO with another name. I HUGE waiste of your taxpayer dollars.
ReplyDeleteWho is Troy Schulte, what is CIMO, and why should I care??
ReplyDeleteThe Co-mayors are loyal to know one. Not even themselves.
