The local LGBT community is using Facebook to challenge long-standing, powerful Missouri politco Ike Skelton today over his stance on Don't Ask/Don't Tell.
Thanks to TKC TIPSTERS for the info regarding the rally organized by Doug Gray, a local activist and political campaign consultant. He's organizing this rally today. He organized it even before Obama's SOTU speech last night. Thanks to very politically active TKC readers, this blog is the first newsy outlet to break this local bit of protest. Natch.
Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton's recently announced that he does not support repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell "at this time." And, as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee he does not plan to hold a full committee hearing. Other members of the Missouri delegation (and other Midwest and national members of Congress) often defer to Ike on military issues as the "expert". Congressman Skelton's decision to not hold a hearing could be very harmful to the momentum to repeal DADT this year.Looks interesting . . . Developing.
In response we are organizing a press conference and rally in Kansas City. Congressman Skelton will be in Kansas City at the downtown Muehlbach Hotel, this Thursday, January 28th as the Downtown Rotary Club guest speaker. Please join us for a "HOLD A HEARING IKE!" press conference and rally to make our voices heard that "NOW IS THE TIME TO REPEAL DADT!
ACTION NEEDED:
1) Attend the Rally and Press conference promptly at 11:30am Thursday,January 28th.
2) Bring 2 friends with you.
3) Forward this information to all of your friends in Kansas City and post on your Facebook account.
4) Try to make a sign and bring it with you. KEEP IT ON MESSAGE PLEASE!

Wow, I know I will feel safe knowing the LGBT community is protecting our national security. DADT was introduced with much controversy by Clinton and has worked. I love how all of these people who have never served in the military are experts in military affairs.

ReplyDeleteThe military has discharged gay and lesbian arabic translators and finding American soldiers who know Arabic are not exactly a dime a dozen. So much for what the U.S. thinks about national security when they could fire valuable translators to fight the war on terrorism just because they sleep with the same sex.

Doug Gray used to be a very closeted queen. Now he is like super out, if he is in a crowd of Gays. Then Doug met Kevin who is a hottie, but he is pretty dumb.

there were about 7 people at the rally. I would hardly call that a rally, more like a giant waste of time for an idea that is impractical and detrimental to the already low moral of the military.
