The TKC Saturday Night Playlist!!! The Downfall of Hate Radio and Chis Stigall!!!

At the end this week let's consider how the mighty have fallen with the help of the growing Latino population in the United States and the power of technology.

After nationwide promotion on national cable TV and help from Kansas City's Mayor Funkhouser it turns out that 710 radio talker Chris Stigall is nothing but a paper tiger and his ratings are about equal to a 2nd rate college station on the East Coast.

Dean of local media John Landsberg at Bottom Line Communications very smoothly tried to bury some disappointing news to protect his boy but I can read through the lines for something horribly embarrassing and it's worth taking note.

Once the new Personal People Meter (PPM) ratings system was firmly in place it was revealed that nobody really listens to Chris Stigall. Here's the money quote:

"NewsRadio KMBZ's morning duo of Ellen Schenk and E.J. Becker finished a strong fourth at 5.8, easily outdistancing KCMO morning talker Chris Stigall, who finished 21st with a 2.1 rating."

There's no way to really spin this data. It very clearly demonstrates that Chris Stigall sucks and the myth of his big audience of reactionary hillbillies was just hype. On the heels of news that Lou Dobbs is nothing more than a quitter and an opportunist forced out by more realistic political forces - It was a good week for opponents of anti-immigrant hate.

And all of this reminds me of a great Ghandi quote that speaks to the downfall of reactionary rhetoric that would rather deport people like me rather than trust in the free market and the American Dream.

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS."

Like Ghandi, I also walk around in my pajamas most days and I will not only echo the statement but also note that the audience for hate is rather limited and undependable or at the very least - People have better things to do than listen to GOP talking points from some walking human penis impersonator for three hours.

And all of this has inspired tonight's playlist . . . Dedicated to Stigall and his crappy ratings.
