While all of the local media outlets and blogs are playing catch up . . . TKC TIPSTERS have an EXCLUSIVE look at the discussion of a potentially serious error made during yesterday's Cauthen suspension.
Folks thinking that this is a victory for Mayor Funky only reveal that they don't know ANYTHING about what went down at City Hall.
What really happened is that Mayor Funky pushed to the front of a Northland movement.
It was actually Council lady Deb Hermann who finally got Cauthen with the help of Bill Skaggs.
Still . . . And this is the funny part:
MAYOR FUNKY MANAGED TO SCREW UP THE CAUTHEN COUP WITH A VINDICTIVE MOVE THAT MIGHT HAVE VIOLATED CITY POLICY!!!
Even worse . . .
IT TURNS OUT THAT CITY MANAGER CHIEF OF STAFF CHUCK EDDY COULD BE ONE OF MANY EMPLOYEES AT CITY HALL TO BRING TO LIGHT ANOTHER POSSIBLE ETHICS VIOLATION DURING MAYOR FUNKY'S POLITICAL VENDETTA!!!
Allow me to explain . . .
There is a rather clear delineation between elected officials and City Hall employees.
Yesterday, before the Northland Council folk were able to get their ducks in a row. Mayor Funky made the dumb move of sending some of City Manager Cauthen's favorite City Hall employees home. Newsies will make a Sunshine request for documentation later, but even Melba Curls raised some great questions about this yesterday so EVERYBODY but dorks at The Star understand the question.
Plain and simple: The Mayor isn't allowed to screw with City Hall employees.
As interim City Manager Troy Shulte might have been able to do that . . .
HOWEVER, AT THE TIME THE MAYOR DISMISSED CITY HALL EMPLOYEES TROY SHULTE WAS NOT YET APPOINTED BY THE COUNCIL AS INTERIM CITY MANAGER!!! AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS ARE SAYING THAT EMPLOYEES SENT HOME BY THE MAYOR ARE VICTIMS OF A MAJOR VIOLATION OF CITY HALL ETHICS RULES!!!
So, at the very least, there is already a serious question for City Hall's favorite bureaucrat in this bit of local government by surprise attack. So . . .
WILL TROY SHULTE STAND WITH CITY HALL EMPLOYEES OR CHOSE THE SIDE OF THE MAYOR WHEN IT COMES TIME TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT DISMISSING CITY HALL WORKERS . . . GIVEN THAT ANY WORKER SENT HOME BY MAYOR FUNKY NOW HAS JUST CAUSE TO FILE A COMPLAINT!!!
Realize, I'm not crying crocodile tears for Wayne Cauthen. He'll be living large off of the big fat check courtesy of Council people Bill Skaggs, Deb Hermann, Russ Johnson, Beth Gottstein, Jan Marcason and Cindy Circo so he'll be fine.
But what is hilarious about this is when Chuck Eddy gets fired he might have a pretty good ethics complaint (and maybe damages) against City Hall thanks to the Mayor's dumb move . . . And this is even more proof that Co-Mayor Funkhouser can screw up even the most brilliant plan.

Beaufort said during the meeting that he thought Troy Schulte sent the staff home for their protection, but even when Beaufort made that remarkable statement, Schulte had yet to be named interim city manager. Rich Noll was in the chambers. He did not know his employment status. As an assistant city manager, he outranked Schulte. Who had the employees hand in their cell phones? Who had security escort some employees out of the building? Who order email access cut off? No One Had That Authority At the Time The Orders Were Given. Smells funky to me.

ReplyDeleteThis is a tempest in a teapot! The employees could have chosen to express their disagreement on the spot and Beaufort would have clarified the who and what. They chose to leave quietly and there is "no harm, no foul" over the incident.

I am glad we have someone pro union in the city manager's office now. The city is going to have to make some big time cuts to balance the $60 million pit, and thanks to Mr Schulte's strong support of organized labor in this city, we feel confident he will find that money in the myriad of excessive middle management and top level positions.

So Mayor Deb Herrmann managed to get enough people on to square one and get rid of the biggest mistake we have ever hired. Cauthern is one of the reasons that the Colorado CIMO office staff are getting so rich for so little.

ReplyDeleteThis is yet another example of Municipal Madness. At a time of great unease, recession and fiscal calamity we would have hoped for leaders to step up to the plate and excersize LEADERSHIP. Instead, we have the Council, the Funk and Cauthen none of whom seem to care a whit about the daily travails of the regular orange revolution citizen. The elections are coming up... let's see again how stupid and sheep-like people really are. The last three years have been a disgrace.

ReplyDeleteI am a white northlander. Here's my take. Hermann, Johnson and Skaggs are all more respectful and eager to help minority communities than Cauthen ever was. Cauthen (and Ford) always sided with developers while they paid lip service to neighborhoods. I think we could do much worse than this council trio and their choices. I understand that none of them have the experience of being African-American, but I also have never seen evidence of racism from any of them. They all seem very smart/savvy and smart to me. But maybe I have no credibility, either. The northland (financially) carries south of the river, not like Johnson county that uses Jackson county without paying. Low crime, good schools, diversity and growth--who doesn't want that? I hope they can spread the success.

And I'd vote for Deb Hermann for Mayor! She's the only one who knew what a disaster the city Budget really was and the lies that Cauthen put into it.
