This slightly abbreviated week still brought change and power plays to the Kansas City political and cultural scene. There is a lot to look at other than bikini photos of Zoe Saldaña.
So, let's get to it . . . Check out Kansas City's most powerful people:
Politicos
1. The Concerned Clergy of Kansas City - White people didn't like what they had to say, but they elicited a response from EVERYONE nonetheless. That's a power that refuses to go unnoticed.
2. Terry Riley - The City Councilman rallied the base this week and begins to build more support that many politicos would like to admit.
3. Rosa James - This local NAACP leader and community volunteer is affiliated with Mayor Funky but powerful enough to take him to task as well.
4. Michael Fletcher - The lawyer is back in town and word is he is talking to EVERYBODY!!! While chatter continues to circulate regarding his possible challenge to Council Lady Sharon Sanders Brooks.
5. Gwen Grant and Clinton Adams - This Brother and Sister duo are doing their very best to play both sides of the fence on issues related to Funky and the P&L District. So far it looks like they are succeeding.
NEWSIES
1. Micheal Mahoney - This newsie seems to like being on TV more than the holidays and he was on the scene for some of this week's most popular stories.
2. Chris Hernandez - He made his mark this week by putting questions to some of the most powerful people in Kansas City.
3. DeAnn Smith - Behind the scenes, she's responsible for some of the most interesting content on NBC Action News.
4. Ash-har Quraishi - Nobody wants to admit they watched the KCTV5 Investigative report regarding organized crime ripping off box stores . . . But we all did.
5. Charles Ferruzza - He's still hanging in there and in a world where EVERYONE is a foodie he manages to stay relevant.
CULTURE
1. Hearne Christopher Jr. - All of Kansas City cares about his social life, that must be a powerful position.
2. Will Gregory - Will's client list keeps growing and his rep as KC's top PR guy keeps increasing despite the best efforts of TKC.
3. Anthony Magliano - Quixotic has some interesting things coming up and the Artistic Director for this group keeps getting good mentions from the local media.
4. Bill Brownlee - This Writer, reporter blogger is just about everywhere in the local music scene and his reviews are now well sought after.
5. Mary Anne McNeish-Sharp - Her KC about.com blog is getting more influential to the social scene by the day and I've heard quite a few people rank it as a must read.
MAYORAL CANDIDATES
1. Mike Burke - The "Burke for Mayor" movement is swinging into full gear coming off a good fundraiser and some decent press and Internet postings.
2. Sly James - Sly is laying low but still taking LOTS of meetings and talking with just about everybody in Kansas City.
3. Mayor Funkhouser - Credit where it's due. He's doing a decent job convincing a few people he's got a shot the next time around.
4. Janice Ellis - She's still on Broadway and still in the game.
5. Al Riederer - If he runs, he wins.
These rankings were determined using precise, scientific data collection methods and a patented public opinion survey process based on mainstream media reporting, Internet content searches and community discussion research.
I would power into her.
ReplyDeleteLots to comment about, T, but just a few here...Fletcher? He's a disbarred, disgraced has-been. If the third district supports him, they could be worse off than they are now (if that is even possible).
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley has no base. Black Clergy getting angry does not an energized base make. Will Gregory? Not in this century. Competent at best...redundant and derivative in reality.
I could go on, but I'll give someone else a chance.
Always interesting, T!
nice touch. they are all black.

ReplyDeleteTrue dat.
ReplyDeleteHearne did not deserve to be news by anybody.
Likewise T what is your fixation to DeAnn Smith she ain't all that. At least you got Gwen I take a pay-off Grant right. She speaks out gainst pwople while taking money from them. What a sell-out. Mike Fletcher shot himself in the foot. He hd a shot at winning the 3rd but this thing about him buying the blck preachers is gonna resurface and the Jew statement and the fact that he is disbarred. Black people are dumb but not tht dumb.I have to plug this week's Call newspaper and the Gettin' Hot In Here column by Eric Wesson. Even though he didn't name the secret meeting olks we all know who they were thanks to Tony and the other bloggers. And the details on how cauthen fell out of favor with the neeegroes.Interesting.
ReplyDeletedoesn't Fletcher have a criminal record? Perfect for this fucked up city!
ReplyDeleteCriminals can run for elected office. Ask Rizzo!
ReplyDeleteERIC WESSON WROTE IN THE CALL THIS WEEK THAT A GROUP OF NEGROES ATTEMPTED TO SHAKE CAUTHEN DOWN FOR 80 GRAND. BUT WESSON WAS TOO COWARDLY TO NAME NAMES. WHO WERE THESE PEOPLE AND WHAT DID THEY ASK FOR THE MONEY FOR?
ReplyDeleteHE ALSO SAID THAT CAUTHEN CALLED THEIR ATTEMPTED SHAKEDOWN CRIMINAL.
THIS EXPLAINS WHY THESE HOUSE NEGROES WERE AT FUNKS HOUSE ON THEIR KNEES KISSING GLORIA'S BARE FEET. WESSON ALSO QUOTED AN "UNNAMED FEMALE COMMUNITY LEADER" AS SAYING THAT SHE IS "GLAD THAT CAUTHEN IS GONE."
I KNOW THIS IS SOMETHING THAT GWEN GRANT WOULD SAY BECAUSE SHE AND HER BROTHER FAILED TO BULLY CAUTHEN INTO CUTTING THEM A CHECK.
NOBODY CARES ABOUT THESE PEOPLE. NOT EVEN THEIR OWN. THERE IS A HUGE VOID IN LEADERSHIP ON THE EASTSIDE BECAUSE ALL OF THE SO CALLED LEADERS ARE TWOFACE SELLOUT CROOKS AND CON ARTISTS.
Interesting.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows he was talking about James Tindall, Karen Curls, Ken Baccus, Charles Hazelett, Gwen Grant, Clinton Adams. Dahhh what planet do you live on? That circulated in the black community for months. Everybody knows that when you talk about sell outs and contracts these are the people you are talking about. They the only ones begging acting as if the white folks owe them something because of slavery.
ReplyDelete-Janice Ellis - She's still on Broadway and still in the game.-
ReplyDeleteFor the eighty seventh time-it's Main St. She and Frank are declaring bankruptcy. She is definitely not "still in the game".
-10/22/2009 Docket Entry: Notc/Sugg of Bankruptcy Filed
Text: FILED VIA FAX (ka)
They wanted a contract to put the housing program back together so that it could get out of receivership. Don't know if it was cowardly more like a liability thing. Newspapers have some clauses about what they can say. I don't think he gets along with any of them or travels in their circle of the shakedown crew. They really need to go get some lessons from Jesse Jackson.
ReplyDeleteSOMEBODY SHOULD WRITE THE URBAN LEAGUE'S BOARD TO INFORM THEM ABOUT GWEN AND CLINTON'S UNETHICAL ACTIONS SINCE SHE IS NOT DOING HER JOB EITHER. THE URBAN LEAGUE'S KANSAS CITY CHAPTER IS BROKE AND SERVES NO REAL PURPOSE IN THE COMMUNITY. PUT THESE POVERTY PIMPS OUT TO PASTURE ONCE AND FOR ALL SINCE GRANT AND ADAMS ARE ALWAYS IN THE MEDIA BITCHING ABOUT WHO IS NOT DOING THEIR JOBS AND WHO SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THEIR POSITIONS(AMATO AND CAUTHEN). LET THEM SEE HOW IT FEELS FOR A CHANGE!
ReplyDeleteHearne's run in with the bottle sort of put the kibosh on his stature this week. I suppose we will forget this adn he will fly back to the top. Stay away from the grape, Hearne!
ReplyDeleteSay Eric Wesson(anonymous 11:06pm) don't be ashamed of patting yourself on the back or plugging your own incoherent column. Plus why do you all continue to omit some people from the list of socalled sellouts who allegedly met with the mayor? Are you all trying to protect someone? If you are going to tell a story why not have some integrity and tell the entire story?
ReplyDeleteEric Wesson is in the hospital. He was in a car accident on Thanksgiving. They announced it in church and on his radio show this morning. Don't think tht he would be giving a damn about Tony's K.C. from a hospital bed.
ReplyDeleteOh and I agree with what the other person said I don't think Wesson would be protecting any of those people who were at the secret meeting. Perhaps the integrity was because the people who were at the meeting had not been confirmed. There is a thought. You honkies kill me with this bullshit. Half of the shit you guys leak on this blog is accurate but when it comes to aa black reporter then it becomes a question of integrity.I am just glad that someone east of Troost has something to say to inform people of a little bit that is going on. So I'm glad we have him.
ReplyDeleteGlenda Davis
Hey here is something. You got people who sign shit "anonymous" calling someone else cowardly and questioning someone's integrity. Over half the shit on here is incoherent. Now that's funny.Hey Glenda how is Eric doing?
ReplyDeleteDonnell Scott
Glenda, how do you know it's "honkies" leaking information? And I don't care if you sign your name or not, the racial name calling is disgusting. We "honkies" are called names every day on this blog by Tony and the people who comment. KC is racist alright, against white people. But we white people do vote.
ReplyDeleteLet's be clear about this: Charles Feruzza is the ONLY important, significant restaurant critic in this town, bar none.
ReplyDeletejust sayin'
Mo Rage
The blog
I can't believe people actually think "honkie" offends anyone. Oh wait, I'm super offended. Don't call me a honkie. Oh god. Please don't.
