At the heart of this blog is a strong instinct in support of fiscally conservative principles when it comes to local government . . . Not strippers.
However, I also pride this blog in championing expediency overall -- The same principle which guarantees that the middle-class would eat their children, sell their loved ones into prostitution and reject every one of their so-called beliefs if their survival depended upon it.
To wit . . . I would be remiss if I didn't link information regarding Rep. Mike Talboy enjoying sweet, sweet lobbying cash and then note that it's not really important.
Here are links from people who think this is a big story and lament the fact that The Star is pretty much ignoring it:
"Rep. Mike Talboy, D-Kansas City, not only is at the top of The Turner Report Hall of Shame, he was the runaway winner. With only half of the year gone, Talboy has already collected $6,480.61 in lobbyists' gifts."
"Talboy gets good Royals seats. Ooooooooo."
Now, let's be clear . . . TKC is a fan of Mike Talboy because he's one of the most effective elected leaders in the Missouri House. Also, I don't really see the point of GOP attacks because they aren't going to win the KC Downtown seat.
Furthermore . . . These attacks are stupid and prey upon misguided people because they only represent Talboy keeping really good track and REPORTING all of his interactions with lobbyists.
But here's the most important fact for me . . .
KANSAS CITY NEVER FAULTS A POLITICO FOR MAKING OR ENJOYING CASH!!!
It may not be right, it probably represents a corrupt culture but it's a fact of life.
Kansas City accepts success by any means necessary.
Sorry.
If anything Mayor Funky is even more despised because he's broke as a joke.
And phony teabag ethics don't win out in downtown.
Also, I find GOP propaganda regarding ethics from the same people willing to kick most of the State off Medicare a little confounding.
But go ahead and believe this is a big deal . . . Unlike the paper of record TKC is happy to link Republican smear tactics and challenge them head on . . . And anybody who believes this is a big issue or will influence an election is far too childish and naive for Kansas City politics.
Talboy is a good egg. Nuff said.
ReplyDeletetrue dat.
ReplyDeleteThe Turner Report is not a GOP front. They report on more republican stories. Just because someone points out facts that is not an attack.
ReplyDeleteFYI Lobbysts write and maintain the ethics reports not the elected officials
ReplyDeleteThe Turner Report commented favorable about Democrat Jason Kander in last year's elections, so does that mean that Kander is a Republican front?
ReplyDeleteGood question.
ReplyDeleteThe Turner Report just hates lobbyists in general, nothing other than that. Other than the games his big totals were from trips about biotechnology which is great because KC could use advocates to counter Bartle, Roe, Pratt and the wingnuts who hate science.
ReplyDeleteKander also receieved money from the Blue Dog Democrats PAC, which now works with Republicans to kill healthcare reform.
ReplyDeleteTalboy has always been an honest dude. nothing to see here
ReplyDeleteTalboy + Kandar = Democratic strategy meeting this week.
ReplyDeletePI attorneys = beware if these guys lose those part-time jobs being pawns for other people.
