TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KC LGBT COMMUNITY OBJECTS TO CITY SPONSORSHIP OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN PREACHER NOTED FOR INTOLERANCE OF HOMOSEXUALS!!!
This upcoming story just might be HUGE . . . Thanks to KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS . . . Readers of this blog are getting a sneak preview. Here's what one of the most informed TKC readers is noting:
"The "Prophet Todd Hall" is speaking at an upcoming "Life Changers" conference on Sunday morning, July 19 at 10 a.m. You can see that on the events section. And check out the YouTube video to see the homophobe in action. Make sure you see who the sponsors of this event are, including the P&L district, Fox4 and many others including the city. I'm writing letters to see if we can get the city to withdraw their support as long as Todd Hall is speaking unless the conference takes him off the program."It looks like this is one of those great Kansas City instances where cultures collide. Mr. Hall is an African-American preacher and the event is being supported by a great many local organizations to "promote local nonprofit organizations through health awareness programs, educational services and other social well-being efforts targeted toward African Americans."
However . . . The TKC TIPSTERS are saying that well-connected folks in the LGBT community are objecting to City support of this event along with so much corporate sponsorship given the intolerant reputation of one of the speakers . . . We'll see how much controversy this stirs but it's sure to be a point of contention proving once again that Kansas City is nothing more than a collection of different cultures clashing.
bitch fest
ReplyDeleteBelief in the Bible's injunctions against homosexuality does not make an individual a homophobe. If so, there are a lot of homophobes in good company with each other.
ReplyDeleteDW that is like saying that Irish Catholics were right in discriminating against African Americans or Italians because someone could turn the words of the Bible in such a way that made one population superior to another.
ReplyDeleteBigotry is Bigotry
This could be interesting to see how this plays out if the city council gets involved. I wonder who Terry Riley will risk pissing off? He's been a supporter of the gay community (even appearing on stage with Flo at events) so if he sides with the black community he will be kissing any gay support goodbye. And if he sides with the gay the black religious community will go after him with a vengence.
ReplyDeleteFunkhouser will be in a similar situation but will no doubt come down on the side of the religious extremists since he won't want to re-ignite chants of racism right before the Mammygate trial.
You'd think if Todd Hall was really a prophet he would have seen this controversy coming. It was probably just a spelling error and they intended to spell it "profit."
One thing's for certain: How legitimate of an event is this if they have to resort to putting Fox-4's internationally known blurp whore Shawn Edwards on the list of events and speakers?
There is County money involved too. Thresa Garza-Ruiz voted for it in order to play to her conservative Latino-base. Sanders has several key advisors working for him who are Gay or Lesbian, but he OK'ed the expenditure.
ReplyDeleteDo not just focus on the City Fuck Wad!
What's with you and the fruits T? It seems like you're behaving like a lot of the other deviants that decide to act gay because the opposite sex isn't interested.
ReplyDeleteGood for all of you -not-.
People, behave like you're supposed to. Quit promulgating a lifestyle that leads to destruction. And by destruction I mean lack of offspring. Just doesn't make sense. The few genetic freaks should not lead the mentally challenged down the wrong road.
I think Berm is Sprem 9:41 must have been taken down that Hershey Highway, eh?
ReplyDeleteI had two sets of twins and a single, so some of you fruits and nuts get a pass on this promulgating shit.
With Funk dissin' his LGBT supporters his support has sprung a major leak. OK, no jokes about sticking a finger in the dyke to stop the leak, no, I mean it, don't do it...
Funkhouser had no Faggot or Muff-Muncher support when he won. So do not libel his career with statements that suggest otherwise.
ReplyDeleteFunkhouser is a straight man who knows that cocksucking or pussy eating is wrong.
The path of the deviant is an abonimation to GOD!
I am glad the Latino woman voted the right way on this.
ReplyDeleteSimple fact: Would all those sponsors lend their support if the event had a white supremacist racist speaking? Not at all. Yet they think this is acceptable? I think most sponsors had no clue about what they were sponsoring but this is going to turn out to be a big bigotry event that supposedly empowers black people. And check out the speakers:
ReplyDeleteCheck out the video link to YouTube. It's a shocker.
ReplyDeleteThis self-proclaimed "prophet" is an unvarnished bigot and is not welcome here.
While private groups are free to sponsor whatever events they want, even though they will alienate the public they're trying to reach, the City in no way should sponsor bigotry, express or implied, especially when it's based on a purported religious belief.
Government has no place endorsing or associating itself with a religious belief. The self-proclaimed "prophet" has the constitutional right privately to express his Old Testament views, no matter how naseating, simplistic, or shallow, but not under the cloak of any actual or apparent City imprimatur.
If this report is accurate, and I hope it is not, I assume the City Council was unware of this when they signed on and that they will promptly withdraw the sponsorship and any City funding for the event.
The private sponsors would be wise to withdraw their support as well.
sheet.
ReplyDeleteDan Cofran, right on!
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to the separation of church and state? NO public money to support ANY religion!
ReplyDeleteIt's not just "Profit" Todd Hall. Run a Google search on many of the names listed as speakers and see how many of the Pulpit Pimps have spoken out against LGBT issues (though Hall is definitely one of the most vocal ... which makes me wonder what he's trying to compensate for).
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck? Do the city and county not have people who can do a simple Google search on a few names when organizations want public sponsorship or the use of public facilities? This reminds me of Funkhouser appointing Frances Semler to the parks board and not even having anyone do a simple Google search to find out what groups she was affiliated with.
I will be e-mailing and calling a number of people in city and local government tomorrow demanding answers for their support for these pulpit pimps and their hate-athon.
Our nation's founders gave us the concept of separation of church and state. Too bad they didn't take it a step further and separate church and hate.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDelete"Church and State v. Church and Hate". . . Clever.
The County is still laying off people though attrition, which means reduced services.
ReplyDeleteWhy are these resources being waisted on bigots?
If the money comes from COMBAT then every LGBT and Straight Ally citizen of this county should vote against the renewal of the COMBAT tax no matter what they say in the advertising.
If they spend the money like this, then they should not get the money.
Thank you for your help in the past Mr. Cofran
Did Beth vote for this expenditure?
ReplyDeleteDid Calvin lobby for it?
ReplyDeleteA lot of people have some answering to do on this one. Can't let this stand.
ReplyDeleteShame.
ReplyDelete$10 says the preacher's in the closet.
ReplyDeleteFree speech? America? Ring a bell? Who cares about the lgbt- let em rant- it's not going to change the minds of the majority on the issue
ReplyDeleteCall and write your council people, the mayor and Jackson County legislature. This cannot stand. We should not spend taxpayers' money on hate mongers.
ReplyDeleteThis is a matter of civil rights/human rights.
Call? Write? Please, if the LGBT community had any stones at all they would organize a protest at this event. A real out on the sidewalk in your face signs and chanting mess, like they would if the organizers of this event were white, or conservative. But of course they do not want to "appear" to be racist. So yes, go hide and call, write, tweet, blog, bitch, moan, cry and wonder at the end of it all why you weren't taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteI hope they do protest this bigot.
ReplyDeleteTell the county legislator or city council person of your choice that if money for this is not recinded then you will tell the blogs about those same sex erotic services you performed on them in Penn Valley Park under the big Phallic symbol.
ReplyDeleteIs Todd's homophobic ranting considered hate speech? I wonder how his supporters will feel about congress gagging him? Will they find a way to avoid blaming Obama?
ReplyDeleteDa__ if you do da__ if you don't. When the black community doesn't do anything to improve itself you bi_ch when they invite people who appeal to them and actually might make an impression on someone whose out gangbanging and not supporting their kids, you bi_ch. He is just preaching what the Bible says. Yes it actually says homosexuality (men with men, women leaving the natural use of, etc. is a sin). Now you can twist words to say this race is superior or whatever but there is nothing in there that straight out says all whites or people wiht brown skin or whatever are lowdown or whatever. Also there are many instances where prejudice was punished (Moses' sister was punished for disliking that Moses had married a woman of a different race). The New Testament also says there is no slave or free, male or female, greek or jew in Jesus. It didn't say no straight or gay or no difference between those who lie with same sex or don't.
ReplyDeleteThank you DW. Christians are not homophobic. We don't fear homosexuals. If anything many of them appear Biblephobic.
ReplyDeleteMy magical book says your magical book is full of sh_t.
ReplyDeleteIt's truly one of the ironies of history that blacks who were brought over as slaves and forced to adopted their masters' religion now become the oppressors using the same book to oppress others that was once used to justify slavery and segregation.
ReplyDeleteI remember during the '60s that my pro-segregationist grandfather claimed that blacks were supposed to be kept separate and inferior because they sprang from the son of Noah who was cursed with servitude. That was a bogus interpretation of the Bible ... and so is the supposed condemnation of gays in the Bible. It's just someone's interpretation of what thousands of years of translations may mean.
Let's hope some of these black pulpit pimps begin to educate themselves about the Bible. Otherwise they'd be better off going back to worshiping sticks and mud and forest spirits.
Tony - Thanks for this story. A few significant points to add here:
ReplyDeleteFirst, it's not just the GLBT community that's upset. Members of the African-American community are upset, members of the faith community are upset. I'm upset - I'm a white, straight member of the KC faith community.
Second, this was a classic "bait & switch". The Life Changers conference is a great idea (in theory). I don't believe organizers & sponsors knew in advance (Fox, the City, etc) what this guy was about, that he would bring this kind of divisive message to our city. Fox, the City, and other sponsors are just as much victims here as the GLBT community. This is an underhanded right-wing tactic as a way to sneak in guys like this, under a secular banner.
Third, this really is BAD for the city and its communities. This kind of message victimizes the African-American community even further. Its completely inappropriate to take a message of shame and hatred to an oppressed part of the community. It hurts us all. What is needed are uplifting messages, with hope, acceptance, and tools for encouraging diversity. This preacher's message is violent, and encourages intolerance & division.
I know several faith communities & African-American communities who are upset over this, and stand with the GLBT people who oppose this guy.
I know many people are skeptical of "Fox News Corporation", but I strongly believe that our local Fox 4 KC knew nothing about this in advance, and would not knowingly endorse or sponsor hate speech.
It is not too late to find a replacement speaker. I would strongly encourage the sponsors to help the organizing committee find another speaker.
Religion = world's greatest source of evil
ReplyDeleteTo "Da if you do and da if you don’t:"
ReplyDeleteThanks for weighing in. You've hit my comment’s second point from last night.
This isn't just a gay and lesbian civil rights issue. Just as important, it's also a separation of church and state/freedom of religion issue.
We all have a constitutional right to "exercise" the religious beliefs we want.
At the same time, the government is constitutionally barred from doing anything to “establish” a religion. That includes supporting or appearing to support a religious belief, for example, homosexuality is wrong because the Christian Bible says so.
A city's sponsoring and apparently funding an event featuring a Bible-based view crosses the Constitution's line.
It’s fine for the City to sponsor and fund an event where a minister can express whatever political position he or she wants. But if the political position is based on a religious belief, it’s still religion and the City can't appear to support it with our tax dollars and its support.
Cloaking a religious belief as a political position is nothing more than dressing it in "the Emperor’s new clothes." Religion is religion. We each get to make our own choices, not the government.
Marcion - Well put.
ReplyDeleteSuccess!
ReplyDeleteAccording to The Star's website the city has agreed to pull its funding from the conference.
Thank you, city council!
For what it's worth, the conference organizers were apparently not very upfront about the way the conference would be organized. Not very Christian of them, was it?
Has Channel 4 dropped their sponsorship?
ReplyDeleteJackson County has not but the City has.
ReplyDeletefirst of all prophet todd hall is definitlya real prophet man of od i have heard him numerous times and seen him prophecy to people ad it came to pass i dont understand why people get so all in they feelings when it come to gay stuff thats the bible yes i agree those people have rules that dont have nothing to do with spiritual are religion they just looking at they aint given no money for it but i will say this people should not be putting they mouth on this man because of how he preach or he preached a sermon about homos REAL MEN THAT AINT GAY OR A HOMO WILL BE AGAINST IT THE ONLY PEOPLE I CAN REALLY SEE BEING OFFENDED IS PEOPLE THAT MAY BE GAY THEMSELEVES BECAUSE IF YOU GET THAT OFFENDED ABOUT WHATS IN THE BIBLE THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM i think people is missing the hole point its not the point that he is a prophet that preach against homosexual the issue of all this is the people dont want to fund the money for religion purposes and the things that he may preach while he is in he pulpit its not no need to talk about him he is far from gay he is a real man and a real prophet and i have watch him shut down churches across the country prophecying and calling people name out and telling them what God said and people shout say its true and he is telling the truth..lets not miss the point bishop tolbert the one seems like not keeping it real on this note!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is surprising that Hall, a member of a long-persecuted minority, harbors animosity toward another such group. One would think he would demonstrate greater understanding and tolerance, and be more inclined to judge other human beings on, as Dr. King said, "the content of their character." I don't know if the word "homophobic" necessarily applies to Hall, as a phobia is a mental illness and just because one does not approve of the gay lifestyle does not mean he or she is suffering from a psychological affliction. However, the sad fact is that a large segment of society still regards gay men and women as second-class citizens - or worse. That is the salient point of my recently released biographical novel, Broken Saint. It is based on my forty-year friendship with a gay man, and chronicles his internal and external struggles as he battles for acceptance (of himself and by others). More information on the book is available at www.eloquentbooks.com/BrokenSaint.html.
