TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KCPD SOON TO BE CITED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR FAILURE IN MINORITY HIRING PRACTICES!!!



Word is that the lackluster minority employment practices of The Kansas City Police Department will soon be reprimanded by The Department of Justice.

First of all, for TKC friends, it's important to note just a bit of background of how I came upon this information . . . KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS at City Hall have been buzzing about this since yesterday and they're a little concerned that the City's Legal Department is going to sweep it under the table. I then confirmed that talk with a couple of the rank and file cops at the KCPD who will talk to me off the record and noted that the Department has received notice of their poor numbers for quite awhile. I'm clarifying this because I want readers to know that this information came from sources that are good enough to talk to TKC and have been cultivated through the hard work of this blog.

TKC hears that the problem that the DOJ in D.C. will address . . .

THE KCPD ISN'T RECRUITING ENOUGH MINORITIES, THEY ARE NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THIS TOWN'S POPULATION IN THEIR HIRING PRACTICES AND MINORITIES WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT ARE NOT BEING PROMOTED!!!


To be fair, TKC previously reported some setbacks for the KCPD which have demonstrated that the Department was trying to make an effort with minority hiring only to be thwarted by budget cuts.

However, in reporting that I did for Dos Mundos on The Latino Police Officers Association, there were several Latino Officers who did not feel the Administration was supportive of efforts to empower minority officers who are the best spokespeople for the Department in Kansas City's Diverse Communities.

Like it or not . . . DIVERSITY IS IMPORTANT and maybe part of Kansas City's incredibly high murder rate is affected by the lack of minority hiring of African-Americans and Latinos which might foster an overall perception that the KCPD isn't really involved in those communities.

Undoubtedly, this is an important issue . . . And AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS are responsible for bringing it to light first.

  3. You have to have qualified minorities that actually want to work there before they can be hired. Maybe the picture related to this story should've been the two "gentlemen" with their "Stop Snitching" shirts on. That would've been more apropos then an A-Bomb

    KCPD is full of liars and thieves, but maybe that's the way it is all across the USA.

  13. typically, in situations like this, it isn't so much the actual number of females of minorities that are hired, but that there is a huge failure to make "good faith" efforts to recruit from the community in which you do business.

    they consider outreach efforts, recruiting, assessments/tests, the selection process. govt agencies look at how many minorities comprise the candidate pool when a job posts / how many advance in the hiring process to an interview / how many are actually hired. obviously, if they find that minorities don't apply (because of poor recruiting efforts) or don't advance in the process - they can identify disparate impact.

    in a city as diverse as KC, this is a giant failure on the part of their HR staff. gee, it's almost like you'd have to make deliberate efforts to exclude certain classes of people to screw this up to the point of getting cited. hmmm.

    if the city paid decently, i'd love to go recruit uniformed officers - yum. ;)

    Now will you stop kissing King Corwin's ass ? The guy is dishonest and finally the media is starting to peal all the fake facade. Yes budget cuts, but as of yet he has changed a thing. He got caught hiring cars. He has THREE lobbyists on his payroll, etc, etc

  20. Missouri has a state statue that requires the KCMOPD to hire only US Citizens. One way around that would be to update the state statue and policy. Other states policy do not restrict on US Citizenship, they are allowed to hire US Residents. It can take years to become a citizen. California is one of the states that permit Legal Permanent Residents to become law enforcement officers. You can even serve in the US Military if you are a US Resident. Missouri Revised Statutes, Chapter 84, Police Departments in St. Louis and Kansas City, Section 84.120.

  21. And that's your excuse? There's a fucking ton of qualified citizens. Why do we need to hire yet more immigrants to do jobs that people who are naturalized citizens or born here would like to do?

    This country is the most porous fucking country in the world with respect to immigration. We don't need to give away the farm here. Other countries don't have half the shit we have for immigrants.

    But for fuck's sake. Let's keep jobs for Americans.
