The Star substitutes scooters for news

Never mind truisms related to scooters and fat chicks . . . What's more important is that scooter sales are making front page news today. I can't imagine a story related to scooters makes much difference in the lives of anyone but the most privileged hipsters and their parents . . . Nevertheless, The Star has promised more local coverage and a greater commitment to "community journalism" (whatever that means) but today they're serving up scooter news as more layoffs are quickly approaching and the economic outlook for the dead tree industry isn't just puttering along . . . It's crashing and burning.

The image comes courtesy of KICKASS TKC READER smart enough to see the writing on the wall and the fact that the business model for the daily newspaper is dead. As for the elitists running The Star and touting their role as information gatekeeper . . . Their demise couldn't come quickly enough if their plan for survival was to push scooter stories in order to save their dying institution.

  1. And yesterday what was the Star researching and reporting on? The Iraq War. Do you think they'd travel the several blocks, at any time in the last year, and do a really good, hard-hitting report on how shitty the residential market is all over this city--from One Park Place to the Plaza--and tell how many buildings are virtually empty? Like One Park Place, like Bob Bernstein's Carlton House, etc., etc? Hell no. They don't want to upset anyone in the business community. Iraq? Yeah. Kansas City? Hell no.

In the meantime, go to www.kcphotogblog.blogspot.com to see pictures from and of Loose Park, Chubby's, etc.

  4. Completely misleading chart-the units are different by a factor of 1000. Any statistician would tell you this is meaningless.

  5. It used to take me 90 minutes to read through the Sunday Star. Now it takes maybe 15.

It's sad how the whole thing has gone downhill.
