The Kansas City Star: Giving it away

I normally don't look at my mail because it's all bills that I can't pay . . . But an interesting piece of junk mail turned up next to a collection notice from the good people at Juggs Magazine.

Featured above is a tiny post card like mailer from The Kansas City Star that proves quite a few things:

  • They're screwing their current subscribers with bargain basement deals that make it useless to hold onto a longtime subscriptions.

  • At these rock bottom prices, they're OBVIOUSLY, CLEARLY, UNDOUBTEDLY taking a HUGE loss on delivery which should move the three days a week sometime soon.

  • Just like everyone else peddling overstocked merchandise that nobody wants, they're desperate and ready to make a deal.

Sadly, the smug, arrogant and completely naive attitude of most of the "journalists" (hehe) working for The Star doesn't reflect the dire straits of their employer.

So, if I can contribute anything to this conversation . . . I hope that local newsies begin to regard themselves as cheaply as their floundering corporate benefactor and maybe that way TKC can have a shot with writers soon moving to PR work in a more formal capacity.
