Here's a nice bit of gossip that has floated my way recently, I've had enough time to check it out and it seems "credible" enough for this dump of a blog. If it turns out to be true, I'll trumpet my KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS as if it was whispered from by voices from the heavens . . . If not, I'll probably just continue to post model/actress skanks in bikini pics. I've never found debates about so-called journalistic ethics very interesting because it's all akin to similar controversies over the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.
EVERYONE HAS AN AGENDA!!!
It's something that grown-ups understand and "journalists" pretend to ignore in a vain attempt to promote ideological fantasies like objectivity or their role as the 4th estate.
The history of big city newspapers is that they've been on the take for political parties and most of their content represents nothing more than advocacy work for their financial interests.
There's an illusion that this has changed. Recent history suggests otherwise.
The point here is that the "Paper of Record" in Kansas City doesn't represent any of those silly college Freshman ideas about the role of journalism in a society. It's just another fallible and somewhat failing local business struggling to change with the times. People shouldn't feel any more obligation to keep the opinions of the daily paper in circulation than they do to frequent the latest crappy restaurant or bar that's about to close. It's not Democracy or public service . . . It's just a business.
And business is bad for the newspaper industry right now.
And here's my EXCLUSIVE part of this story . . .
WORD IS THE KANSAS CITY STAR'S SWEET NEW GLASS BUILDING WILL BE HOSTING SOME NEW TENANTS AND MAY BE PARTIALLY SOLD OFF IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!!
The details are sketchy at this point but on the bright side a lot of local newsies seem to agree that the layoffs are done for the time being. Sadly, the last big asset for the Star needs to produce more revenue than the tired liberal ranting of Mary Sanchez.
So look for new faces in The Star building as (following a pattern of other publications) the newspaper's real estate becomes infinitely more valuable than content they produce.
To celebrate The Star's demise and dance on their grave just a bit I'm offering a quick playlist of my favorite songs related to the metaphorical broken glass and dreary windows of The Star's building that's at least partially on the chopping block.
Check it:
Meanwhile, the Kansas City's blogging scene gets bigger every day despite the fact that its equally unprofitable!!! Natch. The Internets has brought forth the idea that nobody has a monopoly on information and the outdated protestations over The Star's superior ethics or their silly distribution model is becoming a thing of the past.
As always, thank you for reading. Have a safe and fun weekend.
Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteAnd the butler buildings at the Nelson have leaky roofs.
ReplyDeletePlastic buckets in the hallways of a 70 million dollar building.
I swear this town could fuck up a ham sandwich.
too bad they didn't make THIS into the new Symphony Building... it would have been a lot cheaper :)
ReplyDeleteI like how, immediately after talking about ethics not mattering, you seal a unicorns/leprechauns joke from the Office. The internet's awesome. Everyone steals from everyone so no one has to be any good.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that DeeAnn will be hitting the streets?
ReplyDeleteLooking for a job.
Tony seal a lot of stuff.
ReplyDeleteI wish my newspaper had more ass photos.
ReplyDeleteI imagine the acoustics aren't so good in the glass building. My dau who's an arch engineer says its a hideous building design that is completely out of place in Kansas City so close to downtown. Ugly, ugly.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you find Wikipedia as a good link source to folks who might like to read more. I use it a lot.
Victor Callahan was right. The Star should have never received a public subsidy through TIF.
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteThe Star isn't going anywhere, Chuckles, so get over yourself. It'll be around long after Tony's Kansas City libels someone one time too many.
ReplyDeleteLook pal. It's well after midnight now...and there's no SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST.
ReplyDeleteJust puttin that on the record!
Wishful thinking, the Star will continue to put out its liberal drivel with fewer people caring every day.
ReplyDeleteOK Tony that's old news about a month old. Let's have it who is going to buy the building? I know The Wall Street Journal is coming to town. New news Tony not the old stuff.
ReplyDeleteThere is your new acquarium.
ReplyDeleteThe KC Star reported in a story about a month ago it was looking to sell the "print pavilion." This doesn't mean it is selling its printing presses. Wonder when KC Star will question itself on whether it still qualifies for a tax abatement after the sale? Oh forgot Yael, you did not get 100 percent. What was it? You have not ever said. Oh, and that money could have gone to fix the very KCMO public infrastructure needing repairs, right Yael?
ReplyDeleteAt least perhaps this will prompt them to take off the ugly "Kansas City Star" white decal in the front of the building. As if we need the decal to tell us what the building is.
ReplyDeleteThe STar will LIVE FOREVER!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSCREW YOU TONY!!!!!!!!!
LONG LIVE THE SATR!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it, that whenever anonymous commenters are upset that Tony reports something that might have been previously broadcast or published there is no information - not even a link - to back up their claim? This might be due to the dreadful archival policies of these sources which Tony is obviously taking advantage. Good work TKC, maybe they will keep their stories online longer in order to prove their own reporting rather than just relying of their frustrated writers anonymously.
