Whispering KC Dems don't care for Mayor

Last night there was a huge shin-dig in Kansas City for a Missouri politico who wants to be Governor. That wasn't the real story . . . I've received at least three e-mails this morning regarding chatter at the party. Turns out that Kansas City's Democrat contingent isn't too impressed with this town's new Mayor . . . In any other city that's not a big deal but the fact that dissatisfaction with the mayor is the number one topic of discussion among the Democrat elites in this town doesn't bode too well for the Funkhouser Administration in a city that's so overwhelmingly run by the donkeys. In the coming months it will be interesting to see if Mayor Funky can keep his fiscally conservative/social liberal credentials intact if his decisions continue to be so divisive . . . The main concern from the Dems: The suspicion that Funkhouser has jumped ship ala Joe Lieberman (OR so my Republican readers can relate . . . The same way that Schwarzenegger now seems to be a RINO).

Really, to hear it from these folks the guy is unbelievably close to losing any kind of support from Kansas City Democrat leadership and that could leave him with virtually no political muscle in this town . . . Already it's obvious that Funkhouser is not Richard Berkley, the most rare Republican standout this town has ever seen and probably one of the best consensus makers in recent Kansas City political history . . . The talk among Dems is that Funkhouser is just one mistake away from a full-on move for a recall and definitely a sense that Mayor Funky has betrayed some of that Midtown, liberal, diverse pose that he struck during the election in order to back his Northland constituency that skews conservative and ultimately may have more in common with St. Joseph and rural Missouri.

There's no telling how much credibility this kind of bold talk has . . . But is was definitely interesting to hear . . . Even if a great majority of it was encouraged by liberal cocktail consumption.

I can't think of a better reason to support Funkhouser.

  2. Tony:

I was someone who was at the even t for Nixon last night (I shall remain anonymous), and your info is dead on. The real opinion leaders in the local party are for the first time beginning to question Funk. Surprising to me was the high degree of distate many had for his recent actions. You are right, if Funk loses that crew, he is a one-termer.

  3. I am a very conservative Democrat, and the decision making of this Mayor is a wake up call. Even my Republican friends are in agreement. They are also bothered by rumors spreading about the mayor constantly referring to his wife for advise during business meetings.

  4. This post should be titled: "Someone invited Rita to a cocktail party".

    Come back to reality.

  5. Better yet..For being such a dumbass it should be titled

This is interesting, considering the mayoral race is supposed to be non-partisan, and the additional fact that most of the "KCMO demobrats" backed the horse that lost in that race.

Go ahead and try a recall. You'll draw less votes than Rita's thirty suppoprters in her anti-Semler tantrum.

Let's encourage him to have any and all illegals detained for criminal activity, including DUI's and other traffic violations involving property or injury, bound over for deportation. That should get Rita's and Tony's "chones" wedged up in a bunch. Did you guys know that an illegal can commit a felony and still negotiate "diversion". It is time that the judges become appraised of the immigration status of delinquents so they can decide wether or not they want to aid and abet an ongoing criminal sdheme.

A sign of how clumsily the proto-socialist-aztec-plutocrats overplayed their hand is how quickly they've tried to make it recede into the background. Maybe there is a reason why Ugly Bethy beat Rita for that seat...

When it gets down to it theirs are two warring tribes that only join to attack a perceived soiopolitical enemy of their political power.

  7. I was at the Nixon deal last night too T and you're putting it mildly. There was almost a call for the guy's head. Even Mayor Kay at her lowest levels never had that kind of negative reaction among these same people.

Make no mistake the Democrats in this town has access to a lot of funds and I wouldn't be surprised if they took their money somewhere else if Mark keeps up this dismal pace.

  8. Hey Legal Hispanic. I guess Tony should be happy that you're spamming his comments now instead of sticking with The Star.

  9. Recalling Funky is not going to happen. The law states that you must have, "objective reasons which reasonable people, regardless of their political persuasion, could agree would render any officials performance ineffective, which must be an act of misfeasance, the improper performance of some act which may lawfully be done, or malfeasance, the commission of some act wholly beyond the officials authority, or nonfeasance, the failure to perform a required duty."

You might not like Funkhouser, but he has not performed any acts of misfeasance, malfeasance, or nonfeasance. As such, talk of a recall is little more than blogger masturbation.

  10. Ryan, you are wrong. All it takes is 20% of the previous general election to sign the petition for recall, and the game is on.

  11. Read the laws, chief. Anyone who tried to recall the mayor without adequate proof of "malfeasance, misfeasance, or nonfeasance" would be subject to prosecution for filing a false affidavit.

  12. Correction, I said, "would be subject," where I should have said, "may be subject."

  13. It has been a matter of months, what exactly has he screwed up? What exactly has he done right?

I think Tony is P-whipped by his momma and is making up stories...

    fuck politics

  14. I was at the event last night and heard chatter from a few folks, but it was nowhere near the talk of the event. What was the talk of the event is how good of a Governor Jay Nixon will be. Go Jay!

  15. I would say that the fact that he hasn't begun to adddress the sales tax renewal is non-feasance.
The rest of the council is not stupid. They basically censured him over the Semler appointment.
Legal H is has a lot of self hate. I wonder if he's a cutter too.
People need to realize that Funkhouser won by about 840 votes and I bet I can find 840 people who regret ever voting for him. He has no support and he still claims to have a mandate. Reminds me of GW.
And by the way, I voted for him. I guess now I know how the people that voted for Clay's crazy light rail initiative feel.

  16. Exactly 8:12pm & Ryan you are wrong, the anon poster that mentioned the 20% signatures is accurate. State statute changes at the city and county level.

4:48pm I got to see Jay speak at an event and thought that he was great. I can't wait to see him elected!

  17. This is so incredily absurd. All of these anonymous pundit wannabes.

Do you think that your "anonymity" makes readers think you are a "real insider" whose identity must be protected and lends some credence to your fabricated spin, silly gossip and innuendo?

    What a fucking circle jerk!

You got something you want the mayor to hear? Schedule a fucking appointment and tell him to his face.

You an insider? You got clout? Go use it!

But stop this anonymous shit. Pussies.

Grow some balls or shut the fuck up.

GOD I'm so glad I don't live in the city anymore.

VIVA WHITE FLIGHT! God Bless Suburban Sprawl!

Beats the fuck out of this chickenshit, whiney, backstabbing, Monday morning quarterbacking, pretentious, opinionated, Machiavellian, childish crap.

I would suggest that if any of you had any political standing or had a voice that anyone respected, you would be expressing your opinions in an official capacity where you could actually make a difference instead of blowing a lot of hot air in the blogosphere.

    What a waste of bandwidth.

  18. I was at the Nixon event. Because I'm a powerful person. A mover and a shaker. But I can't divulge my identity because I'm kinda like a Super Hero and have to keep that stuff secret.

But, I'll tell you what I heard.

I heard that Mayor Funkhouser wants to feed all of the rich people to the poor people and let the poor people move into the rich people's houses. He actually has a plan to make this happen. I swear to God.

I also heard (at the Nixon event that I was invited to because I am so important) that he sometimes listens to his wife! WHAT THE FUCK?!? I think we can all agree that that is a slippery slope that none of us wants to approach! Nothing good can come from that, right? Am I right?

All of us who attended the Nixon event and whispered in corners over expensive cocktails agree that Funk is not "our kind" and must be opposed.

  19. Actually I was at the Nixon event and everyone seemed really focused on Jay's campaign and 2008. They are doing a great job!

I'm flattered that you've taken the time to "google" any previous comments. I don't believe in hatred, and as to mentality, I'm too busy to have any long-term-agendas in this or any other matter beyond paying bills.

As to my use of imagery and hyperbole, it got you to chime in, so my purpose in using it has been fulfilled.

I believe that the fact that Funhouser eked out a victory by such a narrow margin may be at the center of all the relatively inane controversy. The fact is that in the mayoral elections, there was no single compelling candidate, and the treatment being meted out to the present mayor will do nothing but discourage candidateds from outside the establishment to vie for the position.

You voted the guy in, live with it. There will be an election soon enough.

Ps: Am I a cutter? Only when it comes to ditching (cutting) class. Other than that, I don't endorse blodshed of any type.

I don't have "spamming" among my capabilities, nor am I bookmarking or promoting anything of mine or that benefits me. I just am not that savvy on internet matters. One of the reasons I recently started posting here, and have stopped on some other blog, is that Tony does not appear to censure while other blogs may appeer to be echo chambers of monotone hive mentality..

Further thought on Funkhouser's election; the fact that he came from behind in the polls only points out that his election may have been more the product of a rejection of one or more of the other candidate's positions and was thus somewhat of a victory by default. That poslitical see-saw by the voters pretty much ensures that Funhouser will not be able consistently please this contingent of reluctant voters who may not have so much voted for him, but against "the other guy" and are not supportive of his agenda. Hd the other guy won, he probably would be facing a similar situation, albeit on other isssues and decisions.
