HUGE cloud of smoke over Kansas City

I'm checking for a link to see what happened but I pulled over to take a photo of this gigantic looking mushroom cloud looking thing as soon as I could. Heard a ton of sirens headed to the scene. A few more photos coming . . . Anybody know what's up?

UPDATE: Here's the link I needed . . . Explosion Reported In Northeast Bottoms

It looks pretty huge and the smoke is sure to cover the city. Hope it's not toxic but the only thing anyone has reported is that it's coming from a building at Nicholson and Garland avenues. You might want to check the local news station for more info. I'll be wearing my helmet in my mom's basement for extra protection.

Rock on.

UPDATE: Channel 9 says it's a Chem Central plant that blew up and as of yet there is no Haz Mat report regarding how much of a threat the smoke (WHICH IS NOW REACHING AS FAR AS MIDTOWN) presents but I'm sure it's probably pretty horrible. Channel 9 is reporting that they're evacuating everybody within a mile of the thing and they're evacuating KCMO public schools in the area.

Alternate Headline inspired by Hot Ass (and obviously very capable during this breaking story) Kelly Eckerman:

Chemical Cloud over Kansas City

UPDATE: Paseo Bridge SHUT DOWN

UPDATE: Unidentified shit falling out of the sky. EPA is on the case but no one has said anything about the environmental effect or how quickly all of this may or may not give us cancer. Also, the news coverage is starting to repeat itself and now it's the weather skank's and dude's turn to take it over . . . They're talking about wind.

As The D noted Our fate rests in the hands of Katie Horner.

We're fucked.

Take a look at your favorite news cast for more info . . . Coverage of these kind of disasters are where journalism careers are made . . . I believe Don Henley said something about relaying bad news with a "gleam in her eye" or some such.

Note: I literally just heard somebody on the TV news say "The sky is falling!"

Ugh.

Comments

  1. KSHB is saying that there was a series of explosions just after 2 at Chem-Tech in the east bottoms. Some evacuations apparently, but don't know how wide-spread.
