Okay, here's yet another reason why you shouldn't take me too seriously.
Previously, I had expressed some tacit support for Kansas City Councilwoman Saundra McFadden-Weaver because she is the ONLY person on the Council to express concern about minority hiring in downtown construction projects and I liked her practice of visiting almost every homicide scene in her district.
However, I was completely wrong about her given that $365,000 has recently been discovered flowing through her bank account. The money in her account was supposedly to fight off her earlier recall battle but the funds were not reported on campaign finance disclosures, which is reportedly a potential violation of state campaign-finance laws. Here are more details from The Star:
The flow of money into and out of her account in early 2005 came to light after McFadden-Weaver submitted three years of bank statements to the city's ethics commission, which is investigating her purchase later in 2005 of a Lee's Summit home. McFadden-Weaver obtained two loans totaling $400,000 to buy the home.Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that she's a minister and then I don't know what other job she holds down but I'm SURE that she's not a brain surgeon in her spare time which would be the only way to explain that kind of bank.
She submitted the bank statements to prove she had remained a resident of the 3rd District. The statements, she said, showed utility payments on a home in the district.
The city's Municipal Employees Ethics Commission has not voted to expand its investigation of McFadden-Weaver into the large deposits and spending in early 2005.
Sorry, I know I posted this earlier in the week but I don't mind repeating myself:
Frankly, I have no idea what she does for a living but the prospect of that kind of cash flowing through the hands of a local politico in this cowtown just makes me cringe. The Ethics Commission is slated to vote again on whether this subject requires further investigation and it's clear that this vote will have a greater impact on the course of politics in this town than any other measure the Council has recently examined.
